So happy to have discovered this beautiful restaurant ! what a lovely find in Colmar! The staff were amazing and incredibly helpful, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The blue crab roll was absolutely delicious, fresh and full of flavor. The plat du jour was simply stunning, with beautifully refined savours that felt both elegant and comforting at the same time. And the croque-monsieur à la truffe? A true belle découverte perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, melting inside, with that subtle, luxurious touch of truffle that elevates everything. To top it all off, it’s dog-friendly! I’ll definitely be coming back.

Very welcoming and friendly service with incredible food! Not sure how this is only 4/5 on Google as this was truly a wonderful meal with the perfect ambience for our visit to Colmar. The fries were also (unexpectedly) some of the best we’ve ever had (for real). With it being off the main tourist street it was easy to get a table that would fit our stroller next to it, we are glad we stopped in!

Overall, the experience was disappointing. Expectations were high given the prices, but both the food and the service failed to meet them. The service lacked organization, with noticeable delays, incorrect dishes, and even a mistake with the water — we ordered sparkling water but were served still water. The main courses were underwhelming. The beef steak was quite tough, the French fries were burnt, and the pepper sauce was watery and lacking depth. In general, the food was average and not reflective of the restaurant’s pricing. Additionally, the staff appeared rather casually dressed, and our cutlery was not changed between the starters and the main courses, which is a basic standard in a restaurant of this level. While there is potential, the overall experience does not justify the cost. With improvements in both service and consistency in the kitchen, this place could do much better.

Just a stone's throw from Little Venice and the Covered Market, La Maison Rouge in Colmar's historic center welcomes you to an 11th-century building. Definitely a great find, the restaurant offers good cuisine at reasonable prices, featuring fresh, local ingredients. I personally loved the eggplant caviar, as well as the eggs and salad. My wife and son chose the Bavette/Hanger steak and thoroughly enjoyed it. The contemporary twist on classic dishes makes it a must-visit in Colmar.

My wife and I were initially hesitant reading about the service but went ahead with a booking for lunch today anyway from the positive review on the food quality. Firstly, I must say the service provided was immaculate, with attentive and prompt service. Staff were friendly and definitely welcoming. I will go again just for the service I experienced today. Food was worth the visit, with a wine list worthy of mentioning. I have to apologise for the poor picture quality and the occasional impatience to dig straight into the food. I give a double thumbs up 👍 for my lovely lunch today.

We ordered two dishes that were exactly the same despite one was an entree (salmon) and the other should have been a main (a trout). I have attached pictures where you can tell that is definitely salmon and not a trout. That food tasted ok, well cooked and full of flavour however not what I ordered unfortunately

Maison Rouge is easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Alsace. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and welcoming, with a perfect blend of traditional Alsatian charm and modern touches. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, full of flavor, and clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Every dish was prepared with care. Whether you're visiting Colmar or you're a local, Maison Rouge is absolutely worth a stop. Great service, amazing food, and a lovely setting. Highly recommended!

First, the food and atmosphere were excellent and that of a Michelin Star restaurant! The portions were beautifully displayed, very flavorful and filling 💗 We ordered an appetizer, main course for us be our two kiddos, as well as drinks. The drinks were good but nothing to write home about– however the food, presentation, and patio atmosphere were all incredible! The service seemed a bit cold and we felt forgotten twice, once for over 30 minutes. That’s a long time after you finish your meal to sit there with two young kiddos waiting for someone to check water, ask about dessert, or provide our bill. Definitely not a bad experience, but wanted to share so you may know what to expect! Overall I’d go back :)

Maison Rouge is one of the few Michelin recommended restaurants that also open for lunch. The food was amazing. Every bite was so balanced and well thought out. Staff were friendly so this place is not to be missed.

I feel suspicious of how the Michelin judges rated this restaurant under Michelin Guide... Perhaps Michelin should re-select more professional judges to rate the restaurants! For anyone who wants to try this restaurant, I suggest that you should go to other restaurants nearby. Croque Jeune Homme, the taste is pretty good, but one thing that bothers me the most was the bread was so burnt... I understand that you cooked this with butter; however, as a professional chef, you should know that high heat would burnt the bread, even though you wanna aim for the crunchiness. Angus Beef Ribeye, the worst beef dish we've ever had, compare to any restaurants in France, Canada, US, & even Hong Kong! I have no idea who the hell rate this restaurant as one of the Michelin Guide restaurants?! This dish is 55€ per person. We left 1/3 of chewy tendon & overcooked beef on the brass plate & plates, which my mom & I couldn't able to eat. It's like chewing a rubber band. I can't believe I've spent 110€ on this lousy dish! Message for the chef of this restaurant, Chef Jean Kurtz, although I've learned French cooking in US & have tried many decent French restaurants. Besides a long wait for the dishes, your dishes are far worse than what I was expected! We are NOT the only customers complained to your two servers, who were ONLY busy serving a big party downstairs & ignored the rest of the customers (upstairs) in your restaurant! Compare to other restaurants who are serving dinner on a Wednesday evening, your restaurant wasn't as packed or busy as other restaurants. It's a shame that your culinary skills seemed going down the hill.

