There’s More to Nordic Food Than René Redzepi Restaurant Noma | Eater

"An institution older than the nation itself where head chef Tony Öhman focuses on preserving classic Finnish cuisine—pickled herring, smoked salmon, dense black rye bread, chanterelles in cream sauce, and elk prepared stewed, smoked, or dry-cured—and argues for perfecting traditional dishes so they won’t vanish; its faithful Sunday brunch is especially lauded, though the fare is not aimed at social-media gloss." - Eeva Väänänen Moore

Very nice upscale restaurant with great service and a fantastic kitchen. The food was delicious. The price is justified but on the higher end. The theme is traditional Finnish food with a bit of a modern twist. I had the overnight baked Elk and the Pie. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Very good and comfortable atmosphere.

One of my favorite restaurants in Helsinki. We often come here to celebrate family members. The place has a rich history. My grandfather used to visit this place in Viipuri before the WW2.

Great and very traditional restaurant in Helsinki. They have some awesome traditional dishes like the Cœur de filet (with lots of garlic!). The staff was very friendly and experienced. It felt like in a Kaurismäki-movie, they did not prefer to speak English but did it very well. The Sibelius monument is only a few minutes away from the restaurant, it makes sense to combine that with a visit to Lehtovaara.

Been to Lehtovaara many times, never disappoints! Pricey but worth it for authentic Finnish cuisine. Great spot for special occasions. Highly recommend

Google
A classic Finnish restaurant with good food and ok service. I give only three stars because it needs cleaner areas. The lamp just above my head had some sauce stains and between the window and heater next to the table was possible to see a big amount of dust. The service can improve.

Very nice dinner at Ravintola Lehtovaara. Were in Helsinki for one night and wanted to find a classic Finnish place for dinner. Friendly and welcoming service, fresh food, and classic vibes.

The dishes were excellent, exceeded my exceptions and I’d say worth the price tag. Also impressive this restaurant has lasted through one world war let alone two The glassroom terrace area though was uncomfortably hot, I don’t know if the inside dining area is any better but definitely could use some improvement

Without exageration, this is literally the best restaurant in Helsinki I've tried. Everything was perfect; the atmosphere, the food, the wines, the service. Their Coeur de filet provencial is an absolute must to try! Can't wait to go there again.

Yelp
Coeur de filet tai chateaubriand täällä eivät ole vielä pettäneet koskaan. Eivät myöskään toissa päivänä. Herkullisia, varsinkin coeur de filet.

Yelp
Left my old review from 4 years ago below for historic comparison. Now downgraded from 5 stars to 2. Though food was still good on last visit (4 out of 5 stars), service was horrible. Very slow, even with basic drinks order, and then only half delivered. Staff needed several reminders to bring the full order. On a more general note, the service was rude, slow and really unprofessional. Really spoiled our meal to have the feeling that the staff really did not want to be there, and could not be bothered to even pretend to offer customer service. ====== This place is an old classic, having served the affluent and discerning of Helsinki for decades. The menu is a reliable rotation of well prepared, tasty European classic dishes made to feature Finnish ingredients where relevant. Everything we had on our list visit was tasty, from the freshly baked rolls, through the chanterelle soup, buckwheat blini with vendace roe, purple onion and sour cream, and a deft tournedos Rossini. Service was good and the place is a very pleasant one to spend a few hours with family and friends.
