Best Montreal Restaurants for Takeout on Moving Day - Eater Montreal

"Nothing says moving day in Montreal more than a steaming plate of poutine — and Paulo & Suzanne in Ahuntsic is one of the best places in the city for fries and cheese curds smothered in gravy. The casse-croûte also does all-day breakfast for those who’ve been up and at it since early in the morning." - Joel Balsam

10 Places for the Best Poutine in Montréal | Condé Nast Traveler

"Open 24 hours a day, Paulo & Suzanne is a 1950s-style diner located in Montreal's north-end Cartierville neighborhood. Whether you order takeaway or enjoy table service in the retro 1950s-style room or on the summer terrace, this is a great place to experience an old-school hit of classic Montreal. There's no booze, but a robust breakfast and poutine menu offers everything from meat-and-gravy Italian poutine to a "La Philly Bomb" poutine." - Richard Burnett

Classic poutine with smoke meat. Standard hand-cut fries, good sauce and fresh cheese. Grilled cheese Burger was very good. Well worth the price. 8.7/10

Google
I had the popcorn chicken poutine and it was definitely one of the better poutines that you can get in Quebec. The taste of the gravy was very good, the fries were done properly, I just wish that there was more cheese.

Google
I’m not usually a fan of club sandwiches, but I wanted to give it a try and listen it’s one of the best I’ve ever had The portion size was perfect I’ll definitely be coming back to try the poutine! :)

Google
Amazing poutine! Crispy fries, rich gravy, and perfectly melted cheese. Highly recommend!

Jack Abe C.

Google
When we were in a mood for a completely indulgent meal, we went out of our way to this joint to grab a juicy greasy dripping, molten cheese smashed burger, fries and poutine. After this, we felt very satiated for a good while.

Google
I recently visited Restaurant Paulo & Suzanne and tried their Poutine en Primeur Pop’n’Hot, and I have to say, it was a total flavor bomb! This isn’t your typical poutine — it’s a wild, delicious twist on the classic. The popcorn chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and paired perfectly with the gooey cheese curds and rich gravy. The jalapeños added a bold kick, giving the dish just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. And that hot mayo drizzle? It tied everything together with a creamy, spicy finish that left me wanting more. The portion was generous, and every bite was packed with flavor. If you’re into poutine with a spicy edge and love creative takes on comfort food, this dish is a must-try. Paulo & Suzanne definitely knows how to put a fun, satisfying twist on a Quebec classic!

Google
One of the best meals I've ever had. Best poutine in MTL for sure. Almost shed a tear when the waitress put the food down in front of me.

Christophe Fadainia

Google
I used to go to Paulo & Suzanne and portions were huge, lots of cheese curds, and sauce was delicious. I recently ordered a large regular poutine with extra cheese curds and now price is up, quantities are small and the quantity of cheese curds was ridiculous considering that I asked extra cheese in it. Even the taste is not the same, fries were not wow, sauce lost its unique delicious flavour. Now the taste is the same as a poutine sauce in can. In the past, it was overwhelming in term of quantity and the taste was fabulous. So sad to see great places like this having a huge drop of quantity/quality. Overall, I still recommend this place but consider picking up your poutine, maybe you will get a different outcome.

Yelp
Fries Poutine and Philly cheesesteak with pepperoni! Oh my gosh. So good. Waitress also went out of her way to talk with me in English after a simple bon jour!

Yelp
I wanted to taste their poutines cause lots of people say they're excellent. I wasn't disappointed as i tried their BBO ( ground meat, onion, baco. and peper sauce) was excellent. Remjnds ne of Chez Morasse in Rouyn-Noranda

Yelp
Un testo bien sympathique avec un grand choix de hamburger Jai bien aimé ils ont rien a envier au autres. Excellent service

Yelp
Best poutine in all of Montreal! Can't wait for my next trip to go back and dine at this institution!

Yelp
Best comfort food I've had in MTL The food is always on point whether you pick it up or on Uber eats They put the perfect portion of cheese curds and gravy on the poutine. Fell in love with the smoked meat grilled cheese The burgers are all so good, always having trouble deciding which one to get. The staff has always been super nice. Definitely the place to go to satisfy your comfort food cravings
google avatar

Justine S.

Yelp
Really great greasy comfort food. I've tried their poutine and their club sandwich and both have just been excellent. It really hits the spot when you're in the mood to watch a movie marathon and eat enough to put you into a food coma.

