"When we’re in a country that’s new to us, we like to seek out a classic restaurant known for traditional food. Restaurang Pelikan is kind of like the Balthazar of Stockholm in terms of its sprawling layout. We absolutely loved the Swedish meatballs served alongside tart lingonberries and fresh pickles. If you visit, don’t skip a serving of the traditional tipple: Aquavit served straight after being chilled on a bed of crushed ice." - Coolstuff Team

This is a historic and delicious spot I visited in Stockholm. You can taste authentic Swedish meatballs here. Instead of going to the more touristy, well-known places, I highly recommend trying the meatballs here — the price difference is minimal, and the quality is worth it. Also, don’t miss the herring lakerda plate as a starter. The way they’ve turned herring into such a flavorful dish is truly impressive. One starter plate is more than enough for two people.

We usually have a wonderful experience at Pelikan, enjoying both the food and the service. However, on this occasion, our server seemed a bit disengaged, which affected the overall experience. That said, the food was still outstanding. I highly recommend trying the herring and snaps, and the pepper steak remains my favorite dish during every visit. Hopefully, the service can match the quality of the food in the future!

The Best Traditional Swedish Meatballs If you’re visiting Stockholm, one thing you absolutely must not miss is dining at this restaurant. It’s been around for a long time and specializes in serving traditional Swedish cuisine. There are many tempting dishes on the menu, but for me, the highlights were the Swedish meatballs and the mushroom-filled potato dumplings — both were absolutely delightful. Pairing the meal with a glass of local draft beer made everything even better! If you want to experience authentic Swedish food, this is definitely the place to go. The staff were very welcoming and gave excellent recommendations. Please note: it’s highly recommended to make a reservation in advance.

I would definitely recommend this place as the best option to have a proper classic traditional Swedish meal! Service is as you normally expect in such places, food is very good and portions are quite big. Atmosphere in general is very pleasant, and you can really enjoy your meal here.

Everything about dining at this restaurant was top notch from service to food and drinks. Historically relevant and definitely a place to consider for traditional Swedish food. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!

Google
Impeccable service and delicious food. Portions are absolutely generous—so much so that, despite being big eaters who usually clean our plates, we couldn’t finish everything here! The meatballs were much larger than expected, and the potato dumplings, while flavorful and well-balanced, were quite heavy. Still, it was well-prepared and satisfying. The only plate that was not to my liking was the beef tartare. The atmosphere added to the experience—full of history and charm, with a touch of class. Overall, a wonderful dining experience I’d happily recommend to anyone.

I have to start with the beautiful interior of this restaurant that gives it a special mood while dining. Food menu is wide and catering to all taste buds. I had to try the Swedish meatballs and it was super delicious. Staff are very friendly

Google
Airbnb host recommended this place when I asked about local cuisine, and it did not disappoint (the city history museum also has one of their sogns). Great food without trying to be pretentious. Wish I had more days in Stockholm cause I would be interested in coming back for one or two other main dishes.

Yelp
We came here on a cold and rainy night and felt like Pelikan was the warm hug we needed. The meatballs and cocktails really hit the spot. I distinctly remember I enjoyed the assortment of herring. As an American, we don't get much selection of herring so when in Sweden...you gotta try as much herring as possible. The way they pair it with herbs and sauces is *chefs kiss* Absolutely delightful.

Yelp
LOVE this restaurant! The staff is always so friendly, helpful and nice. The food is delicious and well priced. Solid selection of snaps and drinks. This is one of coolest beer hall and is a real cultural landmark in Sodermalm! Instagram: These meatballs are always the "talk of the town."! Pelikan's Meatballs Fried Salted Bacon Toast Skagen @Pelikan.Stockholm A place to gather, eat and drink in a hard-to-beat environment. Swedish house made since 1664! Stockholm

Yelp
Went to Pelikan for lunch and can highly recommend. Delicious food and very efficient serving. The meatballs were great but the potato dumplings were tasty too!

