Where to Eat Seal Meat in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This Verdun restaurant has Montreal’s widest variety of seal meat. With terrine de loup marin, rillettes de loup marin, and peperette de loup marin all available, it’s up to you to choose the preparation you prefer. Les Îles en Ville is a bright, cheery spot specializing in seafood (and is one of very few places to put a spotlight on the cuisine of the Magdalen Islands), so, seal or not, you’ll find plenty to satisfy the fishiest of appetites." - Karin Murray-Bergquist

Fantastic authentic maritime Quebec cuisine and they make everything from scratch -from the dressing to the pastries. The seafood and meat pot pies are to die for. One of our local favourites - not to be missed! They also have regular live music events!

I have never had the chance to actually visit les iles de la madeleine myself, where my grandparents grew up, but this place made me feel right at home, from the excellent service to the impeccable food, and the bright and cheerful atmosphere. I truly felt in touch with my roots for the time I visited this quaint restaurant tucked away in a small corner of Verdun, and I cannot wait to go back and maybe show my family this gem!

Yelp

Yelp
My friend Michelle and I were visiting from Maine and New Hampshire staying in a nearby Airbnb We found this restaurant our last night. We are so glad we did. The chef/ owner was so friendly arriving at our table to review the menu telling us her specialty was the fish cakes so of course, we both ordered them Delicious cakes served with a fresh salad and beets. The chef cooks all the dishes and serves them with pride and perfection. Always my favorite kind of place to support A local customer even treated us to piano and singing Oh dessert Sugar Pie Thank you Charlotte and Michelle

Yelp
if you're in the mood for a nice lobster roll, I recommend coming here! I didn't eat at the restaurant since we had ordered takeout, but the place had a cute homey island vibe and they were enforcing social distancing rules from what I saw. For those are who are still unsure about indoor dining in times of Covid, they have a small patio out back for clients who want to dine al fresco. The lobster filling was generous and served in a buttered toasted bun. For $25 it came with a fresh side salad. I've never been to les Îles de la Madeleine but it reminded me of the lobster rolls I ate in Maine. Anything that can summon vacation memories by the sea is money well spent at the moment..

Yelp
The website is being redesigned and with little info on Yelp page, it looks like the place is closed but NOT THE CASE! This is a small family run business who specializes in all types of seafood but especially the lobster from Les Îles de la Madelaine. Lobster season starts in three weeks, can't wait!!

Yelp
A little late to be posting a review, My brother and I visited at the end of march, but I just made a yelp account recently. We went to try the seal, something I had been excited about, but discovered that the seal filet wasn't available, and they had seal burgers and seal lasagna available. The reason the seal filet wasn't available was due to our timing, the seal hunt hadn't started yet, and so fresh seal meat wasn't going to be available for the next few weeks. Weren't very hungry anyway, and a little stingy on our money, so we opted to split a seal burger. It was a frozen pre-made burger patty, but you could tell it was seal due to the dark color. It was cooked all the way through, put on a sourdough (or something similar) roll, and topped with this delicious cheese from Îles de la Madeleine. Certainly an interesting experience, the flavor was very unique and all-in-all, it was a pretty good burger. The seal patty was very dense and filling, with a nice crust and still a bit juicy in the middle. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, i would definitely recommend it, and wish I had tried the lasagna. If you're just looking for a good simple burger, beef is probably better, but seal is a very nice change of pace. We liked how when sitting at the bar, you can see everything that goes on in the kitchen beyond, and watch them make food. We enjoyed their selection of interesting beers. We had a good time talking with the nice girl working there, who told us all about Îles de la Madeleine, her family, the restaurant, etc.. It was a very nice time and i would definitely go back, preferably when the seal is actually in season, and recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for interesting food/drink, friendly staff, and a unique experience.

Yelp
Went there last evening. The service was warm and friendly. The live music (some of it of local Magdalena songs) added to the great atmosphere which makes you feel like you are right over there on the Islands (or at least it's what it felt like to me who's never been there!). The food was tasty, well-cooked and well seasoned. I chose the Seal burger, which was very good indeed and worth the try if you've never had seal meat. Friends had the Pot-en-pot and the Cod galettes (which the waitress told us were the house specialties), both were also very good and fresh. We also tried their deserts: The sugar pie was very small but good, the cake was tasty and buttery and the fritter very... surprising (fried in seal fat... you can taste the seal and the sea... which for a desert isn't totally what you'd want but hey we've tried it!) As we didn't get to try some of their own local beers, we will definitely be back and try other specialties. I'd recommend it any day!