Yelp
Heard this was the place to go for late night poutine... and so I made the journey. First thing to know. If you just walk in... the place riiiiight up front is for to go orders. If you're going to sit inside, just keep walking to the back and get seated. Second thing to know. This is a CASH ONLY establishment. Please make sure to take enough cash to cover your meal and tip the staff (who are all super nice). We shared two plates of poutine (I honestly am 98% cheese curds and gravy at this point). One more traditional, but with smoked meat... and the other with fried chicken. Now you can call me a heretic or throw stones, but let me tell you that fried chicken poutine just hit differently. I think the fried chicken texture helps balance out some of the sogginess of the poutine. Any, I thought it was pretty good (and better than the smoked meat version). That about covers it! Definitely can see myself back here for more late night eats! Stay Cheerful ;)
google avatar

Manny B.

Yelp
If you crave Poutine late night then this is the place to be. Open 24/7 for a wide array of poutine choices and other fast food fare. Poutine heaven for poutine lovers!
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
Poutine. Such a simple meal but sometimes it's over complicated. I love this spot, it's open 24 hours and the service is always quick. I always take it out to go because the ambiance is not my scene, usually filled with young kids after a night of partying. I always go for a classic poutine with extra cheese curds! The curds are always super squeaky and the gravy is perfect. I always come here for a good poutine. I find La Banquise to be over rated. Keep Eating, Angela
google avatar

Marc M.

Yelp
Always a fun place to visit after hours. Lively and busy. Young crowd withs tons of energy. They all come for the no nonsense decor and awesome food. My doctor wouldn't approve but it's worth the sacrifice. Poutine heaven!!!! Incredible breakfasts. Friendly staff. The cook on the grill is a MACHINE!!! We're never disappointed with whatever we order.

Marcello R.

Yelp
Best poutine in the Greater Montreal Area! Great service! Small earring area but friendly!!

Yelp
I heard good things about Paulo & Suzanne so decided to drop by this place. They advertised as being open 24 hours and I sent them a Facebook message asking them if I could get anything on the menu at any time or whether it was like in some fast food restaurants where if I wanted a poutine, I needed to show up after 11:00am (or whenever they start their lunch menu). I was told that I can order anything on their menu at any time which includes getting "breakfast food" in the evening or getting a poutine in the morning. I drove there and I was lucky enough to find parking close by. I parked my car and waited outside in order to place my order as they were only letting a certain number of people inside to order at a time due to Covid-19 and social distancing requirements. I decided to order a regular sized Quebecoise poutine (Philly steak, pepperoni, fried onions & mushrooms, & pepper sauce along with of course the standard fries & cheese curds) and asked if I could get smoke meat added as an extra even if this poutine didn't come with with smoke meat. I was told that I could. After ordering, I paid (this is a cash only business) and was asked to wait outside and they would call me when my order was ready. I waited for what I would say was less than 10 minutes and I got my order. I could have eaten it outside as they had patio dining area but decided to eat it in the comfort of my home so got back into my car and drove back home. The poutine was very good. What I ordered (regular size) was enough for me and when I finished it, I was satisfied/full without being stuffed. I like that one can order a poutine during breakfast hours and get it since sometimes I want something considered a "lunch item" before 11:00am and hate being told that I need to wait until after 11:00am. As typical for my reviews of businesses that doesn't accept credit cards or debit cards (they have a generic cash ATM inside), I generally don't give 5 stars unless something extra ordinary happened but gave them 4 stars (leaning on 4.5 stars)

Paolo M.

Yelp
Deluxe hamburger was great . Traditional poutine was okay, not enough sauce . Overall good . Not omg it's the best .
google avatar

Alexandra B.

Yelp
Really homey diner that has the perfect poutine! It was so loaded and worth every penny spent. Could not finish the massive poutine... So I took it home (was only able to finish half) The Quebecois has the perfect amount of pepper to be considered slightly spicy, the gravy is not overpowering and each bite is unique and delicious! Definitely will come back here if in the area!
google avatar

Lizde S.

Yelp
Super bon! Meilleur casse croûte que j'ai goûté. Tout les plats sont delicious peu importe si vous prenez une salade ou un burger ou quoi que ce soit vous serez ravi
google avatar

Fei M.

Yelp
I've tried Paulo & Suzanne for many years. Never regret an order from this place. It's always the same taste. Even they offered various items on the menu. They can still maintain a good flavour each of them. When I I have UberEats discount, I'd order every time from this place for a good price and taste. Top of my choice is Philip Bomb or Italian Poutine

Ernest K.

