Louis

"Located in a quiet street, this small restaurant has an intimate feel. After a stint at Senderens, Brittany-born chef Stéphane Pitré is at the helm in this restaurant named after his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He crafts distinctive set menus served in several courses comprising small portions (three courses for a quick lunch): trompe-l'œil egg, mirin-marinated yolk, bonito dashi, creamy infusion of emulsified smoked eel; fillet of turbot (caught by small fishing boats), pointed cabbage fondue. The food is inventive, spontaneous and attentive to market availability and seasonality. For bistro experience, head for Le Cellier and its simple, straightforward cuisine, just two houses down the street." - Michelin Inspector

Today, I visited this restaurant with my 11-year-old son and we opted for the 7-course menu. We arrived a bit early and waited outside until it was time to enter. A staff member warmly greeted us and allowed us to start our meal earlier than scheduled. They seated us at a table with a view of the kitchen, which was a delightful touch. All the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The head chef even came over to take a picture with my son and later invited him to the kitchen for another photo while cooking. As visitors from the U.S., this was such a unique and memorable experience for us. We truly enjoyed the experience of savoring each dish with both our eyes and taste buds. Every course was delicious and thoughtfully presented. Each dish felt innovative and new to us, making our first Michelin dining experience in Paris absolutely unforgettable. While I’ve read many reviews highlighting the value of the lunch menu, I would highly recommend treating yourself to the 7-course meal if you have the time. It’s an experience worth savoring and one that left us very happy.

Very elegant restaurant with a sophisticated cuisine. We got 7 course menu and a bottle of red wine. Each course started with a demonstration and a knowledge of how it was prepared, what flavours are in etc. Needless to say that all dishes were delicious with very beautiful presentation on a plate. We were recommended a very good wine (60€ per bottle) Despite small portions (which is normal for tasting menu) we were pretty full by the end of our dinner and we even skip one course. It was a memorable experience for our wedding anniversary.

The food was delicious and satisfying. We thought it would not be enough food with the 7 courses, but we were really full! The Normandy fish was cooked to perfection, and the beef was like a mini Wellington and was paired perfectly with both a mustard and beet sauce, but our favorite was the asparagus. It was blanched and then barbecued and it was firm yet tender and with a pungent smoky flavor and a dipping sauce. The desserts were plentiful and not overly sweet, ending with a dense cacao truffle. The Maitre D'/server was polite and kind. This meal was a value for Michelin star food 7 courses at 115 Euros each. Tiny restaurant that we stumbled upon. If you blink you will miss it because its in the middle of the block and not bold signage. Give Louis a try!

One of the finest dinners I have ever tasted. There was a true love affair with food that happened and I was so happy to be along for the journey. Have you ever tasted something so wonderful that looking at a picture brings back the memory? Well I have relived this meal several times and cannot wait to go back and have another adventure. If you love food you will love restaurant Louis!

There are over 100 1-star restaurants in Paris so how do you choose where to go when in town for the weekend? Price point? Of course. There are some 1-star restaurants charging 320euro pp for a tasting menu. That’s just preposterous. Dare I say egotistical bordering on narcissistic by the chef patron. Cuisine, absolutely. Proximity to hotel? To a lesser degree but if it’s walking distance it’s an absolute bonus, especially if you’re going all in with a wine flight. And of course the reviews. I’d take the latter with a pinch of salt in this day and age because we all have different palates and tastes. Restaurant Louis was my 3rd choice but since the first two were fully booked, off we popped. First impressions? Not good. It’s a tiny restaurant. The internal decor reminded me of a dodgy Indian restaurant off the Old Kent Road. I expected to see poppadoms flying around, mango chutney and flagons of ale. And the chairs. Ikea level and so uncomfortable. But don’t judge a book by its cover. The service provided by Aurelian and his much younger side kick Bastian was tremendous. So natural. So welcoming and they made every effort to make my 6 year-old soon feel at home. Chef Stephane did pop in for a moment. He took care to say hello to all the diners. Top marks. Now to the food. Two words. Vraiment superbe!!! Every course of the 7 course menu was excellent. Every ingredient on the plate had a purpose. Salt sweet sour bitter. Temperature. Texture. Umami on some occasions. There was a dalliance with the Orient in some courses, which worked very well. The standout dish was the starter of pickled daikon infused with rice wine vinegar and mirin. Salty sweet with crunch. Cockles added little pockets of umami. And there was what I assumed was a bed of sheep’s curd that added a soft yoghurt astringency that perfectly paired with the radish. It has to be one of the best starters I have ever had. So simple yet just refreshed every corner of my palate for the gastronomic tour de force we were about to embark on. Ok I’ve waxed lyrical enough. The grotto soon grows on you too. It’s all part of the charm. And the uncomfortable chairs are soon forgotten when the food is of this standard. Wine pairing was above par. Particular mention for the cider from Normandy. That was a revelation!! So much so Aurelian kept refilling my glass with it!! Sublime. I find you often leave 1-star restaurants wondering why they’ve earned such an accolade. I left this place happy and wondering when I can arrange anther dinner here in 2025.

Food wise it was a very good experience! Kitchen team did a fantastic job adding our three covers last minute, after our reservation got unfortunately lost in the system! Although service efficiency and timings where well performed, we felt there is some room for improvement in the consistency of the service. Our waiter although spoke both french and english in a very proficient level, we would constructively suggest him to follow the pace of his clients, and take his time to present the dishes in a clear and distinctive manner. The tasting menu is like life. It is a marathon, not a race! Nonetheless, value for money, I highly recommend it!

Where do I begin … this was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time ! The service was extremely friendly and inviting, the food was so so so creative and magical! The flavor combinations are so unique. Quite honestly.. I never understood when people get emotional over food but I literally shed a tear while eating the fish and I’m not really a big fish eater. There was always at least one unique element in every dish that pleasantly surprised us and we looked forward to each dish like a child waiting to open presents on Christmas Eve. I feel like I should have paid more .. it was so worth it… the ingredients and flavor combinations were so high quality and so fresh. Chef Louis and his team deserve all the recognition and I genuinely wish them to become even more successful because it was just such a wonderful place. I wish I lived in Paris now because I would eat there every week if I could. If you are in town even for just a few days, book a rsvp to this restaurant because you will not regret it. I am so happy. Merci. Thank you.

Generally disappointed. Their service is excellent. I really like the cheese course. But that's all I can accomplish. We went for the three courses lunch. The starter was genuinely below expectations. The raw turbot did not go well with the green sauce. We had beef Wellington for the main. I would say the one I made at home is way better than his. Not because I cook well, but because the choise of steak in this meal is pretty bad. Poor seasoning. Undercooked. And soaky puff. I think thyey do pay effort on the choice of mushroom. But it couldn't save the dish. Dessert was very boring. Fruit salad with purne sorbet. Just okay. As a Michelin starred restaurant, a €51 three courses lunch is quite cheap. But in my opinion it didn't hit my expectations. Of course, Michelin judges won't try the normal three courses but the tasting menu so this meal didn't fully reflect the level of the restaurant. But think about how all the tourists or food lovers booked for this restaurant when there is so many choices in Paris, they are looking for great food experience. But I couldn't see their passion on food or effort on trying to amuse us.
