A couple weeks ago was the first time I visited Copenhagen. When people told me that Copenhagen is a great food city, I was excited. The first night we ate at Restaurant Barr, which we had very high expectations for. It was a good meal, but did not wow us at all.
Our second night we ate at Restaurant Levi, which I had seen on a couple of YouTube videos. We also had high expectations, and our expectations were exceeded. It was an excellent meal from start to finish. Our friendly and warm waiter, Julius, definitely contributed to our enjoyment of the meal. He was very attentive and gave little suggestions that were all very good.
Every thing we ate at Levi was delicious. That’s what impressed me, there wasn’t a boring bite the whole meal. Each dish was truly enjoyable.
Lardo toast + caviar - hard to go wrong with these ingredients.
Rice cake + Mazara Prawns - I had never had this type of shrimp before. It was sweet, soft, and full of flavor.
Bao Buns + Wagyu + Salsa Verde - These reminded me of the Siopao I ate as a child. The dough was so fluffy and the filling had a sweet soy asian flavor.
Monkfish Cheeks + XO Emulsion - the best fried fish I have ever eaten. Perfectly crisp on the outside, and a delicious fatty fish on the inside.
Wagyu Striploin + Arancino + Wasabi - the star of the show. Sadly, I shared this with my husband. Looking back, we should have ordered two so we didn’t have to share. A perfect arancino, nice and crispy, and not at all greasy, covered with a thin slice of delicious wagyu. I loved the creativity of this dish. It really was the best mash up of Italian+Japanese cuisine I could ever imagine.
Maccheroni + Rabbit Ragout + Crusco Pepper - very good
The special of the day was a pasta dish with truffles on top. I think the sauce was pretty simple, but it was delicious. The texture and taste of the pasta was perfect and brought me back to our trip to Italy a few years ago.
Dessert was the pistachio ice cream, which Julius promised was the best pistachio ice cream out there. And he was right. I loved how creamy it was, and the temperature was perfect. It wasn’t ice cold. When you took a bite, you could really enjoy and taste the flavor, instead of just feeling the coldness that you normally feel when eating ice cream.
I’m so glad we dined at Levi. It was truly the best meal of our trip (and we went to London and Paris!). Thanks to Julius, the rest of the staff, and the excellent chefs for an unforgettable evening.
I predict they will get at least one Michelin star in the future. They definitely deserve it.