Yelp
I was called a slur and physically harassed by one of the employees as they started a ritual-type circle around me and shamed me because i did not pronounce poutine right. This conundrum unfolded unpleasently as my 4 month baby watched, forever destroying his innocence. The burger gave me explosive diarrhea for several days, damaging my apartments plumbing system which caused me to be evicted and have to sell hand-jobs in an alley close to the restaurant for 8 dollars and a junior from McDonalds which also gave me explosive diarrhea. Poutine was actually pretty good 7/10
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Unreal poutine, it is definitely a must try. I ordered the regular, large size poutine to share and it was more than enough. There was definitely enough cheese curds to go around and the perfect amount of sauce. There was an interesting taste to the sauce that made it seem different than many of the other ones I've had (in a good way!). As for the French fries, it is exactly the type of fries you'd want in a poutine, crunchy but gooey! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Sehrish N.

Yelp
A staple in the Cartierville area. This is a cute 24hrs diner which is right across the hospital. They have some parking space in the back, but you can find street parking. It's quite small but there's a ton of outdoor space to sit and dine. Staff and service was great. I had oreo waffles and coffee which came upto approximately $14. The waffle were on the smaller end but were good. Despite the English creams, cookies and banana, they did not turn soggy. Definitely planning to go back there, especially for a late night craving.
google avatar

Marie-Anne P.

Yelp
Paulo et Suzanne offers copious and delicious Québec comfort food fare, such as poutines, grilled cheeses, hot dogs, burgers, and all-day breakfast for a very reasonable price. They have hands-down the best fries I've ever eaten in my life. The staff is super friendly and the decor is homely - it reminded me of an American diner without all the bling.
google avatar

Alan B.

Yelp
Amazing place and one of the few "authentic" diners in Montréal. If you're looking for cheat day food or even just want some drunk food at 3am. This is the place.
google avatar

Terry K.

Yelp
This is an amazing little place in Montreal. It is clean and the people are friendly and they serve great food. The service is great and the food is fresh and hot. I had to have poutine and I love burgers so the Poutine Burger Extreme was definitely a great choice. My first food experience in Quebec and it exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Thierry O.

Yelp
Went to visit Paolo and Suzanne again recently to try Couvre Feu Poutine. Must say, the place looks like still good energy and moving! They still have two ways to order, you wait in front door shelter or go inside but there covid capacity max. The poutine itself i.e. fries, curds, gravy was good. The was rest was not so good because w/Covid restrictions we're forced to take to go and plate has many fresh ingredients including avocado, and more expensive. Id say order anything else. But best is there specialties burgers, hotdogs, fries, poutine and Philly Bomb.
google avatar

Cat W.

Yelp
Great portion for nice price..lots of choices for poutine toppings..great taste too!! Only no exclusive parking only on the streets..that sucks..sometimes they have some burnt pieces of oil in the food too..just watch out for it and be careful!! Came here like 10x at least lol

Krikor M.

Yelp
A Montreal staple. Great late night eats open 24hrs. Fast service made on the spot so everything arrive hot. Funky and creative menu choices for poutines and Burgers.
google avatar

Raphaela D.

Yelp
best fast food in all of Montreal, staple comfort foods!! poutines, hot dogs, breakfast... it's all amazing.
google avatar

Sebastien L.

Yelp
Went there last night and it was a little charming and friendly place I took a chicken burger with an Iced tea and was simply delicious would definitely recommend this place but be warn they only accept cash and since it's a popular place there's gonna be a long line up outside
google avatar

Yelp
Just what you expect! My brother and I hyped up this places for weeks without actually going, On a random Saturday evening, we decided to actually go and test it out. Let's get more in details now. Located in the Ahunstic-Cartierville, at the edge of St-Laurent, this small restaurant is easily missed. There is a parking right behind the restaurant. Another important is that they also take cash there. The environment inside the restaurant was really cozy, and the service was great. The food itself is exactly what you expect: some good Quebecois food, which includes fries, hot-dogs, club sandwiches, poutine, etc. I went for the combo of 2 steamed hot-dogs and fries while my brother went for a poutine. I, unfortunately, did not have the chance to taste the poutine, but heard very good words from my brother. The steamers were actually good, exactly what you expect: soft bread with a sausage in the middle, with a set of condiments. The fries were also good with a generous portion. Bottomline, would definitely come back if I am craving poutine or some junk food ;)
google avatar

Sujith S.

