Restaurant Méchant Boeuf

We wanted to have dinner as part of Happening Gourmand - 3 courses for $49. The appetizers and the main were very delicious. As appetizers we had spinach soup and heart of palm tartar. Both were tasty but spinach soup was on the spicier side if you are sensitive. We both got steak and fries as main. Steak was cooked to perfection. It was tender and easy to eat. I am not big on sauces so I preferred having the meat only with butter. For desserts we had one of each. I would say desserts are not on the same level as appetizers and main. The brownie was dry and not warm. Profiteroles felt like they waited in the fridge before served. I would probably order an extra appetizer and skip the dessert next time. We also had the Feeling Fresh cocktail without syrup and it was so refreshing! I highly recommend. The ambiance was very nice. We loved the lights and table lamps on each table. The staff was friendly and service was very fast. We didn’t have long pauses in between the courses which I appreciate. Overall, I will definitely go back to try other things on the menu. All our orders were cooked to perfection, and every bite was so savory. The sauce that our waitress recommended for our steak was amazingly delicious. Me and my husband we're there celebrating our anniversary, They offered us two glasses of prosecco, but we had to say no because we didn't want to mix our alcohol so they offered us our dessert instead, that was nice of them to do that. Definitely recommend the place and would go back for many more.

It’s Happening Gourmand month, on a Saturday night, the place is packed. We could not be served in the beginning by our waitress, the busboy took care of us. He was very amiable. Post orders, it took very long time to get any of our dishes. When the waitress took over after the first service, the service dropped a little notch down. Appetizer: garlic spinach soup 5/5, cod fritters 4/5 (more potatoes than fish). Main dishes: lobster risotto: 1/5 (unevenly cooked, after taste had sand feeling), steak and fries: 3/5 (unevenly seasoned, one side more salty) desert: brookie and profiteroles:5/5. Overall the experience was average.

Quality steak restaurant in Old Montreal. Great steaks cooked perfectly along with a lovely bottle of red wine. We finished off with liquor coffees. Well looked after by staff, highly recommended.

This was our first taste of Montreal and for me did not disappoint. It was a simple Caesar salad that won me over with perfect balance and taste. My partner was less impressed with her French onion soup. The capaccio was okay but not amazing but all in enough we want to give it another try. Service was good. We went back a second time and had the beef fillet and pork chop. The former was excellent but the latter was dry and weirdly deep fried. Same dessert as.the first time the key lime pie and it was the best dessert I have ever tasted. We came back for Christmas dinner and did the tasting course. Service was amazing and the food was still solidly value for money and tasty.

So much potential and yet such a disappointment. I rarely write negative reviews but this experience was unfortunately quite deserving of one. The establishment and atmosphere are lovely, so we were expecting a great food experience to go with it. As you can see from the pictures, the presentation was gorgeous. But I was thoroughly shocked at how tough my steak was when cutting into it. To top it off, although it looked perfectly cooked at medium rare, it ended up tasting and feeling like it was well done. The potato puree was like a heavy glue and for some reason, was served on top of most of the vegetables. It's only after taking a few bites that I noticed I had more vegetables on my plate. My partner's steak was a little more tender but thoroughly flavorless. The best part of the meal was the oysters. They were perfect. But really, what topped it all off was the disappointingly bad service provided by Emilie. It started off well enough, but when I politely asked for an extra minute to decide what to pick, this seemed to have made her mad. She threw up her hands and walked away. My partner and I looked at each other, quite confused as to why that didn't go over well. The rest of the "service" was a combination of almost non existent and cold. Considering we were about to pay over $200 for a bad food experience, this really made me angry. Sadly, I definitely can't recommend Le Méchant Boeuf.

My mother and I came here from the US for my 31st birthday and stumbled upon this great steak house ! Jerome was our server and he was amazing! the mashed potatoes came out a little cold and he accommodated us with a fresh batch with a little extra something on top, an egg yolk! it was delish and if we ever come back to visit canada we will definitely be coming back here. thank you Mechant Boeuf and thank you Jerome!

Stopped in here for dinner on a cold rainy night and had a fabulous meal! Delicious salmon and the other member of my party had an excellent steak. The atmosphere was wonderful and service was good. There were plenty of great menu options. My only regret is that I did not get a chance to return to the restaurant during my visit.
