Michel Sarran

"As Michel Sarran puts it, "this is more of a house than a restaurant", where guests are invited to take the time to eat and enjoy the moment in one of two dining rooms – a modern space on the ground floor and a more hushed and elegant ambiance on the first floor. Originally from the Gers département, the chef divided his time between the South-West and the Mediterranean before settling in Toulouse, where he came to be one of the city's culinary ambassadors. With his single set menus that celebrate the region's finest produce, he creates a sun-kissed take on the cuisine of the South of France, whose spices, marinades and confits occasionally meet more far-flung influences (Maghreb, Asia, Caribbean)." - Michelin Inspector

Google
I want to give this restaurant the highest score as they are just so good at what they're doing. Food was overall very very good with some exceptional dishes in the total meal. The fish specifically was just incredible. Probably best I've had. Service is impeccable they are very good at what they do. It was shown specifically on us because we had many requests and allergy notes that were all noted and taken care of gracefully during the meal, before and after. We thank the team of the restaurant very much for being so welcoming, understanding and caring even though our many requests. We've had a wonderful time and would totally like to recommend the restaurant if you are thinking about it, definitely try it out!

Fantastic. Attention to every detail. The staff were knowledgeable and professional. A delightful recommendation on a wine I would never have tried otherwise. Merci.

My first meal in Toulouse and I picked this 1 Michelin star restaurant to try. Thankfully I booked it quite last minute as it was a last minute trip and I managed to get a table. The location is on a quiet street near the university but I managed to find it. Managed to arrived a little early and was able to enter the restaurant to get to my seat. The staff there not many were able to speak English so there was one who could speak quite good English and he was the main server to my table for the night. Since I wanted to do a degustation menu for dinner, there were 2 types of menus available. I decided to go ahead with the surprise menu as I wanted to surprise myself and see what the chef would come up with. Throughout the meal, I didn't have the menu and only knew what was in the dish when it was served. Most of the dishes were seafood based which I liked, and some of the dishes were surprising as I have never tried the combination of ingredients before. It was quite refreshing and unique to me that these combination could complement so well and great job to the chef. A truly good meal and nothing to fault about, its 1 star Michelin and yet it doesn't burn a hole in the pocket. Before I left at the door I actually met the chef and got a handshake. A nice way to end the meal and kudos to the entire team!

Amazing experience! I thought it was over rated being it’s a celebrity chef owned restaurant but in fact, it’s reasonably priced for lunch at 75€ for amuse bouche, aperitif, entree, plat, desserts, coffee and inclusive of wine pairing. Drinks are almost never inclusive of lunch menus in haute-cuisine establishments, so this was a good deal. Plates are elevated, even if they do the twist on your favorite bacon and eggs for brunch, as we came for lunch..It was still a pleasant foodie experience. The flavor construction of the dishes are excellent! The location is good, quiet street at the back of the university area and going to Compans-Cafarelli. The car parkings available right in front by the street. Decoration is tasteful and elegant but not stuffy and pretentious. Service is impeccable, servers are professional but not stuck-up or snobbish. The hostess/host were friendly and smiling. Even Michel Sarran himself came to visit every table and I complimented him on giving such a good dining experience. He was nice. Well deserved of a Michelin star. I keep coming back!

Google
Deserves more than 1*. Way better than some other starred places (imo, completely trumps a lauded multi star that made the recent 50 best restaurants in the world list). Fantastic value for the meal + FOH + atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant to all who are visiting Toulouse. The FOH team were all very engaging with the diners, and we liked that they took the time to interact with us. We liked the bread spread - but really, plain is the only way to go to mop up all the delicious sauces accompanying the various plates. It is always welcome when the chef comes out to meet the diners. We like this so that we can thank him and compliment his food. We had the Flavours menu. All the dishes were well balanced with nice pops of flavour, and it is hard to pick favourites. The monkfish + corn cream was very (very) good: so warming, and the touches of yuzu really kept it bright rather than all-heavy, as was the black pork, and the foie gras soup. The vegie pre dessert was also interesting. We also loved the wide range of cheeses available, effectively allowing us a mini cheese tasting! Coffee was the perfect touch to complete our meal. We were so full! Thanks for a fantastic evening, The other Australians.