Yelp
Pelikan is an over 120 years old, located at 40-Blekinge-Gatan (street) in Stockholm Sweden. Pelikan's look and feel is Art Nouveau, making it a really lovely and inspired restaurant. Pelikan is one of the few good restaurants in Stockholm that still serve traditional home-style Swedish food, so I come here more than once almost every time I visit my family. So, since my first visit to Sweden in 1985 I've actually eaten here alone or with my family around seven times. Among the favorite dishes here are the: Herring Plate (4 types), Toast Skagen (Tiny Sweet Shrimp with Mayonnaise on Toast), Thick Fried 'Salted' Bacon in Onion Sauce, The Duck, Every piece of Fish here is good. Other favorites are the Saddle of Reindeer with Lingonberries, Pork Knuckle with Potato Dumplings, and of course their Kottbullar (Swedish Meatballs) with Lingonberries. This is a great place.

Yelp
We were looking for good, authentic Swedish food, and I think we hit the spot. We made a reservation for 4 people on a Wednesday at 6:30 pm, although I think we would have been able to sit even without a reservation. We started with the Toast Skagen, which was a shrimp salad that comes with toast. The salad was baby shrimp in creamy sauce with a nice dill flavor, and it's perfect with the slightly salted toast and a touch of lemon juice. We also had the cured salmon, which also came topped with dill and had a slight salt seasoning which was just right. The arctic char was cooked perfectly with a juicy interior, and came with an herb butter sauce which was tempting to eat on its own. The highlight of the meal though was the Swedish meatballs, which come with a buttery gravy and are complemented with lingonberries and pickles, making for a perfect combination of salty, sweet, and acidic. I'd say the restaurant is a bit pricey, but the portion sizes are decently big and the quality of the food is excellent. All the dishes were heavy on butter, but maybe that's just how Swedish food is. Also, our service was excellent, and our waitress was excellent with our young kids. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely come back if we're ever back in Stockholm.

Yelp
If you are looking for old time, authentic Swedish food this is your place. Our Swedish friends hadn't had many of these dishes since their childhood. And our waiter told us lots of "old guys" come in for their food. In June, it is a little warm inside but the murals and general aesthetic of the place was great. Very pleasant , warm and inviting. Our servers were very convivial, helpful and humorous. It was my favorite meal in Stockholm. Everything was delicious. The men share the set menu that had pairings of alcohol with each course. I had and highly recommend the Ox Cheek.

Yelp
I had a lovely dinner at Pelikan. The selection of herring (starter) was exquisite. Potato dumplings (main dish) were nice too. I was particularly impressed by the herring starter. There were four different varieties of cured herring; cured with sweet vinegar, herb-based (dill?) sauce, one with chopped onion, and another one that I couldn't quite identify. The potato dumplings were much much nicer done the name might convey. The dumpling skin was chewy and was different than Anything else I have taste it before. It was not quite like Italian ravioli, gnocchi, or various types of Chinese dim sum dumplings. Veggie-based filling felt quite meaty. I believe it's based on mushrooms. Spinach, mushroom, and lingonberry provided nice variety too, although the oil (butter?) that The dumplings are swimming in was a little bit much for me.

Yelp
Wonderful food and great atmosphere. Portions are perfect and it's easy to fill up on their bread. I got the BIFF RYDBERG, with a hard cider, and really enjoyed it. It was just enough for me to be full but not over stuffed. A lot of people around me got the Swedish Meatballs. I wish I had ordered those, too.

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience at Pelikan! We felt and welcomed and were treated so wonderfully by the staff.

Yelp
Loved it. We came here after seeing the menu and me just really trying to find the most original/Swedish food I could find to truly take in my whole experience of my trip. After booking a quick reservation here, I was super glad that I did! I would definitely recommend to book a reservation as this place filled up and finding a table by just walking in, is a slim chance to none especially on a weekend. Getting that out of the way lets get to what I ordered. I originally planned on coming here specifically to eat the herring. So because of that I shared the SOS which was herring 4 types of flavors. And I think that's what made that dish for me. It would go amazing on bread but also just good in general. The dinner came with complimentary bread so that was perfect to go with this appetizer. Following that we ordered two mains. The meatballs along with the reindeer. We've had meatballs before but these were big, and with the sauce just awesome. It was super flavorful and I would say the best we had during the duration of our trip. The reindeer was just like steak, super tender and flavorful with surprisingly not big gamey flavor as you would taste with deer. The meat sort of just melted in your mouth and with the cheese along with the sauce it was awesome. Overall, I would say if you're looking for authentic swedish food and want an experience in eating the culture this place is a have to go to restaurant. Some of the items here I don't think I saw on any other menu, and I would say I was super glad in coming here over what I had originally planned.

