Le Vivier

"In this restaurant facing the open sea, the cuisine showcases fish and seafood (of course!). With the island of Groix as a backdrop, guests could almost dip their toes in the water while the chef serves up extremely fresh fish dishes, from a menu interspersed with a few modern touches." - Michelin Inspector

Our friends had been raving about this hotel for quite a while-the location, the food, the wine, the service! We decided that instead of going to our regular destination at this time of the year-the Isles of Scilly-we would book for a few days here instead.||As we live 30 minutes from Plymouth it was easy for us to catch the overnight ferry to Roscoff which we did. 2 hours later from Roscoff, we arrived at the hotel and I would be the first to admit that I was not overly excited by the sight with which I was greeted. ||The back of the hotel does in some way remind you of a travel Lodge-a modern concrete block. However, this actually might be a good thing, as the sight which greets you as you walk into the hotel is made even more astonishing. It is as if the hotel is suspended above the sea, affording a beautiful view across the bay. Of course it goes without saying that this view was made even more beautiful by the fact that the sun was shining. ||We were given the keys to our room which was spacious, well furnished with a fridge and a safe, but the best bit of all was that it had a lovely large balcony which jutted out over the sea below! There was enough room for two recliners, a wicker sofa, 2 wicker chairs and coffee table. One of the greatest pleasures of our stay there, was opening up the curtains in the morning and being greeted by the beautiful view from the large panoramic windows .Again, I am sure this was made all the more beautiful by the fact that the sun shone throughout the whole of our stay.||The food was really good, with canapés, an amuse bouche, petit fours all complimentary As a vegetarian my only criticism would have been that there was only 1 vegetarian choice, but they made sure that I had a different meal from the one offered on the menu on the subsequent nights when we ate in there. The puddings were utterly divine, and as I tend to read a menu from the bottom up, I could not wait to try those. The Grand Marnier soufflé was to die for. We drank exceptional wines which were very reasonably priced, and had attentive and very professional service. ||All in all, an experience I am in a hurry to repeat!

In a delightful part of France, this hotel is situated on a headland at Lomener which is part of Ploemeur. There are 14 rooms and each has a sea view - and what a lovely view it is. The bedrooms vary as to their offerings. Ours was spacious with a very comfortable double bed, double opening glazed doors to the view, with a safety rail, a small but adequate shower room and a very small toilet. The restaurant is truly excellent with a wide range of options on the menu, but with a big focus on fresh local fish. Our meal was memorable and service was first class. There is free parking and a number of lovely walks along sandy beaches and around the small harbour.

We have stayed at Le Vivier and eaten in the restaurant many times. It is my favourite restaurant in France! The food is absolutely exquisite and every mouthful is a delight. The menu is good value with lots of choice and the staff are very friendly and professional. The management (Yves) is always on hand to ensure the restaurant runs smoothly since it is always full!

Nicely presented restaurant with a very pleasant and efficient service. The food was well prepared and of good quality. The desserts were delicious! All topped off with an excellent view over the bay. Would have given 5 stars but the prices maybe littlehigh for me but it couldbein line with this area.

Great friendly hotel with rooms directly above the rocky shore. Large rooms - great shower and comfy bed with patio windows opening onto the sea.||Hotel clean tidy and quite modern. Lovely breakfast! Beach in walking distance. Shops bars and restaurants in walking distance. Great place for a few days away!

Didn't stay there but enjoyed a superb meal. A good friend had his wedding reception there and was delighted with the reception and quality of service. Superb. Over several years, we've been entertained here and each time, the service has been of the highest standard and the quality of the food unsurpassed.

My second stay at Le Vivier. After my first stay it was one of my most favourite hotels in world. My colleagues all agree. A great location just outside Lorient (city centre 15 minutes drive away at rush hour, DCNS about 20 minutes). Very friendly staff (hosts/owners). A few bars nearby where you can sit watching the sea, boats, fishermen and rest of world walk by. Then the hotel restaurant (reviewed separately) is perfect - some of best food that I have ever eaten. The rooms have great sea views and the lapping waves ensure a great night's sleep. Breakfast is prepared in same restaurant and standard is superb. This is a hotel that you must stay in (bucket list place).

Good sea view, good service, refined cooking and comprehensive wine list. Hard to criticise this restaurant. ||On the other hand, prices are a bit on the high side, without reaching extortion levels.||||Certainly worth visiting again.