Disclaimer: the 4 stars are related to the expectations we have from a Star restaurant and do not have an absolute value. The food, the wine and the service are great. Compared to other restaurants of the same category we missed something. The menu is definitely creative and interesting, but next to some absolutely outstanding courses we also got a couple of dissonant notes in particular regarding the dessert. The wine advices from the sommelier for each plate were absolutely outstanding ( worth 5 stars ).

Google
Great lunch! was Highlight was the dessert and petit four. Had the duck for main course, it was tender and not over seasoned. I was slightly thrown off by the spring rolls for appetizers, they tasted good, just not what I would've expected in the middle of toulouse. Overall delicious lunch, really enjoyed the wine pairing and great value!

Google
Still the best restaurant we've ever visited. And we do travel a lot and eat in some exceptional places! This place is even more special as a, I proposed to my now wife in here, and b, the chef came to see us and my wife has got a photo with him. Absolutely stunning experience, from food to wine to service. Cannot fault it one bit and will definitely return when our little one grows up a little.

Yelp
This restaurant sets a beacon of excellence for others to follow. After some mediocre meals to follow, I decided to write a review. In short, it is well priced for the quality of food and service. It deserves its M rating with its impeccable service team and amazing plating. I chose the set menu as it felt "safe" as opposed to chef's choice. Since I had such a wonderful experience I would take the leap of faith the next time. The food was well executed, not my most amazing meal, but such a wonderful well rounded experience. The unlisted pre and post meal items were a nice touch. The assorted amuse bouche was playful and set the stage. I liked the finger bites as it did hold some surprises. The fish was perfectly prepared and I was pleasantly surprised by the accompanying Rancio soaked fruit. Thanks to the female sommelier for the explanation. The sweet herbal nutty essence played off the fish. The lamb carpaccio melted in my mouth. The roast lamb was fine but not memorable. Hats off the pastry chef who pulled off some magical illusions and was spectacular. The cheese cart made a luxurious entrance. Make sure to ask for the cherry compote. A range of cheeses with quite a few which looked like brie but was more gooey and velvety.

Yelp
My 3rd dinner (and I had one lunch at Sarran). This is a 2* restaurant, but I have enjoyed both the food and the ambience as much or more than the 3*'s I have been too. There were 3 courses + cheese + desert, and amuse bouches. The latter was quite an impressive assortment. It is difficult to adequately describe each course. I will only try to convey a sense of two items. The beef was served with a carrot and ginger sauce which was exceptional. And the desert - a light pastry with an apple tart underneath sounds sort of mundane, but was anything but. The price for the main menu for dinner is quite reasonable especially when the dollar is strong vs. the Euro, and the wines quite reasonably priced - starting under EUR 40. The main downside is that they are closed weekends and holidays and it is difficult to get a reservation.

Yelp
Wow - what a wonderful hidden gem in Toulouse! We were in the city for a couple of weeks while my partner was working, and he (naturally) had prioritized researching the best spots to eat when he came across Michel Sarran. Over lunch with his local colleagues, he had asked after Sarran to determine if it was worth the hype - a double Michelin-star restaurant is definitely a special treat, and so wanted some feedback from folks we know. To say his colleagues were excited about the idea would be an understatement - one of them was so emphatic as to insist that he would prefer to eat out at Michel Sarran a couple of times per year rather than to bother with going to any other restaurants on a more frequent basis! And with that - my boyfriend was sold. He made a surprise lunch reservation for us a couple of days later. NOTE: my boyfriend mentioned that those looking to go should try and make a reservation well in advance; it was pure luck we were able to get our lunch reservation for the same day. If you're wanting to go, try and book it as far in advance as possible. We arrived to the elegant, although unassuming restaurant front and were welcomed by the front of house staff. We were shown to our table, and were immediately greeted by our servers and offered menus, along with a small bowl of house-made puffed crisps. We opted for the 3-course set lunch menu (€60/person) and includes the starter, main and dessert, along with the house red and white wines. As there are two options for each course of the meal, my partner and I were able to try everything on the lunch menu. The service was impeccable, and the food was beautiful, meticulously executed, fresh, flavourful and just... joyful. There was so much care, attention and detail paid to every element of each dish; the kitchen is full of perfectionists who I am sure are there with tweezers placing each tiny flower petal, roe, caviar... it's wonderful. Further, we were treated to a shocking array of amuse-bouche between courses - each more intricate than the last. I won't spoil the surprise of what each of these delicious little morsels are for you, but rest assured that you will be delighted! We loved every plate (and bowl, and platter, and...) that came to the table, the serving staff were charming and ensured that our every need was attended to, including making sure our water and wine glasses never came close to being empty. We would both highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend treating yourself to Michel Sarran when in Toulouse - it's such a wonderful treat that goes beyond being a delicious meal but also a beautiful, memorable experience with your companion(s). We'll be returning to Toulouse next spring/summer, and so we're planning to book our next meal there as soon as we book our flights! Thank you again to the Michel Sarran team for such a wonderful experience, we look forward to dining with you again next year.

