Hacienda de Oro Review - Puerto Vallarta - The Infatuation

"A stroll through acres of lush greenery at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens is a nice break from getting sand in every crevice of your body at the beach. Finish your hike with lunch on the outdoor balcony of their restaurant, Hacienda de Oro, where you can enjoy excellent tortilla soup while chirping away with hummingbirds, chachalacas, and more avian besties." - Gabe Bergado

You're going to thank me later for this one Folks! Like I've said before I don't leave a lot of reviews unless something is extraordinary one way or the other. We've been to every quote unquote nice place and Puerto Vallarta this one tops them all Chef inspired food without the chef inspired prices paired with some of the most beautiful serenic nature views I have seen in Mexico combined with unparalleled service and friendly staff. You can easily spend a couple hours wandering a free-flowing river hiking trails and or the thousands of beautiful flowers or simply come for a delicious and scenic meal... Enjoy but don't tell too many people you know about this place, I'd hate to come back and have to wait.

This is a must when visiting the botanical gardens. The view is phenomenal and the food wonderful; two things that hardly ever come together to equal a great experience!

This restaurant has such lovely atmosphere with great servers! Sitting on the patio overlooking the gardens and river is such a beautiful view. The best part was seeing all the different beautiful birds flying around, and having atleast 4 hummingbirds coming up to the feeder was such a lovely sight. The brick oven nachos were so so good and the rustic avocado salad was even better!! Overall great vibes! Thank you Adrian for the great service and knowledgeable insights on the different birds!

Super hard to beat the serenity and calmness of this place! Food is good, but what is super awesome is the vibe, the service, people and the music! None of that up beat high bass city music! Live violin and piano… relaxing songs.. birds singing, if you seat on the balcony you can also enjoy a little breeze and the fade sound of water in the background! Can not possibly explain how relaxing this place was in words! There is a 300mxn entry fee for the gardens( totally worth it). The food was very fairly priced, nicely presented, good mix of drinks as well! Staff were super nice and helpful too! Make sure you pay attention to the million pieces of handmade tiles and other art prices as well! Cleanness: clean Seating: indoor and balcony Service: great Views: super awesome Noise level: rather quite and relaxing Food: good Price: fair Menu diversity: good mix of American and Mexican plus oven made pizza

Google
Wonderful restaurant and bar at the top of the botanical gardens. The food is delicious and drinks are out of this world. Hummingbirds and beautiful hanging plants surround your every view. Really makes spending extra time here to view all the birds and plants a real treat.

The Vallarta Botanical Garden is a beautiful place to visit. Another good thing about it is that it has a pretty good restaurant serving traditional Mexican food. Excellent shrimp and avocado salad, very good pork belly tacos. Nice guacamole and mediocre tortilla soup. A very busy place. Overall, worth a visit when you want good quality tasty Mexican food.

Google
Beautiful spot for a meal overlooking the gardens and lush jungle. We had breakfast and coffee - the potatoes that come with breakfast (not to be confused with the chorizo hash) were probably the best potatoes we've ever had!

Yelp
We found this place after traversing the gardens. We had the colodas -'s they were perfect!

Yelp
We have been LOYAL customers for several years at this restaurant. However, prices and portions have been Increasing & Decreasing at a rapid speed. Today's lunch for two was no exception. The house specialty (and the main reason we eat here) is for the house made coconut cake. The portion has "slimed down" last year from normal, but this year? It's VERY SMALL (think 4 maybe 5 bites) and $7+ for that slice. I'm disappointed, again the restaurant has always been a pleasure, but with the average lunch tab hitting $60+ it's getting unreasonable.

Yelp
Ambiance 5 stars! Service 3 stars Food 4 stars First the ambiance is amazing. We were seated overlooking the river and it was so relaxing. They have hummingbird feeders and some areas with fruit for birds so you get a nice birdwatching opportunity. Cocktails: pricey but tasty. This was the best margarita we had in PV. I had the vanilla mojito which was flavorful. Food: we started with the guacamole which was disappointing. For mains we got the garlic butter fish, which was a big piece of fish and very tasty. It came with asparagus and bread, but I swore the menu said rice but the waiter kept saying homemade bread. I just accepted it and didn't eat the bread even though it was tasty it didn't really go with the meal. We also got the quesadilla, which was tasty with caramelized onions. Overall food quality was high. Service: Our meals took a while, but we did come at lunch rush. Our waiter kept trying to upsell us which I don't appreciate especially when we're ordering drinks, an app, and mains. Price: this place is definitely pricey especially for drinks (but their drinks are delicious). We paid $100 for 2 cocktails, 1 app, 2 mains, and tip.

Yelp
The breezy open air restaurant is just gorgeous, and being greeted with cold hibiscus tea right after sitting down is nothing short of delightful after working up a sweat wondering the garden paths. The waiters were the nicest I've maybe ever encountered- really, the staff is worth a visit alone. The blackberry mojitos were delicious although not very strong. I had fish tacos and my husband had the steak tacos, and while neither of us were overly impressed with the food, the overall ambiance and friendly staff were well worth the visit.