Yelp
This is my first time giving a review for a place where I didn't even eat food. Sadly I was too hungover to eat. However, this place blew my expectations for a 24/7 restaurant. The staff was friendly, menu was extensive, picture perfect kitchen in terms of efficiency, affordable, and my friends who has food thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely will be back if in Montreal.
google avatar

Joana Z.

Yelp
Paulo & Suzanne is THE perfect place to go to after a long night out (they're open 24 hours), during the summer on their terrasse, or even during the winter for the best comfort food in the region. Their prices are very affordable, especially for the sizes of the portions they give, their service is extremely fast and efficient, even when the place is packed. The place is a family business who has been slowly growing ever since it was created. Their poutines are definitely a must-try, I always opt for the poutine called "La Zuma". They add guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes to the poutine and it tastes AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for delicious and affordable comfort food with a twist to it!
google avatar

Yvette G.

Yelp
According to me, this place serves one of the best poutines in Montreal! My favorites are poutine (any, really), the Montreal burger, and pudding chomeur. The value for money is good. Service is good, but low on staff sometimes.
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
One of the best places to satisfy your fast food cravings. I find Paulo & Suzanne is one of the best Poutine, if not the best in the Montreal area.
google avatar

Camille R.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite place to indulge. Their breakfasts are amazing. I love everything here but mostly their plain crepes wiht maple syrup. TO-DIE-FOR! I also love their poutine. I always bring my best friend from New York here because it is the aboluste best poutine you will have in Montreal. You can also have an amazing hot dog. Simple and delicious. The staff is awesome, they are very quick and on point and bilingual. 10/10 casse-croute open 24h great for anybody who has that craving!!
google avatar

Alek L.

Yelp
Hadn't been there in years, the place hasn't changed. The food was excellent as usual, and the service was very quick. The South-West chicken club sandwich is to die for. This one of the best poutines spots you will find in Montreal. The staff is super friendly and very welcoming.
google avatar

Thomas G.

Yelp
24/7- always made to order- breakfast any time of day - POUTINE any time of day!! Guys I'm not going to lie this place is the place to eat in the neighborhood! Best hotdog by far of all Casse-Croutes in Montreal, toasted or steamed, you will be delighted by this sausage. It is kind of pricey for a steamie, but still well worth it. If ever i feel like a late night snack, i find myself gravitated to this vintage diner just for these dogs. Dont even get me started about the poutine baby! My favourite montreal poutine, yes even better than Banquise. My go-to poutine is the BBO with extra Sud-Ouest sauce. BBO stands for Beef Bacon and Onions (sautéed) and the sud-ouest sauce is a god-like spicy mayo. Most importantly this poutine is made with their black pepper gravy (sauce au poivre) which is WAAAAY better than their traditional gravy. Fun Fact: 10+ years ago their traditional gravy was the bomb, however with the couple changes in ownership through the past years it has lost its reputation and lost its beefy flavour. GET THE FREAKING BLACK PEPPER GRAVY PEOPLE YOU WILL THANK ME LATER!!! Even on a normal poutine. Last but not least, the Grilled Chicken Club. This savory marinated chicken breast is grilled on a flat top made to order and is probably the best club sandwich I've ever had. Juicy chicken topped with bacon and veg, lathered with their spicy mayo and served with a healthy portion of hand cut fries (also to-die-for btw). Please give this diner a try if you haven't already stopped by and get a taste of what Cartierville has to offer. P.s. If you have room in your bellies after all this face stuffing -highly unlikely- DO order the Crêpes suprêmes. Once again you will thank me later! !!!DON'T FORGET CASH ONLY!!!

Sogol F.

Yelp
Hiii guys! I appreciate all your high quality foods! I am a big fan of your poutins and poulet grec plate!!! and also you have great staffs! LOVEEE you guyssssss keep going!!
google avatar

Viviane M.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to grab a bite to eat at any moment in the day (cause it's open 24 hours) - this is the one ! They specialize in poutine - and if you're feeling peckish or just coming down from a night on the town - a poutine from Paolo and Suzanna will hit the spot. The facility itself could be cleaner and the fact that they only take cash is slightly annoying. There's an ATM available - but hey, who likes service charges? They have a variety of North American fast foods that'll have just about anyone satisfied.
google avatar

Marc G.

Yelp
This place is like heaven on earth for people who adore poutine. Especially if you can't decide between getting a poutine or a burger. They have two kind of poutine " le diabolique " and " Burger Extreme " it's a burger inside a Poutine. The portion are huge and the price is reasonable. Both poutine in the photo are 15$ each incl tax. This place is open 24h/7, but it's a small place and only take cash. I'd recommend if you're looking for a good, fatty poutine anytime day or night!
google avatar

Gino B.

