I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant L’Oustalet Maianen in Maillane, France.
A truly beautiful restaurant in a charming little village—absolutely worth the detour if you’re in the area. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, even if no one was at the reception desk right away (we waited just a minute or two). Once seated, the service throughout the entire meal was genuinely kind, attentive, and warm.
We dined in the lovely inner courtyard, which is especially pleasant in summer. As for the food—it was excellent from start to finish. For starters, we tried a shortcrust tart with vegetables and goat cheese, as well as an octopus dish with vegetables—both beautifully prepared and full of flavor.
For the mains, we had the duck breast, perfectly cooked and served with seasonal vegetables, and a fish dish with a sauce that had great depth and balance. Again, both were outstanding.
Desserts were just as satisfying: one chocolate-based and one featuring fresh strawberries—light, refreshing, and a perfect end to the meal.
Don’t miss a peek inside the indoor dining rooms: they feature stunning Murano glass lamps from the Venetian region, adding an elegant touch to the already refined setting.
All in all, a wonderful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, excellent cuisine, and truly warm hospitality. Highly recommended—whether you’re staying nearby or even if it requires a short drive, it’s absolutely worth it.