Colmar is a wonderful town. And there are countless dining options. We did some research and chose this restaurant for our first night in town. We made a reservation several weeks before. Which was a good thing, since they had to turn away several guests that night. Our English Bulldog was welcome here as well, which was very nice of them. The menu in this Michelin restaurant is compact, but has something for every taste. It's modern french cuisine I'd say. We ordered a glass of local Riesling with our starters. There was a complementary Amuse-Bouche. A kind of cream-puff, but savoury with a creamy, cheesy filling. A really tasty appetizer. For starters we chose the Galantine duck and foie gras and trout carpaccio. Both fantastic choices. Wonderful duck and foie gras (mi-cuit), matched the Riesling perfectly. And the trout (pink/orange) was better quality-wise than most salmon in any other restaurants we know. High quality, fresh, highly enjoyable. For the mains we ordered the Veal shank confit and the Milk-fed lamb shoulder. Both excellent dishes. A bottle of red with that . I know duck confit, but veal confit (72 hours) was new to me. What a tender, juicy piece of meat. Actually: Piece of art! And the sauce...heaven! Confit is something you need to try. And this place here would be perfect for that. But also the lamb was wonderful. Equally tender, very smooth and with a rich sauce. You wouldn't even know it's lamb taste-wise, it was just perfect. There wasn't any room for desserts after this rich meal. A really fantastic dinner in a wonderful restaurant with a classic and cosy setting. It was pretty packed, so the staff was pretty busy. But they were quick and attentive, just didn't really have time for a quick chat or so. Price-wise it was fair. Around 150 Euros for two glasses of white, a bottle of red, two starters and two mains. For this quality? I would actually even say more than fair. A great place.

Went through a great deal of reviews to find just the right place - and boy, did we strike gold! As with every restaurant I endeavor patronize for the first time, I studied the menu very carefully and sifted through all the other details. GOOD IDEA TO MAKE A RESERVATION because they were pretty crowded on a Tuesday night! At our table of five (5), we had escargot, tart flambées, onion tart, ham on the bone, creme brulee, sorbet and chocolate mousse. And, of course, wine. EVERYTHING was delicious and the menu was even in English. Although, if you have the Google Translate app, that can help too, with some "guessing". You don't want to be in a hurry for your food because it tastes like each dish was made with great care and love. The decor was German and French, tempting me to want to grab a mug and wave it back and forth, singing and native folk song. I truly fell in love with this place. I hope to be back again soon.

We had a great time here. It is a very nice cozy atmosphere with french and German influences. We came for lunch so the crowd wasn't too bad and without a reservation. The staff were very nice and accommodating. We started off with a Tarte Flambe. It was so good. It had a light mustard on it which made for a very nice flavor that helps with the cheese and onions. I had the ham on the bone. It was so good I practically sucked the bone dry. The meat melted off of the bone. The potatoes that came with it, was delicious. My husband had the beef tar tare and it had a great flavor. For dessert I tried the Praline Ice cream. They make all of their ice cream homemade. It was glorious!

Maison Rouge is a great place to go for a very wide variety of traditional Alsatian specialties. It is a large and very busy place, with typical winstub decor on multiple floors. It always seems to be very lively and full of happy people, including many families and larger groups. When you come in the door, one of the first things you see is a large ham roasting on a spit. It looks irresistable, and it is delicious, tender with good meaty flavor and not overly salty. I also sampled the onion tart and choucroute garni, both very well done. All in all, a great place to go for a very comfortable, convivial and tasty traditional meal.

Was on vacation to Colmar with the family and even though we didn't have a resie, they accommodated us with a table on the sidewalk under the canopy. And a good thing because it poured about 10 minutes after we sat down. Nice atmosphere and pretty good food.

We literally just stumbled upon this place for a glass of wine and tarte flambee. It was so cozy, everyone was so welcoming and friendly and there was this fantastic roasting ham in center of the restaurant, so we ordered more food and had an unexpectedly fantastic meal.

