"The name "Käfer" has become synonymous with Munich’s restaurant scene. The presence of a delicatessen under the same roof as this cosy restaurant guarantees the top-class ingredients, used to make its popular classics. There are also a number of stylish function rooms for special occasions." - Michelin Inspector

We had the pleasure of visiting Käfer Schänke as a group during the Champions League match, and it was absolutely perfect! The service was outstanding and incredibly attentive - we felt taken care of from start to finish. The food was top-notch, with exceptional quality and flavors that were simply unforgettable. A special shoutout to Lena Streibl, whose planning and organization couldn’t have been better. She was always focused on our needs, handled all requests with ease and even managed last-minute changes with a friendly and professional attitude. We’ll definitely be back – an amazing experience all around!

I had the highest recommendations from my friends and that's why I came to this restaurant. Overall, everything was fine and the restaurant itself is very beautiful, but I ordered beef a la Rossini and there was no foie gras. I was surprised and asked the waiter if this is how it should be according to the recipe? To which the waiter went to ask the kitchen and returned with the answer that he apologizes, but they forgot to put it. And asked if they should bring it to me separately? They brought it separately, but the essence of the dish disappeared, although separately both the meat and foie gras were good, but still I went to the restaurant for the flavor combinations. For a fairly expensive restaurant, just good products are not enough.

A cozy restaurant with excellent service, cuisine, and interior design. On the first floor, there is a shop where you can buy Christmas souvenirs. The traditional duck was superb! I have only the best memories of this restaurant.

Our lunch experience at Käfer restaurant didn’t satisfy me and my friends. At first , everything was amazing and on time. My friend that lives in Munich was at that place several times. It is an elegant and luxury place where you expect the same level of service. I ordered the white truffle pasta (56€ ). When the dish was at the table I tried it and unfortunately the cook didn’t do it in a correct way. It was full of milk cream and there was not even a taste of the right Italian pasta. It was also so sweet, that sound strange but unfortunately it was like that. When I asked the waiter to take it back , that waiter didn’t apologize and say anything. When we asked for a bill, the price of a pasta was there and we had a small not a nice discussion with our waiter K. that a bit laughed at us by saying “ everybody like it , why don’t you” - so not in a respectful way. Definitely this kind of people that don’t have patience and respect to the guests shouldn’t work in hospitality business. So at the end we asked for a manager and we clearly explained our position but the fun thing that when he brought a new bill we saw just a price of the truffle itself ( 28€). I have never seen this in the restaurant business and in such a qualified as we thought restaurant. So I stayed hungry and upset after coming to Käfer restaurant.

You made my mother's birthday very special. Thank you so much! The food was amazing and our server (I'm so sorry, I forgot his name, I'm terrible with names but) was the best! My mother is so picky (so am I) and he made sure everything was perfect for us. Thank you, again.

My friends and I booked a private room for a pre-fixed dinner and had the best time. The food and wine were absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding. Our server let us take our time between courses and let us hang around to have drinks after dinner. He was very attentive, especially with making sure our wine glasses were full. They also gave us a speaker and allowed us to play whatever music we wanted, which made the evening a blast. It was a perfect mix of fine dining and fun. If we ever return to Munich, we will definitely be back!

Exceptional restaurant. The food and wine is high quality and the ambiance is special. Historical restaurant that has been here for a long time in Munich.

We had the pleasure of dining at Käfer Schänke with an international group of guests for the second time, and once again, it was a fantastic experience. Käfer Schänke is not just a restaurant; it’s a place where you truly experience Bavarian hospitality at its best. From the elegant decor to the excellent food and attentive service – everything was perfect. Our guests were captivated by the charming atmosphere, and the kitchen team once again delivered at the highest level. A special mention goes to the team for accommodating our requests with patience and professionalism, making sure we felt completely at home.

Yelp
We stayed in Munich for a week and Kafer Schanke was - by far - our most favorite dining experience! The food, the service, the setting...everything was amazing! We went with a group of six and our waiter, William, handled our orders, including food allergies and vegan options, with such ease and precision. We tried a smattering of nearly everything...caprese salad, schnitzel (the best!), pasta, sautéed vegetables, French fries, carpaccio and more. Everyone raved over the freshness and quality of our selections! There's a large dining room, but also cozy private rooms if you have a larger party. This is a spot that would be ideal for business meals, date nights and group meals. There's a delicatessen on the first floor and a gift shop on the second. The restaurant itself is on the third floor, which we accessed via a beautiful staircase. I highly, highly recommend this restaurant as a must-see if you're in Munich! For reference, it's less than a mile from the English Garden.

Yelp
We had such a poor experience, I am hoping to prevent others from wasting their time and money. The waitstaff ignored us and were slow to take our order and allow us to close out. I wouldn't recommend coming here.

Yelp
Still one of the best places in Munich Been coming here for the past 12 + years and it never disappoints! A Käfer store is located in the sane building bellow the restaurant and it boasts a variety of delicacies, wine, bread, cheese and sweets. A must visit while in Munich, Germany.

