Le Gourmet de Sèze

"Bernard Mariller, one of the chefs behind the revival of Lyon’s food scene in the 1990s, has been plying his trade in this street, just a few steps from the restaurant’s original address, for some thirty years. This son and grandson of farmers from the Saône-et-Loire, who boasts stints with Joël Robuchon, Jacques Lameloise and Michel Troisgros, has lost none of his inimitable energy! He crafts delicious modern cuisine based on seasonal, often noble ingredients (scallops from Erquy and line-caught Brittany seabass). His attention to detail and superlative sauce-making talents are still very much to the fore." - Michelin Inspector

really delicious: seared fois gras, scallops with truffle sauce, beef fillet with red wine sauce, sea bass desserts were full of surprises as well we had the signature set, it was great:) highly recommend the service was nice and welcoming but maybe a bit understaffed?

Can't say anything wrong, the experience was magnificent, worth the Michelin star. We ordered the "discovery menu" and the flavor were simply amazing. If you ask me in particular for a specific course that I particularly loved, it was the cream of truffles with salmon. I'll forever dream with that flavor. Service and the ambience was on top too. At the end of the meal we were able to meet the chef, indeed we mentioned him that we enjoyed the meal.

I visited Le Gourmet de Sèze on the evening of May 20 at 7:30 PM with a friend to celebrate a special occasion. We came with high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. During the meal, I found a hair or bristle in one of the dishes. I took a photo as evidence. When I calmly brought this to the staff’s attention, there was no apology whatsoever. Instead, the staff member responded with a cold and dismissive attitude, repeatedly asking me, “What do you want?”—as if I was being unreasonable simply for raising a hygiene concern. Even more troubling, I noticed that the same staff member was significantly more polite and attentive to other guests. This disparity in treatment made me feel deeply uncomfortable and raised concerns about possible racial bias. For a Michelin-starred restaurant, basic hygiene and respectful service should be guaranteed. Sadly, this was not the case. I will be reporting this incident to the Michelin Guide and other relevant channels.

Michelin Star restaurant, Had the Chef's tasting menu. Each dish was fabulous. 10 course meal. They suggested what wine would go with the meal. We had Red and White which was great. Service was excellent. They explained each dish. Even gave us desert cake to take with us.

Great experience. Excellent food. Good service. A party of three and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Good wine list and a helpful sommelier. Highly recommended worth a visit.

Although the food was delicious, I had the feeling that just because we had chosen the simpler menu the waiters were not attentive. For example, the table in our side chose a more expensive option and receive full explanation about the food and, specially, the wines. I also chose the wine pairing, and I was only asked "red or white" without any context or explanation. Because one doesn't go to a restaurant, specially a Michelin starred one, just to eat, I left this place disappointed and cannot recommend it.

Fantastic. This was the best meal I had in Lyon and outstanding dishes were the scallops starters and sea bass main dish from the 8-course menu. They even give you a ginger cake slice to takeaway “for breakfast”. Bread they serve was incredibly soft and pillowy that they bake themselves. The dishes here each have very strong flavours though I mean that in a good way as they come together well (eg - if it’s a citrus dish, it will be strong in that sense)! Definitely recommend this place!

There was a wonderful atmosphere and the restaurant had amazing waiters. The food was of course great, but the speed in which they served us was not the greatest. There was at least 30 minutes between each plate, but in the end it was definitely worth it. The tasting menu is very good and very much worth a try. It starts off with an amazing foie gras that is rich and creamy. The scallops are better slightly because it has a delicious truffle sauce and rich and amazingly tender scallops. Another reason why the service wasn’t up to par was because they didn’t take the plates away that quick. Our party of eight had to wait relatively long between each course. A recommendation is to order the same amount of plates for your party, because if you order two plates and someone else in your party orders three, you will have to wait thirty or more minutes while the other people eat their second plate. Although the services aren’t as good as other restaurants, Gourmet de Séze is still worth a try.

