Jean

"In addition to its hotel and café, the Frankenbach family also runs Jean in this former wine bar. After working in renowned establishments such as Ikarus in Salzburg, Johannes Frankenbach (the third generation of the family) has been at the helm here since 2012. Even the name "Jean" (a French equivalent of Johannes) is a nod to his love of France, which is as much a part of his ingredient-led, Mediterranean-influenced cuisine as is his knack for creating fine aromas and flavour contrasts. This is accompanied by judicious and fairly priced wine pairings. The setting is also charming: half-height wooden panelling, elegant table settings, old photos... while outside is the pretty plane tree courtyard. The lady of the house waits on diners in a pleasingly friendly and down-to-earth fashion." - Michelin Inspector

Germany's least expensive Michelin-starred restaurants

"Four-course set menu, served on Sundays – €79. In addition to its hotel and café, the Frankenbach family runs this restaurant in a former wine bar, where third-generation chef Johannes Frankenbach—who earned his stripes at renowned establishments such as Ikarus in Salzburg—leads a kitchen whose German- and French-inspired cuisine and the very name “Jean” reflect his love of France; wine connoisseurs, including fans of Bordeaux and Burgundy, will find plenty to enjoy." - Le Guide MICHELIN

What an amazing experience at this lovely, intimate restaurant. My dining partner ordered the gourmet set menu with 5 courses and I ordered the seasonal set menu with 5 courses. Each dish was finally balanced, beautifully plated, and extremely delicious. I also ordered the wine pairing, which included a nice variety of local Rheingau wines. During the summer, the seating is outside on a beautiful patio covered by a canopy of trees. When we were there, the restaurant only seated about 10 tables and the service and quality of food was clearly tailored to that intimate audience. Everyone spoke plenty of English to explain the dishes and the wine to our understanding. Overall, a wonderful experience. Between the food and wine (and aperitif), we spent about €160 each.

We had set menu with wine pairing. From we came to we went, the service was excellent. Did not have to ask for things, it just happened accordingly. The food was excellent, and all dishes were well balanced and just super. Thank you for a great experience

Extraordinary experience, we went there in summer for a special occasion. The decoration the atmosphere was all outstanding. However don't expect an air conditioning system the solution is to sit outside in the shadows of remarkable trees and a lovely terrace. The food was outstanding and the chef also appeared in the end. The wine pairing was very solid and all came from the Rhein region 👌. Highly recommend

This is a Michelin 🌟 restaurant We had the pleasure of experiencing while We were in Germany They offer delicious French cuisine. Very fine dinning offering a gourmet menu. The plating was on point for every dish. Our server spoke eloquently about every dish and the wine accompaniment. Our food was delicious and We also got to met the chef himself.

Jean, Eltville » My (last) visit: Dec 2023 » Total score: 4.7/5 – very good » The gourmet restaurant completely fulfilled my very high expectations: Very good food at a constantly high level in an almost exclusively classic style (bar the dessert, which I would describe as modern). Delicious French cuisine. Hospitable pleasant dining experience. It is a pleasant step back into a bygone era of elegant, traditional dining untainted by trendiness. Prices are high, but justified by quality and worthy of a special occasion.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant in Eltville out of the way from everything. Though small, the experience has a lot of punch from the quality and depth of the offerings. The service and local wine pairings were all done with the customer in mind, and I left feeling like I got the 1-star experience. So glad I finally made it here and tried the tasting menu. Great value all around!