Yelp
Welcomed by their complimentary hibiscus iced tea... Relaxing view... Friendly staff that feels like a friend you have never met. Regarding the food I expected it to be overpriced and touristy... However it was made with real love. I had the Botanical Garden Salad and the Chocolate and Macadamia Cake with their organic local coffee. The Salad was super fresh with ingredients from the surrounding botanical garden accompanied with the Maracuja Vinaigrette which offered sweet savory deliciousness. The cake was a perfect combination of layered cake and cream. Smooth and not too sweet. The coffee was honestly somewhat weak but I got free refills which balanced it out.

Yelp
We were staying in Las Juntas y Los Veranos and our first morning there we decided to visit the botanical garden which has this amazing restaurant. It was the perfect way to start our vacation! The staff were very friendly and the food was spectacular!! I highly recommend making the trip for both the botanical garden and restaurant

Yelp
What doesn't this place have? Excellent food, great drinks, superb service, stunning vistas, live music (table side violin), butterflies, and hummingbirds. A must-visit and they open early. Not going to lie, we arrived here starving. So we impulse ordered nachos and bean dip. The nachos are baked in a brick oven, like the pizzas, and arrived with a solid crunch to them. We added arrachera (beef) and I would've ordered two more sides of it as it was juicy and charred to perfection. The restaurant starts you with tart and slightly spiced pickled cucumber which was really refreshing. And the salsa they serve is massive, I think my husband viewed it as a challenge to try to finish it. He did not. We had two beers and two of the mojitos to drink. Neither of the mojitos were terribly strong, but they were both flavorful. And honestly, you don't want a strong drink to fortify before hiking around anyways. The vanilla was lightly sweet, and created an almost addictive impulse to have another sip to taste more, while the mint provided a strong vegetal flavor that made the drink feel more adult. Try to sit on the terrace! You'll have views of the gardens, the river, and birds. Some butterflies may pop by as well.

Yelp
Second time here, first time was about 2018 and we had the tortilla soup and it was delicious Today, we were part of a sun buggy tour that stopped here and they provided a complimentary cold drink. We sat in area facing the cut up fruit and saw so many hummingbirds. They are very nice workers here We wish Sun Buggy had us eat lunch here instead of at Mismaloya beach. The food there was dreadful.

Yelp
One of the more pleasant surprises I've had at a restaurant in a tourist destination - it was amazing. Almost upscale, while maintaining a resort atmosphere. Every dish I tried was fresh tasting and delicious. Even though it was lunchtime, they serve their breakfast menu - best avocado toast I've had in a while. Prices are definitely higher than in town, but hardly excessive. Two of us ate our full for under 700 pesos. If this were closer to town, I would be returning more frequently.

Yelp
This was the first time coming to the Botanical Gardens, which in itself is spectacular... but the food and views at this restaurant are spectacular. The service and our server, Andre was great. They served some of the best guacamole I've ever tasted, and the hibiscus tea was good. If I come back this way, I'd definitely try this restaurant again.

Yelp
Do not miss the restaurant at the botanical garden!! It is so amazing. We go every year and it's always a favorite. The food and the view are wonderful. Be sure to get the rustic avocado salad - that is a special dish. We eat all over PV and this is one out of enduring favorites.

Yelp
Simply amazing! Great gift to the environment...Thank you for this beautiful experience for the whole family

Yelp
Don't miss out on the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful botanical gardens and restaurants in the world! While eating humming birds flutter by and are a constant while eating in May. I will be back for sure and can't wait to share this with other family members and friends. It is truly a magical experience. I have never been anywhere likes this.

Yelp
Where do I begin to describe this oasis. Everything about the place was top notch. Food, staff , ambiance, the setting !!! I could have spent all day here . It's peaceful and sooo romantic. The drive may be long , I promise it's worth every penny !!!!!!!

Yelp
This restaurant is a wonderful place! Pros: Amazing atmosphere Amazing views from the dining terrace on the second floor Very kind and attentive staff Delicious fish tacos! Delicious shrimp casadillas Delicious nopales asados Delicious guacamole and chips Coffee is very good too. Beautiful music performed by visiting musicians. Room for improvement: The food is definitely put together for the Tourist's palate and it would be nice to see more of true Mexican flavors Music performed was beautiful but I would prefer to listen to Mexican music. There is so much beautiful music in Mexico! We will be back!

