"Set on the banks of the River Main in Frankfurt, this restaurant tastefully blends the classic flair of the old building in which it is housed – beautiful high stuccoed ceilings, herringbone floors – with modern minimalist design. The cuisine draws on the Lohninger family's Austrian roots as well as international influences, and the menu has been divided into two sections accordingly: "Die Heimat" (homeland) and "Die Welt" (the world). The dishes stand out for the quality of their ingredients, their finesse and intense flavours; the kitchen team led by chef-patron Mario Lohninger deliberately avoids gimmickry and places the emphasis on flavour. Their Austrian classics such as Wiener schnitzel also go down a treat. The front-of-house team is friendly, attentive and pleasantly relaxed – anything but stuffy." - Michelin Inspector

Very polite and kind staff! We ordered Wiener Schnitzel which was tasty along with its side salad and berries marmalade. They serve you pumpkin soup as a starter and slices of bread with butter. The soup was very good! As a dessert, we chose kaiserschmarrn with ice cream. It was ok. BUT as for the prices, I think the restaurant is a bit overpriced on its plates. The bottle of water was quite expensive and when one bottle was over, they kept serving you another with the relevant cost. Until you say it by yourself to stop. We shared the dessert with the other people of the group. They brought extra 4 scoops (small) of ice cream, which were charged with 7€ each. So for one dessert, we have payed 26 (dessert) + 4 scoops (28€). Too much for a dessert!

This place was a homerun. The guy welcoming at the door was extremely nice, took care of the table and got me a drink.. while the waitstaff was very attentive and explained the menu (can do a tasting or a la carte). I did the oysters, tuna sashimi and lobster with ravioli. Was outstanding. Sat on the patio and couldn’t have had better weather. 👏🏼 Great job all around, fantastic expierence

Google
Amazing restaurant with very capable service team and phantastic ambiente serving the best Austrian-themed food I have ever eaten. Especially the complexity of the food but with a well chosen balance amazed me. We had the lunch menu, the dinner menu looked even more impressive to me. Clear recommendation!

The lunch meal they offered was 38 EUR per person. This included bread, appetizer, main meal and a dessert. We had a fantastic view onto the skyline. The service of the staff was excellent very competent and friendly. The food was served quickly. The dishes where very tasty. We especially like the dessert.

So, this place was referred by a lot of German colleagues. I visited this place with my boss who was visiting from the US. We were welcomed with a cherry shot. It had a good taste. I had ravioli for the starter and it was amazing. For the main course i had schnitzel. The best schnitzel i had so far. Schnitzel was served with salad and mashed potatoes. It is a bit pricey but the portion size was great. why 3 stars.. the lady serving us was a little rude and was questioning our choice of having a beer over wine (common it was summer). Also, she did not appreciate us sharing the appetizer. Scared from her I ordered a separate main course and ofcourse i couldn't finish it and she almost scolded me :p.

@21/7/29. I can’t forget what I felt, when having lunch here at one of beautiful summer time. Taste, plating, staff’s kind service, even draft beer, everything was almost perfect. Only crazy car drivers near the restaurant made me a little annoyed, but you know actually it’s inevitable in this kind of center of big city.

Lohninger in Frankfurt offers an excellent Austrian-inspired menu, with every dish bursting with flavor and authenticity. The warm and attentive service adds to the dining experience, making it truly exceptional. A well-deserved 5/5 for both food and hospitality!

Google
4 overall but 5 for Frankfurt standards! Service was good and attentive, ambiance was good for lunch (may be too loud outside for dinner) and the food was great. A little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Yelp
This stop for a quick no-reservations lunch was pleasantly rewarded. The restaurant itself has only 16 tables inside a classic formal dining room with high ceilings, custom chandeliers, and otherwise muted decor, and additional seating on the terrace. The available lunch menu was predominantly seafood, from which I enjoyed both the monkfish and the yellowfin sashimi. Of course my servers were efficient and accommodating. I will have to return. 2024 09 06. M0.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance are excellent. We each had the lunch menu. It included a melon salad, monkfish main dish and ice cream with cream and apricots for dessert. It was the best meal we had while visiting Germany. Everything on the menu can be made gluten free. The gazpacho amuse was naturally gluten free as well. The gluten free bread was also delicious. We're going back for dinner tomorrow, and I can't wait!

Yelp
Opened in 2010 along the Main River in Frankfurt, Restaurant Lohniger suggests a culinary concept that is both "Home and World," plates referencing Chef's childhood set alongside Italian and Austrian staples with proper execution across the board. The eponymous home of Mario Lohninger, a man born in the Alps and subsequently trained by Chefs including Guy Savoy, Wolfgang Puck and David Bouley, it was during time in New York and California that the Chef took interest in the sort of fusion taking place at Danube and Spago, an influence since brought back to Germany and a setting clad in white linen. Open daily at Schweizer Strasse 1, an abundance of foot traffic made heavier by weekend street markets poised to create issues for those driving, it is with reservations suggested that diners are invited to enjoy lunch or dinner, each featuring a la carte options from sections titled "Childhood" and "New World" while evenings also suggest a seasonal tasting that can be ordered at one price or in individual courses. Starting every table with an Amuse, the air upscale but family friendly, it was after sipping chilled Cherry Soup that Lohninger's housemade Bread arrived, two slices of Focaccia and Rye each warm with the latter particularly sour and nicely highlighted by salted local Butter. Still sated from an early morning visit to Erzeugermarkt Konstablerwache, and thus focusing on items recommended by staff as well as friends, Appetizers were omitted in favor of two "Childhood" classics, the guitar-cut Pasta cooked to peerless consistency amidst good Sauce while golden Veal Schnitzel benefitted from higher quality Meat aged to tenderize plus warm Potato Salad brightened by Capers. Further displaying Puck's influence by including Asian-accented Salads, but retaining classic sensibility with Goulash as well as Cheese Ravioli, it is digging into Austria's past that most tables finish with a favorite of Franz Joseph I, the "Emperor's Mess" or Kaiserschmarrn soft and tossed with Powdered Sugar that tastes great on its own, but better with imported Apples and Cinnamon, Vanilla Ice Cream or both.

