"A sincere and authentic bouchon replete with checked tablecloths, closely packed tables and a buzzy vibe. The colourful young chef, Luc, frequently pops out to chat with guests, when he’s not conjuring up textbook recipes with consummate flair, such as pistachio sausage in brioche pastry or tablier de sapeur (offal)… 100% patriotic line-up." - Michelin Inspector

Words can’t describe my experience here! Scratch comfort food, exceptional service & great wine to complement each dish. This place captured my heart forever & I can’t wait to go back someday.

Our waiter was so nice! Loved the Lyon food. The wine was great too.

This place does not need another 5 star review but I can’t help it. Went there for lunch, alone. They asked if I wanted to sit with a stranger and I said I had no problem if my table mate was ok with it. They were and we hit it off. I am aware that people may not be interested in my serendipitous and very random conversations with a stranger at a dinner table, bit I think the atmosphere was conducive to us enjoying having unexpected company. So much so, that a couple of students at the table next to me soon joined in and then an American guy from one table over did too! Basically we took over the corner of this very small restaurant and funnily enough very little alcohol was involved 🙂. Now the food… I was delighted I got the brioche for starters and the pig cheeks for main (all recommended by the waiter), for dessert I got crème brûlée. All delicious and the best meal in Lyon for the past three days. I went for lunch and got lucky. My advice is to go early or book. I have a feeling they fill up every day lunch or dinner.

Google
Tantalizing- the only word to begin to capture the culinary experience here. We made a reservation a week in advance and were able to be seated immediately. The interior has a cozy and quaint feel. The waiter was fantastic, explained the dishes and never let our drinks empty. Each dish was so incredibly perfect. Certainly a meal to remember.

It is a true gem of local cuisine, offering an authentic experience of the region’s typical food. From the moment you enter, the charm of the tablecloths with traditional patterns creates a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere, providing an environment that feels like a welcoming home. One of the highlights of the service is the personalized attention from one of the staff members, who sits at the table with the customers to explain each dish of the day in detail. This personal touch not only demonstrates profound culinary knowledge but also a genuine dedication to offering a unique and memorable experience. Due to high demand, it is essential to make a reservation in advance to secure a spot. The restaurant’s popularity is justified by the exceptional quality of the dishes and the inviting ambiance. Among the many delights offered, the mushroom salad deserves a special mention.

Wonderful experience in all aspects. The local cuisine was delicious and reasonable value too. The mustached waiter is the most charming and helpful in Lyon. Chicken liver Pate was heavenly and worthy of wiping the plate clean. Pork spine was delectable and served with side of gratin with carrots and fennel. Lastly, don't miss the mousse au chocolat, it's sizable and intimidating to finish, but so delicious that you won't leave a spoonful behind.

Le Musée is a charming small bistro in Lyon that epitomizes the essence of French dining. Specializing in local French cuisine, the food here is out of this world amazing truly dream worthy. Reservations are a must due to its limited size, but the effort is well worth it. A highlight of the experience was the incredibly friendly waiter with a classic French moustache. His personal touch, sitting down to explain the menu with genuine warmth, made the meal even more memorable. Le Musée offers an exceptional dining experience, earning a perfect 10/10. I eagerly look forward to returning whenever I’m in Lyon.