Yelp
We were staying near Toulouse while celebrating a special wedding anniversary, and after much (Yelp!) research, I chose this restaurant for this evening. It was a beautiful experience, a super high end dining experience but with a friendly feel to it. This still stands out to me as the perfect combination of traditional french food created and presented in a very unique, modern way. Combined with very sophisticated and discreet service quality, it was a night to remember. It also ticked all the boxes in terms of providing a romantic experience, not least because each table is lit from above, the tables are sufficiently separated from each other, and the staff know when to speak to you and when to let you enjoy the food and wine and your personal time. I unfortunately had to leave the table more than once to take calls due to a family emergency far away, but the situation was handled very nonchalantly and discreetly by the staff. On another note, that night there was no parking available, and I dropped my wife off while I circled the block many times - I didn't want to lose the reservation! Finally, I decided to double park in front of the restaurant in what was clearly not a legal spot. I spoke to the maitre'd, explained the situation, and he immediately assured me that it would be no problem, and asked if I'd be comfortable in giving him my keys in case they had to move the car. They actually did later, to a better spot that had opened up. While I don't and didn't expect this type of service, it added to the overall classiness of the way they handled everything there.

Yelp
Traditional french food done in an incredibly creative way. An amazing place that will surely impress. Worth the 2 Michelin stars and maybe more.

Yelp
Excellent! Des serveurs toujours pret a repondre a vos questions. Deux repas absolument divin. On s'attends a bien manger mais a ce point? Je n'osais meme pas l'esperer. On se sent noble et a la fois chez soi. Un moment exceptionnel. Encore merci.

Yelp
Wow! Possibly the best meal I've ever had. Ambience: Not a lot to tell from the outside but I dined in the patio out the back which was quiet, airy and had plenty of space between tables. Beautifully appointed and relaxing. Service: I've NEVER had better service. These guys represent the epitome of helpful, attentive and polite service but not in the least suggesting obsequiousness. They don't "toady" but you always feel like you are being treated like royalty (okay, so maybe not such a good choice of words for a country where they beheaded them). Their English was excellent so when I had trouble with my French in some of the more exotic items they knew the translations. Food: You can really see why they get 2 stars from Michelin. I got "Le Capitole" which is a 44Euro fixed 3 course lunch menu. Totally worth it. As I write it's a week later and the entire menu has changed, and I can't remember absolutely everything, but suffice it to say it was delicious. First there were a selection of 4 amuses bouches - unexpected as not mentioned in the menu. Each was terrific - a real stunning tour of flavors. The entree I had was a fish of some sort, while the main course was venison. Both were incredible. As was dessert. This was also highlighted with another plate of dessert amuses-bouches (one with gold leaf!). The wine accompanying the meal was delicate and a perfect choice for the flavors. Cost: You will be hard pressed to find better value for money and certainly getting never for a 2-star place. Can't speak for dinner but it was well worth the splurge as far as I was concerned. I'll go back every time I'm in Toulouse.

Yelp
being on a limited budget, we had the set lunch menu, which was an absolute steal. amazing. a main theme was duck, which the region is known for. not great for vegetarians. can't substitute a dish for greens without paying full price for the dish from the dinner menu. contemporary decor - simple colors on white. hope to make it back one day.

Yelp
Really loved this place. Very expensive but they make you feel very special. Not rushed like in New York City where you can spend a similar amount and feel rushed out the door in less than two hours. The decor is very tasteful, the wait staff unbelievably friendly, and most of all, the food is to die for. Perfect for a very special occasion.