Yelp
I had never heard of this restaurant. It's right across the street from Sacré Cœur hospital and someone mentioned it to me. It's open 24 hours a day and simply surprised me and my son when dropped in for a bite. The restaurant has been open for 30 years or so and when you walk in you see the amounts of a well run diner. It's quite nostalgic with a row of stools followed by retailer table seating. The food is being cooked in plain sight and it evokes memories of old fashioned diners There are a variety of poutine dishes available with unique combinations of ingredients. The small portion is good enough but there are much bigger sizes for the poutine junkies. In addition there are combinations of hamburger and hot dog combos. The menu is varied, as they even spaghetti on the list. My son had a philly cheese steak sub with small poutine. He loved it and said it was different from the typical philly sub but yet delicious. I tried a simple cheeseburger and small poutine. It was delicious and better than most burgers I've had. The poutine gravy here is different from other poutines in Quebec. It's thicker and has a different and amazing taste that certainly is a differentiator. Probably has a secret spice or combination. The service was nothing short of excellent. You won't be disappointed if you like this type of food. One final point: they only accept cash.
google avatar

Georges C.

Yelp
Passed in front many times never stopped. Went with wife and kids coming back from somewhere right on time for lunch. Great spot, awesome selection of poutines and other elevated typical items. My wife had a Mexican poutine, the kids the standard ones and I had the hamburger poutine. They were all delicious. Hits the spot. Noticed very popular for breakfast too, had good looking meals around me.

Petros K.

Yelp
Open 24/7 this is the GO TO place (before the pandemic) Always lineups because their food is to die for. Great service, dishes and food quality. One of the best places in town for sure
google avatar

Vincent V.

Yelp
A late night grub place on Gouin near the Sacré-Coeur Hospital, it's a great diner. They serve burgers, poutine, smoked meat with the works. I mean, it is not a life changing restaurant, but it is open 24h and the food is quite good. Everyone comes here, from cab drivers, people in the neighborhood and hospital workers included. When I'm stuck, starving, late night, in the west side, I usually end up at Paulo & Suzanne for a bite. I usually order the Bacon, Beef, Onion poutine (BBO) or a poutine au poivre à l'ancienne, which comes with a pepper sauce. It hits a spot and it is enjoyably fattening. The place is quite expensive for fast food tho, you have been warned. This is why it lost 1 star.

Anna S.

Yelp
I've always liked this restaurant and it's a small neighbourhood business that I've always supported.

Yelp
Small diner type location. I irdered the southwest Club sandwich which came with fries and coleslaw. It was a good meal.
google avatar

Dano S.

Yelp
One of the best places near Laval to go to! Open 24 hours so it's great for after clubs-bars if you need to go back to Laval from Montreal, not really far. The must: Roue 66. Every poutine is unique and different but Roue 66 is my fav. They have generous portions and most of the time I don't finish it all. Make sure to have cash since they don't take cards.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
After a couple of takeouts and a satisfied stomach, I can say that Paulo & Suzanne knows how to make divine poutines. Let me tell what you should expect from this place: soft gnarly golden fries soaked in perfect gravy and semi-melting cheese curds. On top of that, if you opt for it, most vegetables topping your poutine should be soft and nicely caramelized. If you want to indulge yourself then you should try their burger in a poutine doused in Southwest sauce combo (I forgot the name of the dish.) It tastes better than it sounds even though it does sound convincingly delicious. You have artery problems? No worries, the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal is right across the street to fix you up and to prepare for your next visit to P&S. One of the great things about this place is that they're open 24/7. Instead of hitting McDonald's after a night out with friends, why not impress them with Paulo & Suzanne?
google avatar

Oliver T.

Yelp
What surprises me is that the home delivery quality has always been like I ate at the restaurant loveeeee this place
google avatar

Antonio E.

Yelp
I have been going to Paulo & Suzanne for a couple of years now and it is always good to go to a diner in the middle of the night with friends. I mainly go there for their poutines and there is a wide selection to choose from. I never had anything that was not filling and satisfying !
google avatar

Yelp
Tried the smoked meat poutine and a grilled hot dog. This poutine was far more delicious for me and the grilled hot dog was just right. I strongly recommend what I ordered and will be visiting again. Service was great and the prices was affordable.