The food is fantastic. So happy to try an authentic bouchon with the checked table clothes & elbow to elbow seating. Can be a bit tight for some but apparently this is what makes it a true Bouchon. A Bouchon is a type of restaurant in Lyon, France, that serves traditional Lyonnaise cuisine, like "salade lyonnaise,” duck pâté, sausages, coq-au-vin or roast pork. Did you know that to be a true Bouchon you have to be nationally certified by the Association for the Preservation of Lyonnais Bouchons? Réservations are a must. You cannot hurry the staff as the resto is full so be prepared for a relaxed meal. On the table you have water and Gratons (basically chicharon bituka or crunchy innards) to eat while waiting for the staff for take your order. No menu. The lovely staff comes to the table to explain the 5 starter and 5 plats (main dishes) DRINKS The wines are superb. Ask for recommendations. When in doubt get the rose because it goes with the salad and meaty mains. ENTREE or APPETIZER My husband and I shared the mushroom salad. It was a good call coz we wouldn’t have been able to finish our mains - hubs and I always split both - coz the servings are large. PLATS or MAIN DISHES I was slightly disappointed with the quenelle of pike with lobster sauce because I wasn’t expecting a fish bread pudding but I blame myself for my ignorance on what a quenelle was when I ordered. The lobster sauce was TDF. The pork cheeks were so tender and delicious. Superb! The highlight of our meal. DESSERT Though the mousse looks AMAZING, we wanted the best of both worlds. And the tarte a praline was surprisingly yummy! Tarte À la Praline & chocolate mouse The only weird thing about the restaurant is that you enter from the center where you have the trash bins and toilet. Only one toilet outside with the sink inside the restaurant. Would I recommend it? Yes! A must when in Lyon.

Yelp
Le Musee was definitely the best restaurant in Lyon in my opinion, and in fact I had probably the best dining experience in Europe here. I am not exaggerating. First the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. We were all super impressed by the gentleman in charge at the restaurant, who possessed a clever sense of humor and was full of wit. He even gave us a tour of the castle in which the restaurant is located. The food was wonderful, and we visited here again the next day just to try everything on the menu and to have the chance to meet with the staff again. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Lyon.

Yelp
Everything was amazing. The food was spectacular, the service was charming and funny. They brought us toys for the kids. The wine was delicious as well as the mousse, tart. The cheesecake was the fluffiest I've ever had. Try the mushroom salad, best stroganoff I've had. So creamy. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Yelp
I've been privileged to good French food for the last week while in Pairs and now Lyon and last night I got the pleasure of having my best meal yet. Not only because the food was great but because the hospitality was on point. My wife and I got lucky when we reserved a 7:30 pm table for the following night. I say this because the party to my left had to make reservations two weeks before. Either way, we got their first and got the best table and best treatment, they comp'ed an entree right off the bat. We ordered sausage, escargot and carrot soup to start and of course it was great. It was only two of us so if you are a party of two then it can be a lot of food between the entrees and the main plate. Our main plates was pig cheek and my wife had a fish soufflé and both plates came with cooked onions and carrots and potatoes au gratin and needless to see this was over the top delicious. We left just enough room for a chocolate mouse and praline pie, that was again on point. It's a rare moment when the service can outshine even the food but don't worry the food is why you come to Le Muse and the service is why you leave exceptionally satisfied that you had a true French, Lyonnaise dinning experience.

Yelp
Excellent food, even better service . Good if you speak French , but even if you don't they will do their best to explain the menu and serve you the best possible way. Very affordable too. Strongly recommend !

Yelp
Looking for some traditional Lyonnaise comfort food? Look no further. Lyonnaise cuisine doesn't get anymore homely or authentic than it does at Le Musée. I only had one evening to spend in Lyon and I did not want to waste my dining experience on anything that I could find in any other part of France. So, I did my research and stumbled upon Le Musée. All the pictures you see people post on Yelp are pretty much true-to-form. I ordered stewed veal, mushroom salad, and Praline tart. It was all so amazingly humble and comforting. Hit the spot. I wanted so badly to order another portion to bring back to my sister so she could try but this little hole-in-the-wall/ Mom & Pop restaurant seemed so authentic that I doubt they'd have any takeaway containers. I was a solo diner without reservations which is the only reason they were able to squeeze me in on a small little table with another solo diner. It was very much so a "Take it or leave it" offer. So, I took it. And boy, was it worth it. Definitely, make reservations. Especially, if you're a party of 2 or more. Menu items are seasonal and per availability. I will have to come back and try their bone marrow.

Keith K.

