If you find yourself in Bordeaux, do not miss the exceptional experience that is Mets Mots. As a Californian visiting Bordeaux, I was immediately struck by the warm, welcoming hospitality that made us feel like family from the moment we entered. The restaurant is run by a trio of extraordinary individuals—a dynamic duo front of house and a talented chef holding down the kitchen solo—each playing their part to perfection and ensuring that the evening flowed seamlessly. Despite a busy night of reservations, the team was able to accommodate many more walk-ins without an appointment on a busy night. The ambiance, intimate yet lively, made for an inviting setting to enjoy the exceptional meal that followed. As the only non-French guests in the restaurant, we were treated with such genuine care and enthusiasm, a true testament to the hospitality that permeates this charming establishment. The dining concept here is refreshingly different from the typical French meal. Rather than a traditional multi-course affair, you are encouraged to order a variety of à la carte dishes to share, allowing for a fun, communal experience. Each dish was a revelation. We began with the perfectly crispy garlic potato croquette, followed by a stunning leek dish that was an unexpected combination of delicate textures and bold flavors. The lamb gratin was rich and comforting, while the scallop carpaccio offered a surprising depth and contrast in both flavor and texture. The beef crudo that rounded out our meal was a delicate masterpiece, perfectly balancing freshness and richness. As for dessert, the parsnip crisp with vanilla custard- light, airy, and delightful. It was the perfect way to close a truly memorable meal with an amazing shot of espresso. For both visitors to Bordeaux and locals alike, Mets Mots is a must-visit. If I lived here, I would no doubt dine there weekly. This restaurant not only delivers exceptional food, but also a uniquely warm and personal experience that will stay with you long after your meal is over. I expected a bit more in terms of flavours, due to the inspired and promising menu but could not find that something special. Generally everything was a bit low on salt. I loved the chickpeas salad and the mackerel. The service is fantastic. The cosy atmosphere helps you enjoy a glass (or bottle) of wine or two from the very good wine list. Worth a visit.

The set lunch menu is an excellent bargain of high-quality cooking that is both reflective of local traditions and ingredients and looking outside for inspirations. Service is attentive yet casual, matching the ambiance of the restaurant. All in all, a great choice worthy of the (tiny) detour from the city center.

This was probably the best lunch I've had in Bordeaux. Excellent food, relaxed atmosphere and the desserts are top notch!

I had a delicious lunch of a galette with zucchini and cheese, seabass with potatoes and vegetables and a cheese board. The white wines available by the glass were described by the sommellier and I was able to choose wines that went well with the food.

In terms of creativity, the chef aims high with simple, but quality ingredients, often delivering unusual and tasty dishes ( chickpea salad!). some dishes need a bit more thought still… (croque canard). Worth a try though. Suggestion for the staff: if you go for a food sharing concept, make sure everyone has a plate and provide spoons to share.

Tasting menu was very enjoyable, sommelier was helpful in choosing the wine and overall we had a great experience at Mets Mots! Not giving 5 stars because we thought the pricing was around 10/15% higher than what it should be at - comparing it to like restaurants. (only an opinion)