Yelp
Pelikan was a must-try on my journey to Stockholm, and it mostly lived up to my expectations! While I was very disappointed to be seated at the bar even with a reservation, the staff was kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The space itself was beautiful, covered in paintings and nice lighting. I got a cheese and herring plate paired with Aquavit, and the pig knuckle with mash. Both were magnificent, with the pig knuckle being extremely tender, fall off the bone. One of my favorite meals in Sweden.

Yelp
My sister, American girlfriend and I had lunch here the other day, the arctic char, cod, and meatballs, respectively. The fish were both good, but the meatballs and service not as much. Our server did bring a menu in English, but only interacted with us Swedes, and was hard to make any contact with, even for paying. He took drink orders for me and my sister, and then ran away before my girlfriend had even opened her mouth. The meatballs were twice the size of a meatball, and had the taste and texture of meatloaf. The ambiance of our table was sitting at an intersection of two intersecting highways in an echo chamber. Prices don't match what this establishment delivers.

Yelp
I definitely recommend eating here. It has all the must try Swedish foods (meatballs, reindeer, herring, dumplings). The complimentary bread had a hint of anise so it had a liquorice taste, which may sound weird (for a non Scandinavian), but it was really good. The meatballs were huge, super flavorful. It comes with lingonberries and pickled cucumber slices. The mashed potatoes was shared with the table. We also shared the SOS herring appetizer, which comes with 4 flavors (mustard, butter, beets, and original). My favorite was the mustard.

Yelp
For our first night in Stockholm we were looking for a classic Swedish restaurant & looking online there were obviously many to choose from so we decided on Pelikan based on all of the great reviews it has received. The second we walked in we were immediately impressed with the atmosphere & the good vibe we felt. After having a cocktail we decided we'd order an appetizer( 4 kinds of Herring ) and for the main course we got the Duck & Reindeer. Everything was excellent especially the Herring. Our server did a nice job of explaining all of our options and giving us some recommendations. The only downside to this restaurant is the tables are extremely close to each other so you won't get a lot of privacy especially when they're busy which likely is most of the time & the prices are just a bit on the high side but the atmosphere, food & service makes it all worthwhile.

Yelp
Historic building with traditional Swedish cuisine, lovely atmosphere with nice ambiance. The waiter is very knowledgeable about the food and traditions! We ate by candlelight on our last night in Stockholm! Would highly recommend. We didn't have a reservation on a Friday evening, but got seated right away.... I am a vegetarian and had some options.

Yelp
Speaking as a tourist, this restaurant is a must visit for anyone visiting Stockholm. The menu is traditional swedish, but many of the entrees and starters have broad appeal. The only downsides is they sell out of items, like the asparagus soup that I wanted to try and another dish. Also the hall is quite noisy. Finally, no one wears a mask, and to be fair that's the case here in Stockholm. So if you're squirrely about COVID you might want to try eating outside at the benches. We took the risk... Make sure you get the off menu appetizer of the shrimp ball with dill. We didn't know about this and regretted it. We came for the meatballs and the meatballs were st stellar. If you eat meat, you need to get these in your belly. The beer selection is pretty robust too, so make sure you grab a brew. Make sure you get the creme brulee for dessert, normally I don't eat it, but theirs was outstanding Service was very accommodating, and thankfully like many people here, the staff speak English very well.

Yelp
Great restaurant a few subway stops outside of the city with hearty swedish meatballs in a lively environment

Yelp
Wow the meatballs were incredible. And the vibes were immaculate. Cozy, comforting, and perfect for a rainy winter day visiting Stockholm. A friend who lives here told me this is the place the locals recommend for the best authentic Scandinavian food, and the city's best meatballs. I haven't tried any others, but damn these were GREAT

Yelp
Came for dinner with my family and we thoroughly enjoyed our first real taste of Swedish food. For our party of four we ordered to share: + 1/2 order herring sampler (I've tried Dutch raw herring before and didn't like it but I liked the mustardy pickled flavor of the herring here! The different sauces in the sampler were unique and paired great with the potatoes) + 1/2 order toast skagan (delicious shrimps! The creme fraiche and dill were great additions and tjis went great with the bread for the table) + potato pancake (I liked the roe a lot and thought the pairing of the creme fraiche + red onion tasted great with the potato and roe) + cod with shrimps, egg and horseradish (cod just melted in my mouth) + Swedish meatballs (so soft and tender, berries were such a great complement to the gravy and beautifully mashed potatoes) Ambience is nice and rustic with wood paneling and open flame candles. Overall this was a great kickoff to our first Swedish food dinner experience and I didn't have complaints about any of the dishes we tried!