Yelp
Excellent food but make reservations way ahead. I recommend the bone marrow and pig cheeks

Yelp
Fantastic bouchon! It's very casual and intimate. The proprietor comes out and takes your order after explaining the menu. He speaks limited English but is very very friendly. The lamb tongue starter (4/5) - tongue was surprisingly bland but had an interesting texture. The accompanying mustard mixture was very flavorful. Lyonnaise sausage in bread (5/5) - an elevated pigs in a blanket with side salad is a local classic well done here Pike fish with lobster sauce (4/5) - something I had to try once as it is the dish of Lyon. Very flavorful with the lobster sauce. The texture and consistency of the fish (made into a dumpling of sort or "fish soufflé") is interesting though I wouldn't necessarily get this very often Cheeks (5/5) - I think it was beef but whatever it was... It was amazing! They have very good but cheap tabke wine as well. I'd happily return here. Value and flavor was off the chart.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite meals! We got the last 2 open seats at lunch (make a reservation!) and we were the only 2 Americans (good sign!) We were hosted like family and sat with us to make sure our order would be the best. I got a salad with warm mushrooms, so so good! And the fish Quenelle with lobster bisque sauce, one of the best savory meals I've ever had! My husband got the rabbit pate then the beef cheek and loved it. After a cafe they insisted we had a "on the house" grape' we left so full, and oh so happy!

Yelp
Great first lunch in Lyon! Friendly owner, seated next to helpful locals and great food!

Loris K.

Yelp
Very great and authentic restaurant. They don't have any kind of menu, the cook just came to us and started to say what they were offering. As soon as he figured out that my French isn't the best, he asked me where we were from and he started to talk something in between German, French, Italian and English which was really fun to listen to. The food was great and also very fresh. If you're up to something very unusual I suggest you eat the brain of a pig, which they really serve there. It seems to be very popular among the guests going in and out at this resto. The only bummer for me was that if you go in twos or threes, you're likely to sit next to complete strangers since the tables are all next to each other. Therefore private conversations are not possible without other people listening as well. Overall it was a great experience and I'd go there anytime again.

Yelp
The People of Lyon are FAR more friendly here than Paris! They are actually helpful when we appear (looks aren't deceiving) totally lost! We got seated (a bit tightly) close to this (slightly) older couple in the "Hole in the Wall" we chose for lunch yesterday. The seating is mostly "bench-style", but still with chairs with multiple tables placed together to maximize capacity if not entry and exit. We were literally seated dead center in the middle of the room/restaurant. When we were finished, we had to (we did Not mind) wait a bit for those around me to sufficiently clear in order to leave. Refer to to liquor below. Apparently this is a Local lunch crowd hangout. Everyone seemed to know each other...then there was us! I was (having just come from Paris, and being American - they don't seem to hate us in Lyon - Americans nor Asians) skeptical of the seating at first because I was clearly going to be blocked in tightly. BUT...this restaurant had a "daily menu" which the non-English-speaking Owner comes and explains to you. Even this system of how orders were taken had to be explained to us by our sincerely helpful and warmly friendly neighbors. They took us through the menu selections with the Owner, as it turned out, while they were having their order taken too. The food was great. The atmosphere was very neighborly. Obvious businessmen & women tightly packed in with probable retirees...and a couple of foreigners - us. At the end, the owner brought around, poured us a bit (and left it on our table) a big bottle of what turned out to be a grape-based, 47% alcohol (94 proof! Definitely not for the young!), liquor that tasted like scotch to my uneducated palate & surprised (stunned) nose. See photos. It was surprisingly smooth but Strong! Gratis in France??!! We were going to return there today, but the couple suggested another place close-by for variety. (They are friends of the Owner...hope he doesn't have this translated!), but apparently were justifiably proud of their city and wanted us to experience it. This was just one of many instances of helpful friendly people that we encountered in Lyon. Just so happens to be related to my review for Yelp. If you come to France (our first time), you owe it to yourself to include the REAL France with a casual gastronomic delight like Lyon!

Greg S.

Yelp
This was a evening to remember for years. Such a secret for foreigner. My wife and I had the best night ever new friendships made with other patrons. Owner and staff amazing. Food was incredible. Must try when in Lyon.

David G.

