L'Arôme

"This restaurant at the foot of the village is clearly at one with the region and its specialities. The fresh country - style decor is as charming as can be, from the 14C vaulted dining area to the terrace. The food itself is all about authenticity, and the chef places a special emphasis on freshness, flavour and generosity! As aromatic as its name suggests." - Michelin Inspector

During our 10-day trip around the SoF, this meal truly stood out as one of the best. Every dish was crafted with attention to detail, and burst with flavor. This is what french cooking is all about. To not be missed when you're in the area.

We feel super lucky to have found this really wonderful restaurant. We didn’t have a reservation or read any reviews beforehand but happened to be walking past one evening while staying in Bonnieux and decided to have dinner there. SO happy we did. The food was amongst the best we experienced while in France for two weeks. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Very charming. Go, you won’t be disappointed.

What a wonderful dinner we had here. We stumbled in after the sudden rain storm caused many restaurants to close. After being turned down from other restaurants they were so warm, friendly, and accommodating here. They set up a charming table outside under the canopy around the beautiful plants and lights, and gave us blankets so we couldn’t be chilly! The food and service was exceptional and we all said we couldn’t have planned a better evening!

Wonderful restaurant with gorgeous food and very friendly staff. We are touring the region and had no reservation. We checked when we walked by whether they had a free table but they had not (we later found out they are usually booked 2 weeks in advance). When we continued the man from the restaurant came after us telling us they just had a cancellation. So we where double lucky since the food was really delicious. When in the area, try to get a reservation, it’s really worth it.

This restaurant was a highlight of our stay in Provence. I had the Red pepper pannacotta with a parmesan crust for an entree - divine. For main I had the duck breast in a Wellington style - best duck I have ever had! and dessert was a chocolate tart with caramel cream - heaven. I am still thinking about this incredible restaurant with wonderful service, delicious food and a lovely authentic atmosphere.

Very expensive. Atmosphere was relaxed but very stylish. Staff were charming. Food was not only beautifully presented but superb to taste and very satisfying proportions. Including 1 bottle of wine expect to pay EU60 per person.

Yelp
The food here is over the top and some of the finest you will find here in Bonnieux. The Wait Staff was very attentive patient and spoke both French and English enough to make the dining experience, incredibly enjoyable. Making our dining experience excellent if nothing else, the ambience is truly an excellent expression of a step back in time with all modern accoutrements. If you ever plan on visiting this small, quaint village in Provence L'Arôme is a stop on your bucket list for dinning at least several times to enjoy quality food, service and ambiance

Yelp
If I die tomorrow, I want the Lobster Risotto from L'Arome as my last meal. I tried to tell our waiter this but because of my poor French, it did not translate well. We started with a bottle of local red from Chateau les Eydins and it was the perfect recommendation. So much so that we stopped at the Chateau on our way out of town for a magnum to bring home. Next up was the Tuna Tartare which was original and impressive. Then on to the main meal of Filet with Foie Gras for my husband and the beloved Lobster Risotto for myself. It was decadent, it was heavenly and I cannot wait to come back. Even for lunch, it was a bit pricey but who can put a price tag on such an outstanding meal. If you're in the Luberon region, spend some time wondeBonnieux and do not miss L'Arome.

Yelp
This place is unbelievably good! My parents dined here 5 years ago and loved it. And on our first trip to Provence, we made a point to dine here and we were very pleased with every dish. We chose the 3 course lunch. There was an amuse bouche of a red pepper panna cotta to start which was delicious. Then we had a cold zucchini soup with goat cheese and basil. Perfectly executed. Next was the roasted Guinea hen which was perfectly seasoned and the skin was nice and crisp but the meat was still moist. Fabulous! Last was a plum dessert which I can't remember exactly but I'll do my best. There were slices of a fresh regional plum not available in the US that was sweeter than what we have, and then a plum preserve. Both were atop a delicious tart crust, with ice cream on the side. Service was superb and the setting is wonderful as well!

Yelp
Excellent dinner. Provided and English menu and accommodated celiac request. Interesting, in-season pairings. Wine selection was robust. Slow to bring "l'addition" after we requested it. MUST MAKE RESERVATION.

Yelp
Reserve in advance as word is out. This charmer in the heart of Luberon features spectacular dishes, most recently a truffle menu. The stuffed zucchini blossoms are out of this world, as is the pistachio creme brûlée. The service is friendly and professional and the ambiance charming. Though the restaurant was full, my spouse and I were able to converse in quiet voice (New York restauranteurs, take note!). Good value given the very high quality. Elegance without a hint of snobbery. Merci, Clara!

Yelp
My husband and I ate dinner here on our 1st day in Bonnieux. I had the duck Wellington (34 euro) and he had a filet (36 euro). The filet was delicious, but the duck was superb, best I've ever had. So good was the dinner we didn't want to chance it on our last night and decided to come back for seconds, which did not disappoint. The first night we ate outside, the last night inside the "cave" portion, what great ambiance in both. Highly recommend this place. Be sure to make reservations if dining on a Friday or Saturday evening.

Yelp
This restaurant is much more than 5 stars. On our last night in Bonnieux, my wife and I had the best meal we've had in France. I had the prix fixe menu @ 45 euros, a scrumptious feast worth every euro. The appetizer of 3 different fish tartares (a lot like ceviche) was unique and a great start to the meal. The main course was a wonderful hunk of veal with a delicious, rich mushroom sauce. This same sauce was on my wife's beef filet, which she declared to be the best she's ever had. For dessert, I totally enjoyed the pistachio crème brûlée, accompanied by a small piece of orange cake and an apricot parfait drunk through a straw -- superb! The service was as outstanding as was the meal. If in the area, we will return to this gem of a restaurant.

Yelp
L'arome was the surprise stellar restaurant of our entire months journey in France. It was suggested by our property managers, at a home we'd rented in Roussillon. They could not have been more correct. A small place, without a view in a town of views. I say that because it matters. You have to INTEND to stop here and choose this place and the magic that awaits is unbelievable. It's lovely and the staff is perfect. But the food outshines everything else. We had a stunning 3 fish ceviche, a barley risotto and slow roasted pork that came with a plate of yummy to support it that would boggle the mind. But it doesn't matter what you have. Just get to this place. Pass all the other places with picture menus and square crowds or private patios with wonderful and find this spot, tucked away, where food is really the star.

Yelp
Four of us ate dinner on September 27th 2015 we enjoyed a well prepared and tasty meal however the ambience was pretentious and our greeting by the host unwelcoming and phoney. Not on our list for a revisit.

Yelp
We go here every time we're in Provence. Last time there I had the asparagus risotto. May have been the best thing I've ever eaten. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