Yelp
A-List. This is an experience. 2nd floor, big gorgeous tropical mountaintop and valley views, tropical breezes wandering through, beautiful wood work, solid tables, comfortable seating. You feel like you have arrived to somewhere special. As for the food, it's done right, it will satisfy you, unlike other comments I have read here and on Google, portions are restrictive and the dishes we had (poke and tuna poke with a side order of rice) were competent and really just good - nothing more and nothing less - not over the top, no Wow factor, not approaching a top notch establishment in Puerto Vallarta or elsewhere. The drinks were cold and freshing and complimented the food. Service was prompt, accurate and their were attempts at making a connection/humour. There were no issues with the bill or payment. You'll need to bring a lot of cash or a CREDIT CARD as this well run and beautiful venue demands premium pricing. Go for the experience. Recommended. As always, for real. You be the judge.

Yelp
Cool jungle views with good food makes for a fabulous time! They greet you with a cute little cup of refreshing cold tea. Between the 4 of us we had the avocado salad, fish tacos and piña coladas. Service was friendly. All was good, except for when I felt something slither by my ankles, looked down to see a huge iguana under our table next to my feet, yikes! After I screamed and jumped onto my chair, he quickly disappeared. But that did not stop me from enjoying the views and my food. I just kept my feet up and my eyes were on the lookout LOL!

Yelp
This restaurant is located inside the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. After walking around the gardens, my wife and I and another couple were pretty hungry and we saw there was a restaurant located in the center of the gardens, so we decided to give it a try. Our first though was that it was going to be some quick eat just ok style meal, but we were pretty hungry and didn't really care. There's a small gift shop downstairs with all kinds of cool little trinkets and gifts. Once you walk through you come to some stairs which is actually very cool, the steps are lined with tiles that you can buy with any saying on them you'd like, and the money goes towards the funding of the gardens. Upstairs you get to a very cute restaurant that is all open so you can view over the whole gardens and see the mountains, a very incredible view, also nice being so open cause it was very hot and the breeze was coming in and made it nice! The menu is simple, different Mexican dishes, as well as some pizza's, salads and sandwiches. They first bring you a complimentary tea, I'm not sure what kind, but the couple we were with absolutely loved it, I think it was some kind of floral kind of tea. We begun our order with some chips and guacamole, the guacamole was excellent, made fresh for us, tons of flavor and the right texture. The chips were nice and crispy, kind of thick, but not too thick, perfect for dipping into the guacamole. My wife and I chose to share a club sandwich with fries, and the couple we were with ordered a shrimp Caesars salad, and a Caprese salad. The club sandwich was very good, I mean it's a club sandwich, there's not much you can do to it, but it was good. The shrimp Caesars salad and Caprese salad were loved by our friends. The French fries that came with our sandwich were pretty darn good as well, thicker like steak fries and cooked and seasoned perfectly, the outside nice and crispy, while the inside was soft and moist. The waiters and staff were incredibly nice, and made sure our waters and sodas were always filled. If you're making a trip to the Botanical Gardens I highly recommend stopping into the restaurant for a meal or even just a snack. Super friendly people and better than average food and all while enjoying an absolutely beautiful view!

Yelp
Everything about this place was good. The food, the ambiance, the staff, and the view. I had the steak quesadilla with corn tortilla and the meat was some of the most tender meat I've had. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
Ok, this place gets 5 stars! Amazing view, overlooking a rushing river, and the food was some of the best we had during our trip. Possibly the best salsa I've ever had. It's on the menu: Traditional Chismole Salsa. If you go there, get this salsa... trust me on this one. http://www.vbgardens.org/restaurant-la-hacienda-de-oro-menu/ It was amazing!! Saludos to the chef who made that for us!! (see pics) The handmade corn tortillas on our Quesadilla Xochimilco were also as good as any I've had, anywhere. I highly recommend this dish (see pics, see menu) Perfect Cadillac Margaritas and the Gringo Borachio was a winner! They have hummingbird feeders hanging from the railing, right next to the tables, and there are tons of hummers cruising around. This place is in the jungle people! The Gardens are also amazing to see. We went during the butterfly festival, and there were loads of awesome butterflies and skippers, and flowers of all kinds! Visit the gardens, have lunch at this place, pretty sure you're gonna like it! :-)

Yelp
Not a bargain, but very delicious. The fish tacos were perfect: served with guacamole, tartar sauce and pico. The thing about this place that I liked is that if you really must have a straw with you beverage, they will give you a straw made from bamboo- renewable and keeping with their mission of conservation.

Yelp
After a draining hike around the Vallarta Botanical Garden, you must grab a table and eat at the restaurant "La Hacienda de Oro". With a stunning balcony view over the gardens, you can find authentic Mexican food with proportions big enough to feed plenty. This restaurant serves quickly and comes with a complementary drink. The drink that was served with our lunch was a hibiscus infused tea. The staff was excellent and made sure we were well tended for. You can let them know of any allergies or spice preferences you would like. Complementary appetizers include refreshing cucumber with lime and chile drizzled on top. Although the food came out in 10-15 minutes, it noted on the menu that pizzas may take up to 30 minutes to arrive. Overall a beautiful place with friendly staff and great food.