Yelp
not to be dramatic but this was the best meal i've ever had - i didn't know food could taste like this. out of the various prix fixe menus, we chose the signature menu, which came with around six courses + a few complimentary dishes from the chef. i can't even pick a favorite course because they were all delicious, but the ones that surprised me the most were the duck dishes: the pan-fried duck foie gras (no gamey scent & perfectly paired with the sweet/sour berry sauce) and the duck steak, which was SO tender and tasted like beef. obviously the menu changes depending on the day/week, but here's what we got if you're curious: - pan-fried duck foie gras with sweet/sour berry sauce - grilled scallops with mushrooms in creamy velouté - scallops were juicy but the sauce was what really got me. buttery & creamy!! - char (white fish) with vegetables - duck with butternut squash - an assortment of cheese - cutest dessert spread! - wine: Bourgogne En Montre Cul 2020

Yelp
Would love to give this place 4.5 stars if i can. This place is simply amazing and basically good bang for the €€€ We were served with soooo many courses . I almost had to craw out of the place. Every course was done almost perfectly and tasted good (yes, it was tasty, not just some random meats with super heavy sauce which seems to be a common norm for French restaurants in France! ) The service was a bit slow ... We had to wait quite a while between courses :( but even though they didnt have english menu, the servers were kind enough to translate everything to me :) the chef was equally amiable. I saw him peeking from the kitchen to make sure that we are enjoying his food :) -0.5 star for long wait time between courses and -0.5 star for limited variety of bread and for letting the bread sitting out there. Our first round of bread was good but then it was not warm anymore But 1* michelin well deserved :)

Yelp
This is an amazing venue that I will definitely return to whenever I get another chance to visit Lyon. The "surprise" menu is definitely worth trying. This is probably the first tasting menu for which I loved every dish. Although the dishes looked small, we were completely full by the end of our meal. And they even left us with a special take-home treat! The staff were also very friendly and helping when it came to choosing wines. Chef Bernard came out to say hello after we ate and even joined us for pictures. For the price point, they went above and beyond. It was definitely worth the stop during our stay in Lyon and one of our best meals in France.

Yelp
When preparing to come to the gastronomique capital of France, my teenage sons asked to go to a special meal. They are working on their manners (yes, I did check to see if aliens had invaded their bodies!) so we decided to have lunch at a Michelin star restaurant. Well, no of us were disappointed. The flavor combinations were amazing - truly spectacular! Each course was better than the last, and more original. The only issue was that at the end of lunch when we were the last table in the restaurant, the maître d'/waiter was having a not so private melt down. He went into the toilet and starting kicking things. Then, when I was in the toilet, he went into a closet and started shouting. Very strange and very disconcerting. Fortunately, our waitress was charming and very helpful, even translating into English for us. Bottom line - definitely worth it!

Yelp
astonished that we could enjoy a michelin-starred restaurant meal at a prix- fixe price of 35 euros (plus another 10 for wine pairing), wakako u. and i high-tailed it over to rue de sèze prepared for a true lyonnaise gastronomic adventure. and that is what we got. the quality of the food was undeniable, but our palates may not have been fine-tuned for the nature of lyonnaise cuisine. this is, after all, a city in which tripe, pig's feet, liver, blood sausage, head cheese and donkey snout have starring roles in the culinary show. a show, i must add for the uninitiated, which is considered the best in france, if not the entire world. and so it was that in the lyonnaise spirit, we were fearless in our selections. there were breaded pigs' feet (croustillants de pieds de couchon) to start out with, artfully prepared, followed by rabbit with a black olive tapenade and tomato and parmesan cannelloni. a delightful trio of delicious desserts capped it all off. our second meal (we shared) consisted of a vegetable nicoise with minced salmon crudo in a delicate tart-- lovely-- followed by a pungent hake that was easier on the tongue than it was on the nose. a cheese plate, with the emphasis on goat cheeses, finished everything off nicely. but the true highlight of our dining experience here was the attentive and friendly service. alain, our maitre de and waiter, was a true gem. not only did he put up with my butchery of the menu with my poor french skills, he also gave us two guidebooks on local restaurants and recommendations for dinner. we got to meet chef bernard mariller as well, a friendly fellow who took a genuine interest in our enjoyment of his kitchen creations. alain assured us that dinner here is even better than lunch, and i suspect the only reason i'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 has everything to do with the fact that we ordered a 35 euro prix-fixe menu and nothing to do with any lack of culinary mastery on the part of chef mariller. perhaps we will be luck enough to return to lovely lyon and this restaurant one day to find out.

Yelp
Excellent fixed menu experience. Came with my family of 12 and the staff was very accommodating. Food was very delicious and flavourful. It was a nice treat to get a lemon cake to take home, and the chef stopped by to say hello, which was appreciated by the group. One star off for strange service throughout the meal: the waiter wiped the wine bottle with his hand instead of a cloth after pouring, multiple things were dropped, inconsistent serving (at one point, about 7 people were served bread, and then it seemed like they just gave up?)