Yelp
If you crave all of the arrogance that can kill the French experience, this place is for you. If you are American, think again. A frequent traveler and aficionado of James Beard award winning restaurants, we thought we'd give this a whirl. Our children were too young our accents too American to sit in the empty restaurant and eat. Maybe they were skulking from France's early departure or maybe the are just too bigoted to seat a gentleman, his wife and two daughters. In any event-/ don't plan on this one. Go elsewhere. Don't let the rankings in family friendly google reviews fool you. Familism, like racism and classism is awful.

Andrew H.

Yelp
Get the pork/beef cheek and the bread with sausage baked into it. The soup was also good. The Leffe beer was not as good as it usually is in bottles. The baked apple with caramel dessert was transcendent.

Ads D.

Yelp
Not bad. I have been to a lot of bouchons. This time I ordered the veal in sauce and the escargots and tripe soup. All three were pretty good but the sauces were not the best I have had in a Lyon. The cote du Rhone wine by the pot was definitely above average for Lyon and very reasonably priced. The tart praline and coffee was pretty good too.

J R.

Yelp
This place? Wow. A traditional bouchon, vouched and Michelin-recommended. Also, fabulous. The owner runs down the day's dishes with you after you're seated - he doesn't speak much English, but will happily and cheerfully pantomime his way through his daily delicacies with you. The food is delicious - French cuisine that puts the class in classic. The other patrons we sat near chatted and joked with the owner and asked if he was making their favorites that day before getting down to business. A great place to frequent and one that we shall regularly. (also some stout and tasty brandy as a finisher - mmm...)

Matt P.

Yelp
Terrific bouchon with wonderful, fun service and very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Mimi L.

Yelp
Not only do they served great food they also provide great table conversation. The owner walks around each table with a hand written menu and he goes through each dish and its description. Not only does he have a great selection of dishes but he is a funny man. Friendly, personable, and easy going. For starters we ordered a mushroom salad and a terrine. Entrees were pork cheeks and quenelle. Everything was delicious but the most memorable dishes were the terrine and quenelle. That terrine had the best flavors that danced in your mouth and made you want more. The quenelle was fluffy, warm, and surrounded by this rich cream sauce. The quenelle had a very robust flavor of seafood and I just kept eating even with a full stomach. Highly recommended!

Rudy P.

Yelp
Best meal we ever had! A small and unassuming restaurant. The chef/owner personally read us the menu choices and helped us decide - there were more choices than other bouchons we tried so this was needed. He was extremely personable and funny which added to our experience. All our choices for starters were good but the mushroom salad and pork terrine were particularly good. For main courses, we had the pork cheeks and quenelles. Both were amazing and were complemented by scalloped potatoes au gratin and green bean sides. For dessert, praline tart was not to be missed. The owner also gave a small tour of the site and its history which was fun and interesting. Without the added personal touches, our dinner was fantastic and not to be missed. With it, our family has a vacation experience to treasure and some new friends we hope to see again.

Jen C.

Yelp
The chef/owner was the walking/talking menu. What came out of the kitchen was fresh from the market that morning and was an adventure for my taste buds. Rich, rich sauces smothered hearty sanglier and my delicious salad was the perfect foil. Easily one of the best meals I've had in France was only made better with a personal tour of les traboules behind the building. I will return every time I'm in Lyon. Closed Sundays.

Adam M.

Yelp
The other reviews are so good that there is really nothing to add other than my five stars. The food was so wonderful, we ate there two times over three days, and they were the best two meals I ate over a month in France and Spain. Luc, the owner, loves what he does. The next time I visit France, I'll be heading down to Lyon even if just to eat at his bouchon. If you want to eat dinner there, make sure to have a reservation. It's a small place and there's only one seating per night. There are hidden passages under the building, used by silkworkers to transport silk without it getting wet in the damp Lyon weather, and the building is also where the first Gutenberg-syle movable type press in France was operated. The place is steeped in history. Go.

Leilani H.

Yelp
Hands down this was the best meal we had in Lyon. After the meal the chef took us on a little historical walk behind the buildings. Super nice guy, you can tell he really loves what he does!