Yelp
Easily one of my top three best meals EVER and I like to eat. Everything was amazing, starting with the pumpkin soup pre-appetizer, my yellowfin tuna sashimi appetizer, cucumber potato salad, the schnitzel dinner, to the apple strudel dessert. I even liked the wine they picked out for me and I don't care for wine. It was not cheap $$$$ but you do get what you pay for here. It. Was. Amazing. Staff was pleasant, no real atmosphere to speak of... but the food oh the food. I will be having dreams of this meal in my future.

Yelp
After years I still like it. The Oxenbackengoulasch is sensational. And still the Kaiserschmarrn ranks top. I like the wine selection with a couple of great Austrian specialities. The service is lovely and the do like a private word. I tried the sloe gin tonic. Really good. The only thing I do not like is the bold price for. A bottle of water. Always good for a business meeting.

Yelp
Best Kaiserschmarren ever. A great variety of traditional Austrian dishes perfectly ccooked with highest quality ingredients. And some mostly Asian inspired modern dishes. I love it!

Yelp
Delicious!!! Had the most decadent main dish- ravioli with fois gras, lobster and artichoke. Amazing and great service and wine and atmosphere! Will return next time in Frankfurt!!

Yelp
Work perks brought me here, top-notch service (and good wine ;) kept me here, but I think it was the kaiserschmarn that sealed the deal!! The menu was a little confusing at first, but we eventually worked out they have three 'themed' menus each with several starters and mains to mix and match. So the 'childhood' menu has classics like ratatouille, whilst 'new world' stretches to dishes like sashimi. My ravioli starter was a plate of warming cheesy goodness whilst I had the rib eye steak for main, well-cooked and tasty in its simplicity. Elsewhere the green salad starter looked a bit too 'leafy' for my liking but the black cod main seemed to go down well with the other two. It's on the pricey side but full disclosure, I probably enjoyed it even more knowing I wasn't paying eek! Good for a special meal or solid choice for a business dinner as it was for us. Look out for the most awesomely shaped wine decanters I have ever seen too - I think the spout must have been over 3ft long and elephant trunk esque! Yes, I may have a slight glassware fetish... I also loved my first taste of kaiserschmarn dessert which is a thick, fluffy pancake cut up into bitesize chunks served warm with apple sauce and ice cream. Heaven on a plate and merits the 5th star just for that. Don't miss it!

Yelp
A Solid 4 star restaurant. It is my go to place when I am in Frankfurt. The ambiance is good, noise level low so you can have a decent conversation. Had the chef's menu consist of six courses: pretty large portions and could not finish all of it. The courses consisted of traditional and modern dishes, eg suckling pig, super tender meat with its crackling skin, but not super hard. Chef's menu is definitely worth the money. Their sloeberry blue gin is an amazing aperitif which I would highly recommend too. Besides the chef's menu, had their wiener schnitzel, crispy outside and juicy meat inside, thumbs up. Ended with their Kaiserschmarnn, which was definitely icing on the cake rounding off a great dining experiences here in Frankfurt. At the end of the evening had to roll out of the restaurant...

Yelp
A touch of Vienna in Sachsenhausen. Fine, upscale Austrian restaurant. Simple mixed greens opening salad was fresh & tasty with a subtle dressing to hold water to world class restaurants. The Wiener Schnitzel is to die for and every single table of maybe 14 patrons for lunch was having just that. Great wine selection, elegant atmosphere. Thumbs up from this California foodie Schnitzelhead!

Yelp
I was surprised and disappointed that the waitress who was serving and describing wine answered my questions falsely. It seemed she didn't know the answers and so she made them up as to which region the wine was from, and I caught her in the lie when I looked at the label. She didn't claim to have made a mistake, just said 'oh yes!' and ran away. I expect a higher level of competency from this price range, and a proper sommelier. The food was quite good but not exceptional from my NY standards. They could also do better about having gluten-free options. Overall, it was pleasant but I was a bit disappointed.

Yelp
We had dinner here with friends and it was outstanding. The food was fresh and expertly prepared. The service was outstanding. My wife had the goose which was tender nda moist and I had the best Weiner Schnitzel I've ever had. A great evening.

Yelp
Closed at 5PM. Should update opening time for people to come in without any surprises.

Yelp

Yelp
I had my best meal in Frankfurt so far at this restaurant, and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and (fairly) attentive. I started off with a fantastic steak tartare, then had black cod in a miso sauce for my main, followed by chocolate souffle and maple ice cream for dessert. My boyfriend started with sea scallops in a red sauce with king crab and and calamari, followed by an onion-encrusted NY strip for his main, and Kaiserschmarrn (a sort of thick pancake, cut up) with apple sauce for dessert. Their wine selection featured Austrian, German, and French wines, but almost all of the wines by the glass were Austrian. I thought our waiter did a fine job of pairing. The only thing that keeps me from giving a fifth star is really the price. The food was excellent, but I think it was a tad over-priced. However, I think that may be a reflection on the food scene in Frankfurt, as it seems like you really need to pay to get good food and good service. Frankly, I guess it all depends on what you're accustomed to.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick bite on a cold snowy Sunday afternoon. Shared a salad with my friend, and had fresh orange juice followed by coffee. Salad was very good and prices reasonable. Surprisingly the place was not very full. I was impressed with the service and plan to book the back room for a private party soon.
