Kanalen

"This quaint building was once the Harbour Police Office, and there's a delightful canal-side terrace from which you can watch the boats bobbing up and down as you eat. Inside it has a bistro-like feel, with long wooden benches and old plank flooring. Dishes are seasonal, unpretentious and full of flavour; some honouring Danish traditions and others bringing Mediterranean ingredients into play." - Michelin Inspector

Great restaurant, lovely flavours. Best in mind that portions are quite small, even the mains can be just a few bites. The pork from the mains is incredibly fatty, the tartar was amazing, and the tempura peppers were also pretty great! The staff is welcoming, but it’s a little odd when making a reservation for outside seating, and be placed inside just because other customers were there earlier. It is definitely lovely inside too, especially if you seat by the window.

Brilliant small French influenced restaurant along a quiet channel. Excellent vibrant service & well executed & creative dishes. We shared lots of small plates & explored several great white wines. Perfect lazy Friday lunch.

Very pleasant experience. From the beginning and reception by staff. Atmosphere / ambience was welcoming. Waiter was upbeat knowledgeable and attentive ( but not overly attentive). Sat outside and tables were well spaced. Interesting/creative offerings well executed.

We had one of our best meals in ages at Kanalen. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs finishing plates and cooking over open coals - always intriguing and fun to watch. The food was varied, creative, and delicious. The portion sizes were small but sufficient and the guidance for ordering quantities was accurate. They comfortably accommodated a lactose intolerant guest and were generous in their wine pours. Our favorites included the ibérican pork skewers, oysters, and ceviche, but everything we ate was amazing.

Google
Michelin recommended restaurant, the main course Danish pork with chopped mulberry sauce and Spanish pepper . The dessert ice cream cheese with strawberry powder and violet flowers is charming, and the caramel shortbread at the bottom is crispy and delicious.

We had a fántastic (small) lunch here!! The service was outstanding, the view and the terrace were worth the visit and the vibes super good. And then the food was fantastic, quality, presentation, price-quality (for Cph standards)👌🏼 this is a must visit! If I can give one tip, it’s to service some normal bread with butter with the bites as well.

I wanted to like this place so badly, but I left hungry and mad that I wasted the money. Ambiance and location were cute, staff was nice... But that food just missed the mark. As a solo traveler I had 3 items (1 starter and 2 small plates) and the timing was so uneven spaced I was waiting 20-30 min between each plate. I ordered the bikini toast which was toasted so lovely but there was SO MUCH truffle taste. It wasn't pleasant. The next was the potatoe waffle with a crab salad. My idea of a potato waffle is much like a potato pancake but done in a crispy fashion. I'm expecting dense and hot and salty but this could have been any flavorless waffle from a street vendor. The Crab salad had so much creme fraiche that it honestly felt like I was eating a spoonful of creme /mayonnaise with a hint of crab. It was a very unpleasant bite considering I was hoping for a dense salty crispy potatoe waffle and crab.... And I got airy dough with creme. Last was grilled langoustines. The aoili served with it was so flavorless. Not a hint of garlic. Barely any meat to the langoustine. By the time I finally got the dish I was irked, and the very crunchy toast "croutons" just were too hard to be pleasant. Concept of this place is great. But this was a disappointment for my visit and palate.

Playful foreign flavors bring Danish traditions a fresh take on life. Bravo Chef. Staff tuned and service was smooth, plates well timed. One team one dream!

Yelp
God atmosfære, imødekommende værtskab, sublim beliggenhed, æstetiske rammer og virkelig god mad & drikke.Oplagt til såvel parmiddage som større arrangementer.Virkelig god kvalitet uden eksorbitante priser.Fortjener sin fremhævelse i Michelin-guiden.

Yelp
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. I love that we were able to sit outside and see ships; the service and food were absolutely phenomenal. I love that we were able to order a variety of small dishes and thought that the prices were fair. Would definitely return if I am ever in the area again!

Yelp
The service from all staff was superb. All their food is served in small plates. We took the servers recommendation and had 4 appetizers,2 fish a pasta and a pork dish. It was a tasting fantasy! All dishes were recommended by the server. The restaurant is on a quiet canal so you're looking out at the boats. Kanalen has been recommended by Michelin and I hope they get a star someday.