Yelp
Make a reservation and go early. They get really busy around 7pm. Best meatballs I ever had

Yelp
Reindeer was exquisite. Just wish there was a little more potatoes and purée. No complaints on the service or the food! 10/10 on the food quality!

We've set out to chase Karl Ove's ghost across Stockholm. The Svensk jugend ceiling lamps, the woodwork throughout, beautify the bar.

Yelp
This is classic Swedish food, executed perfectly! The ambiance in the restaurant is beautiful--kind of reminiscent of a German pub, but more refined. Coming in for dinner one night, we were seated right away, and our kind server went over the menu with us and gave us really nice recommendations! We started our meal with the SOS herring sampler appetizer--a half order came with two pieces of four different kinds of herring: the regular herring, mustard herring, pickled herring, and cheese herring--these small pieces of fish varied in flavor but were all perfect for eating with the cracker bread on the table. My favorite dish of the night, however, was definitely the cured moose carpaccio appetizer, which our server fervently recommended. The thin slices of meat had a dark, gamey flavor unlike anything I've had before--the umami undertones were brought over the edge with the Swedish cheese and pickled mushrooms that accompanied the carpaccio! For our main course, we shared the roasted reindeer, which was extremely lean and, surprisingly for me, not particularly flavorful (definitely not gamey). The texture was extremely interesting (it felt almost like a piece of cooked liver), but most of the flavor of the dish came from the mushroom gravy and the sweet rowan berry jelly that was dolloped on the side. All of this was served with a layered potato cake, which was a great complement to the meat. Overall, Pelikan was a fantastic restaurant with really interesting Swedish dishes--this is definitely a place to visit for meats and ingredients you'd be hard-pressed to find in most other places outside Sweden!

Yelp
The best place to eat in Stockholm! Very authentic! Interior: Very classy vibe inside, but no need to look totally the part it just gives a nice setting to it. Food: Reindeer: So good! More tender than I thought it would be. I was satisfied and not too full. I'd definitely recommend it. Drinks: We had the tiered level snapps shots! It got me wasted lol so yes highly recommend! Overall: What a fun spot! I came here during the day got drunk and full and it was the start of the fun night

