Le Turenne

"Modern cuisine (tomato and strawberry gazpacho with basil ice cream, or red mullet fillets with tapenade and carrot mousseline) is served in this restaurant that combines original stone walls with contemporary design. On fine days the gorgeous terrace adds to the gourmet experience." - Michelin Inspector

This restaurant features in the Michelin Guide as "good cooking" and that is true. All the dishes on the €40 menu were full of flavour and beautifully presented. The chef is certainly talented. The exterior space has tables widely spaced. We noted that a family had a brief period when wasps attacked their food. Service was attentive mostly and the dishes were all explained when served. A little slow at clearing completed dishes though. Reservation definitely recommended.

We had a truly wonderful experience at Le Turenne. Our family enjoyed both the tasting menus and the children’s menus, and every single dish was cooked to perfection. The beef and the langoustines were outstanding, while the rabbit and cod were equally delicious. From the amuse-bouche to the final course, every bite was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The service was perfect – warm, attentive, and never rushed – making the whole meal feel special from start to finish. The Chardonnay we chose paired beautifully with the menu and was an excellent recommendation. The only tiny issue was the cafe au lait at the end, the milk was curdled, but still a lovely coffee! This is a restaurant that really cares about quality, both in the kitchen and in the way it treats its guests. A flawless dining experience – we will be back!

Yelp
Beaulieu sur Dordogne is a beautiful town on the banks of the river Dordogne in SouthWest France. The Hotel Le Turenne offers a restaurant and a bistro. For lunch we selected the bistro The standard three course menu was 18 Euros and it changes daily, although there is no choice each day. This day's menu was Salade Paysanne, Boeuf en cocotte and Tarte au citron. The salade paysanne surprised me as it contained some huge prawns (shrimp) - I don't think a country 'paysanne' would usually add prawns to salad, but it was very nicely dressed and was plenty for a starter. The beef steak was nicely cooked and served in a small cast iron casserole with a tomato sauce, grilled red pepper and crushed potatoes with olive oil and parsley. It was very tasty but not hugely exciting. Finally the tarte au citron was delicious. We chose to accompany our meal with a glass of Valencay red wine, which was served at exactly the right temperature and had lovely peppery notes to it. The decor is modern and bright in the bistro, classic and classy in the restaurant, there is an outside terrace for summer dining, but we often avoid these in France now as they are usually shrouded in smoke since fumeurs are forbidden inside. The waiting staff were pleasant, friendly, discreet but maybe a little deodorant wouldn't have gone amiss!! ;-(
