La Grand'Vigne - Les Sources de Caudalie

"Only a few kilometres from Bordeaux, this place is a true corner of paradise nestled in the vineyards. It has been given a completely new look, in harmony with its natural surroundings. Nicolas Masse is the chef behind La Grand'Vigne, the hotel's fine dining restaurant. He is squarely focused on one goal: to showcase the Aquitaine terroir (and its vegetable cornucopia) and wines, especially those of Pessac Léognan. The white wine brings out the pearliness of the line-caught hake cooked with courgette flowers, drenched in a fish stock with white wine infused with nasturtium; the red wine beautifully accompanies the Pyrenean suckling lamb cooked rare and garnished with small Médoc chanterelles and a bugne (fritter) stuffed with confit shoulder." - Michelin Inspector

Rooted in Nature, Refined on the Plate Dining at La Grand’Vigne – Les Sources de Caudalie Tucked within the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, La Grand’Vigne — the two Michelin-starred restaurant at Les Sources de Caudalie — offers a dining experience where refined gastronomy meets the calm beauty of nature. With views across the vines and a sleek, elegant interior, the space feels quietly luxurious, balancing modernity with its natural surroundings. We chose the “Journey through the Terre de Vignes” — a five-course tasting menu with wine pairings. The menu is kept a surprise, tailored only to your preferences or allergies. It’s a beautifully curated experience that invites you to trust the chef and enjoy each course as a moment of discovery. The restaurant’s philosophy is deeply rooted in sustainability and locality. Many ingredients are harvested directly from the estate’s gardens, while others come from trusted producers the team knows personally. The result is a menu that feels grounded, seasonal, and precise — every dish speaking subtly of the land it came from. A detail that stood out was the attentiveness of the service. Each time a dish was presented, the staff naturally paused to see if guests wanted to take photos before offering an explanation. In a place where presentation is clearly part of the art, that small gesture made the experience feel thoughtful and unhurried — as if they truly wanted you to savor every element. The wine pairings were carefully chosen, deepening the flavors without overpowering the food. From ocean-sourced delicacies to earthy local vegetables, the journey was balanced and immersive. La Grand’Vigne isn’t just about fine dining — it’s about rhythm, respect, and refinement. Everything feels intentional, from the ingredients to the pacing to the atmosphere. It’s the kind of experience that lingers not because it demands attention, but because it earns it.

Delicious food, friendly service, elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Save some room for the cheese cart. Don’t skip on dinning here if you are staying at the hotel, I also recommend it for anyone visiting the region of Bordeaux. Reasonable price for a 2 star restaurant.

My husband and I love great food. We’ve been traveling around Europe trying out different 2-3 Michelin Star Restaurants all summer. This place was an utter disappointment. Nothing about this restaurant says “2 Michelin Stars”. We truly wanted to enjoy this meal, however, both, the food and the service, were not exceptional. In fact, they were quite average. We chose the tasting menu and it lacked taste. Presentation was beautiful, however, the food was simply average. It was also largely vegetarian, with one meat course. That is not a problem but it was not quite extraordinary, which you shall expect from a 2-Michelin restaurant. Our waitress was great, the sommelier was good, but the man who was supposed to present the cheese to us was not. The restaurant staff asked us if we would like a cheese course before we move on to the dessert and we opted-in. However, after 22 minutes of waiting for it, watching the man take his time talking to the other table presenting the cheese without any awareness of the room, was quite aggravating. We obviously notified the staff of our aggravation and even they could not get his attention. In fact, we watched staff trying to catch his attention in the most abrupt ways and he was completely clueless and unaware of his surroundings. That is just bad training, bad leadership, and awful hospitality. Afterwards, when we addressed it to that man, his response was, and I quote, “if you didn’t see, I was focused on what I was doing”. That is rude. The restaurant did NOTHING to make up for it. We had a bottle of wine and the meal ended up being $798 for two people (they also do not include service in their prices). So, yes, I would not go back. Waste of time and money.

Outstanding food and service. The chefs highlight a few simple ingredients on their dishes without overpowering add ons. Truly a joy watching the chefs prepare dishes with such care and passion. So much flavor in every bite of these dishes, the menu is truly a journey. Take your time and enjoy the ride!

I really wanted to fall in love with this restaurant. It was set in a beautiful conservatory/green house looking room. The vines were lining the hills. The ambience was romantic, but it unfortunately didn't impress me. The sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations. I enjoyed the wine the most out of this dinner. I was a bit disappointed by the dishes. First, I was surprised how many vegetable based dishes were served at this restaurant, but that was alright, as most of them were local. As with any Michelin starred restaurant, the food was tasty along with the wine pairings. Unfortunately, we felt like we had been immensely impressed by other one starred Michelin restaurants. The food here was absolutely high quality, but it just didn't take me on a gastronomic adventure - especially noting the price.

Absolutely divine. Don’t stay at the hotel and come to eat here the same. Hotel still has several problems but this place made our stay. Loved the wine selection, divine intervention of dishes, fun service, ambiance, and each and every surprise! Look forward to visiting again in the future.

We really wanted to love it but it was a best, average. The first dish, paté, was amazing - full of flavor and had us very excited. However, from there, the flavors seems to hide away. While visually well presented, the dishes were lacking. We went to another Michelin restaurant the following day and the two did not compare. This was average. I also took a star away for their inability to clear our plates until just before the next course - very shocking for a supposedly 2 star Michelin.

Stayed at the hotel, and dined here our last night. Was definitely the biggest disappointment of the trip, even with low expectations — I’m surprised this place has 2-michelin stars. There were several issues. 1. The food taste. Even comparing to both traditional and contemporary fine-dining gastronomy, the food taste just wasn’t great. While the presentation focused on vineyards and grapes was interesting, the taste did not live up to it at all. 2. The wine list & price. We visited more than 4 michelin starred restaurants (both in Bordeaux and Paris), and lo and behold, the place with the most overpriced wines is at the restaurant that’s located inside of a vineyard. A 2018 Smith Haut Lafite bottle cost 260 euros at the vineyard — it cost 900 euros at the restaurant. Likewise, all the wines were priced at nearly double what they were compared to other restaurants. I don’t know if the restaurant operators trying to squeeze money from tourists. Sad. 3. The service. The sommelier had a very petty attitude from the beginning, and we constantly had to ask to refill our glasses because nobody would check up. Not to mention, we were served dessert without being given any spoons… 🤦‍♂️If I was dining at a local brasserie or a McDonald’s I wouldn’t care about the service, but this is a supposedly (questionable) 2-michelin star restaurants costing mininum 200 Euros per person. They can do better aa much better.

Yelp
Superb customer service and food. Upon our arrival, we had booked reservations through the resort. We were seated immediately. The complimentary bread and olive spread was delivered, and so delicious. We ordered a salad with shaved truffles, wine, the steak with roasted potatoes, and pistachio dessert. The steak was soooo flavorful and well worth every bite! I highly recommend eating here a few times if staying at the spa. The food is seasonal, and the chefs do pick fresh produce from their two gardens on site.

Yelp
What a treat! My vegetarian/gluten-free wife had an amazing zucchini dish with a black garlic sauce and I had a black sausage in philo. Both were amazing! The wine that we had was also (not surprising) delicious. If you are going to be in the Bordeaux area, drive a half hour south and eat here!