Yelp
Oh my God.... YES!! The restaurant is beautiful, elegant and each room has. Different decor, very beautiful. Not a tourist place. Rather a place where wealthy people from Munich eat. And they have a store that is unbelievable, all food and gifts. A very ni e experience, I highly recommend it.

Yelp
This restaurant is a shame. The service is bad and arrogant. They do not follow the current hygiene rules and do not wär the masks. The food is below average and ridiculous overpriced. When it comes to the check, they try to cheat you so be careful and double check it. Very disappointed. Rip off!

Yelp
I struggled to rate this place and thought about it for while and, decided that, the maximum I would give this place is 2.5 stars. Here is my view of the place: Ambience - 4 stars Service - 3 stars Food - 2.5 stars Value for money - 1 star Wow factor - 1 star We were invited to go here by some friends, who had a wonderful experience here, sometime ago and, we all concluded after tonight that, we would not go back here again. I had reasonably high expectations and, I was disappointed to say the least. The ambience here is nice and there is a big open kitchen in the middle. We were so hot by the end of the evening, due to our proximity to the open kitchen. They have a few private rooms for group dining and they looked really nice. All in all, a fairly big place. We were seated very close to a ledge and in a gangway, slightly inconvenient if you ask me. When I made the booking I advised them that we had one vegetarian in our group and, that went totally unnoticed. If you are a vegetarian don't bother going here as, the choice is almost non existent. How a restaurant in today's day and age survives without any decent vegetarian option is beyond me. They had a salad which had ham, a beetroot starter and that was it. If you are a proper vegetarian you almost have no choice here. This is one of those places to be seen rather than, enjoy great food. Had it not been for the bread, we would have left feeling hungry after three courses. The oysters I had was good but not worth the money. The monk fish main that was minimum two person order, looked great when it came out but was overcooked and lacked taste. The sides were also pretty tasteless. The cheese course was nice but nothing to write home about. The coffee at the end was horrible and burnt. We ordered a vegetable side and, specifically asked for it without tomatoes. The dish arrived and all it had was two vegetables and you can guess what one of them was :-(( Unbelievable and the staff were just like, ya whatever. The staff, of which there was plenty, were very welcoming and started off well but as time went on they forgot things at least twice and brought us two wines which were not as advertised in their wine list. This is very poor for an expensive restaurant. I certainly don't intend to go back here. In a city with some great places, the prices here are higher than many great restaurants and, more than some Michelin starred restaurants. I am sure they will do just fine without my patronage. I certainly would not recommend this place to any friends or colleagues. It's highly overrated and overpriced for what it is, a cafe with a nice ambience. I have never hesitated to pay good money for great food and unfortunately tonight, I did.

Yelp
We have a grocery store in Ohio that I absolutely love and I have never been able to find another place that matches it. I think I have found its match. WOW is this place amazing. I probably could have spend hours in there looking at every little thing they have. If I lived in Munich, I would seriously spend all my money here. The ambiance here is amazing! Beautiful! The selection is top notch! I loved it!

Kim S.

Yelp
You can find just about anything you are looking for here (and many things you never knew you even wanted). Best not to make it a habit, but at least stop by and take a look around, taste some free samples if you time it right, and if not splurge on a beautiful and gleichzeitig totally delicious sweet, like a Petit Four or a truffle. If you need something a little more solid beforehand, their 'to go' dishes (meals, salads, etc) are not so expensive for the quality and taste. Considering your options of 'fast food' around town, its actually fairly reasonable in price (think Wiener schnitzel, fleischpflanzerl and tasty, better-than-average potato salads, etc). During the 'Wiesn' zeit, they make hand-decorated Oktoberfest hearts. I had a very cute one made for my niece - smaller (normal) size, for about 7€. I'm hoping it's one that will even be edible since its from Käfer:) It's always a treat just to take a look around the place, regardless of whether or not you buy anything. Afterall, it doesn't cost anything to look right?!

Yelp
Käfer is a well known catering company from Munich with deli's in Bavaria, as well as restaurants. They even have their own tent at the Oktoberfest where you may see celebrities. The Schänke is located at their head office in the Prinzregentenstraße. Setting is rustic elegant with some chic decor. The atmosphere is actually casual and comfortable, not stiff at all, which makes it very nice. Service is attentive and very friendly even when the place is packed. They have a nice wine list covering all parts of the world and budgets. You can even find some rarities and older vintages. Their menu is divided into 2 parts, the seasonal specialties and the classic dishes. Everything is well prepared in their open kitchen. Their terrine of duck liver was excellent, as well as their beef carpaccio Cipriani, thinly sliced and very tender. Their Wiener Schnitzel is excellent, I especially like the cranberries that accompanied it. The rib-eye from the lava stone was perfectly cooked to our liking and very tender. Their 2 courses duck from the oven is great, too. The biggest disappointment was the tagliarini with shaved white alba truffle on one occasion. The butter sauce was just watery, that I didn't expect from Käfer. We never made it to desserts as the portions are generous and we were already full after the main course. This place is expensive but good value for money. I have been here twice now and probably will not come back as there are many other choices in Munich.