Yelp
Charges for use of foreign credit card and lied and claimed that this is standard practice in Denmark when every other restaurant we went to had no such fee. This is NOT a foreign transaction fee but a predatory service charge aimed at tourists that is only disclosed at the end of the meal when you pay your bill. The food was good but this left a horrible taste in my mouth at the end of my meal.

Yelp
Located on one of the side canals (busy with pleasure boats) is the small restaurant Kanalen. If you go -make a reservation as they were turning away people on the night we were there. Also know that while they have a great terrace to sit outside and watch the boats- if there is any chance of rain or if the temps are below 20c they close the terrace. And it is quite warm in the restaurant so just know to wear layers you can peel off. After our hopes of eating outside were dashed- we were seated at a small table by the windows where we could watch all the activity on the canal. Know that this place serves mainly wines. Mixed drinks other than a couple of the basics are out of their scope. My dining companion went through an entire litany of drinks before settling for a crisp, bubbly wine. There are only two choices on the menu: a tasting menu where you can choose from 3-8 courses, and a seasonal menu where you can choose 3-4 courses. We chose one of each - a 5 course menu from the tasting. And and the four course menu from the seasonal menu. Know if you order in matched numbers of courses there will be a "rest period" for one of the people. The food was quite good but it's Important to note that this is as much about how the food looks as how it tastes. The food is beautifully plated but some may think kits too fancy or that the portion sizes are too small. But I will tell you that by the time you have all the courses you will be quite full. I also liked that one of my courses was a cheese course and they let me choose the types of cheese that I wanted. And whatever the berry thing was that I had for dessert- just know it was so good with white chocolate and cream that I wanted to lick the plate! Know that this is a leisurely dining experience. There is plenty of time between the courses to relax and enjoy some of the great wines that they have. It took almost three hours for dinner which some of my American friends thought was way too long given the temperature in the restaurant. I thought it was fine for this type of experience. And if you are wondering what to wear - just know that anything goes in this place. Given the proximity to the canal and boats- people come in everything from work clothes to shorts. A lovely, classy choice for fine dining when in Copenhagen!

Yelp
Nice but pricey. Their Champagne was very nice. The location can't get better you are by the canal in a very quite place on a sunny day it is unbeatable to eat by the water in the center of the city plus the walk or bike to get there gives you the excuse to use the new bridge on summer however it is tricky with all the tourists. Other than that I had the hand peeled shrimps for a starter it was ok nothing outstanding and the wine recommended to go with was quite boring a Bourgogne Blanc I followed with the cod and it was again just ok not that tasty a little flat on the taste the wine was fine but again nothing outstanding I tried their Fleurie from Beaujolais. I tried their coffee it was quite bad. The place is nice and cozy the food is ok but nothing more I think price quality I wouldn't go back on my own money though for a business lunch the service is top notch the place is quiet and the atmosphere very chilled so I will say I would go back for business.

Yelp
Pretty charming place. I had the 6-course menu and everything was excellent tasting, especially the fish meals and the ol-brod dessert again. I would call their style as French-Danish and their menu changes also often depending what is available seasonally. Definitely recommended and I hope to take some guests there next time.

Yelp
This is a charming canal-side restaurant, with traditional Danish cuisine and a lovely terrace for outdoor dining. The herring appetizers were delicious, especially when accompanied with a good aquavit. But if you stray from their classic offerings, you will likely be disappointed. The steak, for example, arrived in a black sauce, partly derived from squid ink. This dish did not quite work, to say the least. Still, overall, this was a very nice experience.

Yelp
This place is both cozy and charming with its location right next to the side canals. I came here by myself for lunch and they were happy to serve me. As my first Danish meal experience, I was very surprised at the level of sophistication they emphasize with everything whether it be the meal, the table layout or the customer service. My server, Daniel, was very friendly and did not treat me any different than most of the other customers who were there on business. He recommended a good red wine to start and then presented each dish while explaining how it was prepared. I even stopped him to ask a few questions which he did not mind answering for me. I had to try the dessert and I'm glad that I did as it was an unbelievable chocolate mousse. I did not expect much for a place that I just called ahead to ask if I could be seated for lunch. Hidden gem of a restaurant!!