Had the sirloin steak... awesome. The ham was ok, nothing special. The wait staff was really good. The desserts were incredible.

Try the bibalaskass with ham on the bone! The crispy pork is amazing! And I now understand the beauty of French mustard! We sat outside and loved it!

Overall a good deal. Great location at the edge of la petite venise. Restaurant interior decor homey and warm (no outside terrace). Daily formule at 10.95 euros was a bargain (even if the risotto was a bit gummy). My cordon bleu was quite good and came with frites and a small salad, more than enough for a meal. House wine fairly priced and better than most. One very happy note: forgetting house wines, one can frequently find very nice Alsatian bottles at 25 euros in local restaurants, far cheaper than our stateside experiences.

Great food and helpful service with a well-written English menu automatically offered on having heard me speaking English to my friend. The entrance to this restaurant is decorated by geraniums in planters, blooming, alternating white and red. Above the door, a lit sign proclaims that they have "TARTES FLAMBÉES." On first stepping inside, one sees pork roasting on a constantly attended rotisserie, where it was regularly basted! (see photo) The table was nicely set, with water glasses, and hock glasses. (see photo) Initially, to drink I ordered two amber-brown ales made locally in the city, called Automne de Colmar. I tried to find out something more about the beer online, but didn't have any luck. Even later, from my laptop, no luck. We began with a foie gras of duck, with geléed pinot gris wine, a small salad, shredded carrots and beets, and walnuts with apples. (see photo) It was spectacular, and priced very reasonably to an American mind. Continued with escargots, [snails] in a rich sauce of (perhaps) butter with parsley and garlic - delicious! (see photo) Some nice toast also accompanied the snails. They also served a small bowl of pretzels, but these were nothing special whatever, could've come from a bag in an American grocery store. The mustard, on the other hand, was sharp and most excellent! I had Veal Cordon Bleu with Munster cheese, local ham, and what Americans would call french fries, though these were a nice rustic cut. (see photo) Munster (in this case) is a strong tasting, soft cheese made from milk from the Vosges, between Alsace and Franche-Comté, in France. This was very good, indeed, with mild but excellent flavor. By the way, for further drinking, I'd ordered a half bottle of 2015 Gewurztraminer from Edmond Rentz. It was very fruity and fragrant and everything you'd hope for from the quality level it represented. My dining companion had "Coucroute garnie," sauerkraut with sausages and meat and ham and bacon and potatoes and deliciousness! He said it's the best kraut he's ever eaten! (see photos) It was served from a hot metal dish set upon a platform with burning candles beneath. These Alsatians really know how to eat! Our seats were hand-carved, with images of people on the backs. Faces with carefully carved garb; clearly something local, and well done. All of the food was very well prepared, nicely served, very flavorful, and in generous and appropriate quantity. The Choucroute Garnie might have served two adults with light appetites. Quality, flavor, good attentive service, and good value for my Euros, this restaurant very much deserves a full five points. I recommend it to you, especially if you like to enjoy LOCAL flavor when you travel a great distance from home. Our hotel had tried to send us to some "classically" French restaurants, but why go all the way to Alsace and then eat Parisian food?

Wandering around Colmar and the routes des vins sampling the beautiful white wines (mostly KILLER Rieslings) of the Alsace would be enough if all you had was bread and cheese. Then up pops this place on a rainy night stroll in the main section of Colmar. After an agonizing review of the menu (don't fret, there was Riesling) we went for the fondue. This is NOT your Horst Mager's Rheinlander fondue. No, no, no! Cooking your own meat, choosing from several sauces, and vegetables to enrich the meal was a special treat. All in all a great meal. Make reservations to assure seating, and be ready for a long, lovely repast. The only thing keeping this spot from 5 stars was the Germanic feel of the place. Yeah, you're right, you can kick a stone into the Rhine. Okay 4.5!

Very friendly service, not like most French restaurants. The food was also great. We were also greeted by a very nice cat during dinner. Overall, a great recommendation.

Terrible, awful, dismal. ...grease laden sloppy vegetables...top menu item steak overdone and tasteless...children's steak a simple dry overcooked burger patty...house wine skunky and bitter... Service non-existent (well beyond the "we're in France" patience piece...I've had great service in France...). I sent back the wine and steak, they insisted on charging for the steak. I suppose they knew I was a tourist, so who cares, right?

I really enjoyed my visit to this restaurant. The food was very good and the ambiance was authentic Alsace. The service was okay... The servers were friendly, but it took almost 30 minutes to get our bill after we asked for it.