Yelp
Wonderful gourmet market for anything you want to splurge for your kitchen. Terrific high quality food but be prepared to pull out your wallet. Staff are very friendly and solid English skills. If you are a ham lover their cold smoked ham is to die for. Grab some bread and 200 grams of it and go to town. They have a couple of downstairs seatings for causal ratings as well. Upstairs is a formal restaurant and while excellent €€€€. Everything is broken into sections, raw & cooked meats, fish, wine, pastries, cakes, chocolates, coffee or tea and the list goes on.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this restaurant because it was across the street from Hotel Munchen Palace, where my husband and I were staying. Little did we know that this is one of the best restaurants in Munich! We had: Starters: Watermelon and raspberry gazpacho, tomato salad Mains: Himalayan salt grill with turbot, salmon, and shrimp; lobster and cauliflower stew All amazing, especially the Himalayan salt grill concept...this is only available in August. Great service and lovely terrace seating...would go back again!

Yelp
While staying in Munich for vacation my partner and I were searching for a special place to have a romantic dinner before a concert at the Prinzregententheater. When we saw a fabulously dressed woman walk out of the door of this location we were very intrigued. Don't be fooled by the shop - walk up the stairs and you are greeted by a modern but warm interior with seating available on a balcony that on chilly nights can be heated. We ordered the prosecco to start and a respectable german spätburgunder to go with our main dishes. I had the Wiener schnitzel - one of the tenderest schnitzels I've ever eaten - and it was prepared in clarified butter which added to the rich taste. My partner had the venison which, cooked to perfection, nearly melted in the mouth. Next time we are in Munich another visit to this restaurant is at the top of our list.

Yelp
For quality of products served and sold here, you cannot do better. Our table of four shared many delicacies including lobster claw, pumpkin curry soup, ox carpaccio, deer medallions, and lamb shoulder - all prepared perfectly to the temperatures that would bring out the most flavor and the best texture. These are masters in the kitchen. The shops (deli, cheeses, liqueurs, wines, fresh breads, desserts, kitchen sundries and home supplies) underneath the restaurant are filled with goodies and wonderful seasonal treats for the belly and the home. A wonderful place to visit to look around or share a fantastic meal. Bravo! My only complaint was that table service was sluggish - we felt quite ignored initially. However, once our waiter arrived and took our orders, the rest of the service was timely and consistent.

Yelp
Love this place! I've been coming here for decades when I travel to Munich. The marketplace and restaurant are both amazing! I love the duck entree at the restaurant and potato dumplings!

Chris C.

Yelp
Feinkost Käfer is with no doubt one of the best restaurants in Munich. Not only the service is excellent, also the food is delicious. Every single time I've been there so far, I was more than satisfied. Since Käfer is also the most prestigious restaurant in Munich, this is certainly the place to go if you are a visitor/ tourist in Munich and you are looking for a special location. Enjoy!

Vlad A.

Yelp
Very taste))nice service ,the only thing is that they have clean the tables and chairs that outside , before quests will sit down , because a lot of leaves with small beetles falling down !!)but everything else is perfect !)

Michael Y.

Yelp
Service in Germany can sometimes be less than satisfying. Käfer is a standout exception. Warm and welcoming is how I would describe the atmosphere. Attentive, polite, kind and professional is how I would describe the staff. The food is outstanding. It is simple and approachable but of very high quality. The restaurant itself is an adventure when you walk through it. I wish I lived in Munich so that I could be a regular. If you are looking for a special evening, treat yourself to a night at Käfer.

Marty K.

Yelp
If you've forgotten to reserve a table at Oktoberfest, and timing is too tight to do it by mail or online, visit the Käfer Wies'n service. You'll be able to walk out with your tickets. And the Käfer tent is a class above the usual mosh-pit swill of the others.

Kevin H.

Yelp
Great food with a huge selection. Large prepared foods section, wonderful cafe for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant upstairs is one of the finest in Munich if not Germany. Also wonderful selection of wines in the cellar. I moved to the neighborhood just to be near the place.

Bill S.

Yelp
Ive been going here for many years! Yes it's expensive but, if you wanted first class food at an exclusive 1st class European Restaurant this is Munich's best!

Qype User (Maxko…)

Yelp
The Eat of this restaurant is very nice, i do like it very much.. :D but the price of the menues are very expensive...

Dimitris M.

Yelp
A Nice restaurant in munich, the food is Pretty good (not fancy at all) for its price! We were offered also a bottle of wine with our Menu, but it wasn't the right choice. The only Thing, that I would change is the maître( his French accent was killing me), and I would put some more fantasy in their menu.

Kristin K.

Yelp
we enjoyed a 7 course meal with our friends (who were all chefs) along with paired wines. it was amazing, my favorite was a pasta dish with fresh truffles.

Qype User (finesc…)

Yelp
Well cooked food but expensive! Had fish soup which was 15 sthing euros. Portion was small but very well cooked with a garlic chili aioli. Flammkuchen was a tenner and amazing. Can't figure out how they got the base so thin. The food shop was amaZing but very pricey. December time is great timing as they have all Xmas decorations out.