Yelp
Magnificent traditional Swedish cuisine in a museum quality room. * * * Pelikan is one of the oldest restaurants in Stockholm. It takes on the mantle of "Defender of the Great Traditions of Centuries Old Cuisine." Pelikan has moved multiple times, including leaving the Old City for the trendier Southern neighborhood of Sodermalm. Being out of the Old City allows Pelikan to escape the floods of tourists that swarm the Old City like locusts. Pelikan's dignity is further enhanced by a remarkable collection of nineteenth and early twentieth century Swedish realist painting. The masterpieces hang right there in the dining room. Swedish painting does not get any of the respect that is customarily attributed to Swedish modern design. But they had many painters who were quite fine. Of particular note is a massive Courbet like portrait of two fishermen in a dinghy on a choppy sea that is a powerful alternative to a traditional seascape. * * * How is the food? Absolutely superb. Swedish food follows the British model. Simple ingredients. Well prepared. Okay, with herring they go crazy all over the place. Everything else is simple and well prepared. I had a boiled pig knuckle with a selection of mustards and a side-dish of mashed rutabaga. It was an absolutely classic night of eating. The pig knuckle may be a simple dish, but it is an unusual one and one you will never see in the United States. Issue Number One: The Pig Knuckle is brined like a corned beef. Corned beef is best when it is fatty. Pork is far fattier than beef. Translation - you are getting a higher quality corned beef than you will ever get from a cow. Of course, it is much harder to boil a pig knuckle than it is to make corned beef. Corned beef. You stick it in brine. You boil it. You eat it. Boiling time is easy to figure out since you have a simple rectangular block of meat. A pig knuckle is a test of the cook's skill. It is irregular. It is filled with bone. Every knuckle has a different shape and has a different ratio of fat to meat. If either the meat or the fat is undercooked, it will be tough. If the meat is overcooked, it will be stringy and flavorless. So boiling a knuckle is a question of precise timing. Plus you assiduously have to draw off all the excess fat. Well the cooks at Pelikan have worked through all the complexities and turn out a pig knuckle whose both meat and fat are done to the peak of tenderness and flavor. And that means OH MY GOD. Putting mustard on this magnificent corned pork seemed like a crime. For a long time, I just sat bathing my senses in all of this pure pork flavor unadulterated by anything out of a jar. No Jewish or Irish corned beef comes anywhere near to what Swedish corned pork can be. However, the mustard is a lot of fun and I ended up playing quite a bit with the mustard pots as well. Keep in mind a pig's knuckle is huge. Restaurant management claims that traditionally a pig's knuckle serves three. At the restaurant, every diner who orders knuckle gets their own full knuckle. This is somewhat like serving someone who ordered roast turkey their own entire roast turkey. Quantity has never stopped Samuel C. from enjoying the great pleasures of life. It took me two and a half hours, but I consumed that entire pork knuckle from back to front leaving nothing but bare bone. Two and a half hours of contemplative worship of the Great Pork God. I believe, I believe, I believe. * * * Now technically, the pork knuckle was the SECOND best dish I had that night at Pelikan. The best dish by far was the mashed rutabagas. Swedes eat turnips and rutabagas. Americans don't. The Swedes have us completely beat on this one. They fall back on all of the good tricks associated with making good mashed potatoes. Use really good rutabagas. Use really good milk. Use vast amounts of wonderful butter. Mash to make everything light, fluffy and smooth. An old grandmother's trick is to add just a soupcon of sugar to the mashed rutabaga. They do that here. Any one who has made Cream of Wheat with butter and sugar know that combining anything hot and creamy with butter and sugar makes food for the gods. Rutabaga has an edgy enough flavor to cut through the butter AND to cut through all of that pork fat you are eating. It is a complete palate cleanser. The pork knuckle sends you to cholesterol hell. The rutabagas purge your system and take you back to vegetable piety. But they do it with butter and milk so you have a good time. Pork. Rutabaga. Pork. Rutabaga. As classic a Scandinavian contrast as Sauna. Avanto. Sauna. Avanto. * * * Pelikan is a temple of classic pleasures. All hail the GREAT GOD PIG!

Yelp
Open since 1904 and undoubtedly showing its age there are plenty of opinions about Restaurant Pelikan when discussed amongst gastronomes, some seeing it as a relic while others praise the heritage, a visit on Friday afternoon finding validity to both sides of the argument but an assessment based entirely on the Food highly favorable across six items plus complimentary Bread service. In reality an entity in Stockholm since 1664, the cellar adding a Restaurant in 1733 before relocating to its current environs at Blekingegatan 40 some 114 years ago, guests entering Restaurant Pelikan in 2018 will quickly be taken by heavy wood and pale yellow walls with paintings and sconces, each table decorated by a single burning candle and menus available in both Swedish and English. Not a place for modernity or the sort of "quick service" many crave in this era, both waitresses approaching the age of retirement and pleasant despite being in no hurry, it was with a basket of Bread dropped off and room-temperature Water poured that a list of classics was perused before choices were made, two three-course meals tallying just shy of 1000 Swedish Crowns. Dining just prior to 13h00, reservations made online proving unnecessary in a space less than 25% full, it was after a short wait during which glasses ran empty that plates of Charcuterie and tiny Shrimp in Cream Sauce arrived, the later sweet with just enough Dill and salinity to give it balance while the former was highlighted by four-year old Ham and granular Cow's Milk Cheese that reminisces of Parmesan in taste and texture. Using surprisingly good Bread and condiments including house Pickles plus candied Apricots to cleanse the palate between bites, a second Basket delivered on request in addition to more Water, it was after a shorter delay than the Appetizers that two Main Courses arrived in sizable portions, the housemade Bacon resting in a pool of pungent yet pleasant Sauce while Pelikan's world-famous Meatballs were nearly twice the size of others served in Stockholm - tender, dense and rich no matter which blend of accoutrements they were consumed with. Further impressed by both boiled and whipped Potatoes, the later almost achieving Joel Robuchon consistency, it was with plates wiped clean that they were cleared in anticipation of Dessert, the heralded house Pralines nothing more than good Chocolates while the Swedish Cheesecake featured a crumbly consistency up-front that slowly melted on the palate without much intrinsic sweetness, that aspect instead left to Raisins, Cloudberries and Ice Cream.

Yelp
This was the best food place we went to in Stockholm. There were other places that had better views and some really great dishes, but the food at Pelikan was most excellent. I had the cod. Now, we have all had the smelly and fishy tasting cod. You know the kind: the little Debbie fish cakes that are formed into a square and are made out of dry flakes. This is not that cod. This cod is moist and melts like butter in your mouth. This cod when mixed with dill, horse radish, baby shrimp and egg is heavenly. Obviously, the Swedes have been working this recipe for generations, and now they have got it down. This explains why the Swedes are so tall: they eat cod. I am 6-4 and i keep running into men and women alike that are just as tall if not taller than me. They eat cod to maximize their height: got to be the reason. I have eaten the Swedish meatballs in town twice since being here. So, I passed on the meatballs. I then thought I was going to go with the reindeer because where and when are you going to eat reindeer? Being a pescatarian, I decided to go with the cod. Not due to being a non-meat eater, but because I was not sure that my stomach could handle the shock of all the good reindeer. When traveling I eat what the local culture serves. Three reasons why: 1.) It is polite to eat what the local culture serves. Why be a jerk and ask for food they do not normally serve? 2.) I want to experience the culture, and food is a large part of the culture. 3.) You make the locals cook food that they are not used to and you are going to get sick. I highly recommend this establishment. Lots of seats, great beer and a great selection of Swedish dishes. Go for it.

Sam F.

Yelp
Wonderful traditional Swedish food in a classic setting. Service was over the top. Went with my daughter's Swedish boyfriend's family and got seal of approval from them so I'm guessing it's authentic enough and not touristy. One way or another it was a great meal with great service in a setting that seemed 50 years old (in a very good way).

Yelp
Beautiful Swedish restaurant with a lot of history. About 20 minutes walk from the old town , the restaurant is mostly local and that is a good sign the food is solid. One patron at the bar told me to try their pork knuckle and it was fantastic! The bread was also extremely fresh and I may have over indulged. Definitely coming back for their fish dishes (highly recommended as well).

Yelp
Steak tartare, reindeer, meatballs. Can't go wrong. This location I believe is almost 120 years old and has the vibe and acoustics to match. Loud, a little rough, but like a time machine. The menu is excellent as is the aquavit list. If you want classic old school Swedish in Stockholm this is a great choice.

Yelp
My friends and i were in town for a hockey game, and came here based on yelp reviews, and also recommendations from our hotel (which usualy isn't a good idea). The restaurant was located about 3 blocks from our hotel, and we had no idea what to expect. I glanced at the menu and ordered what everyone came here for.. when in Sweden, order the meatballs! The Swedish meatballs with lingonberries were huge. Not little like Ikea (ok, don't laugh that i just compared it to Ikea), but the price was also bigger than Ikea's. My meatballs, soup, and a drink came to about $27 (converted into US$). Holy cow, for meatballs?

Yelp
Amazing. Don't even debate it. I spent the next few hours worried that tomorrow's dinner wouldn't compare. The meatballs were a 9/10. The char was so fresh. The service was amazing. Great old fashion and aquavit recommendations . You can tell the staff knew their menu.

Yelp
I came here for my last meal in Stockholm after reading about it in my Lonely Planet guide book. I was able to secure a reservation online and I was glad as i had done so because it was pretty packed when I had gone there. Swedish/Scandinavian food is not exactly vegetarian friendly, so all the suggestions to try their various herrings were lost on me. However, they did offer a couple of a things: a delicious cream of asparagus soup starter and a lovely potato and mushroom dumpling dish. The presentation of the dish was beautiful and the texture was unlike any other kind of dumpling I've had, at least from any other dish from any other European cuisine. If anything, the texture of the dumplings reminded me of Korean songpyeon (a type of rice cake). As for the soup, it was absolutely delicious: light, rich, and very creamy. This place was not cheap, but the service was prompt, the atmosphere beautiful and traditional, and the food good. I'd say this place is worth a visit.

Yelp
If you are looking for a traditional Swedish meal with a great old time feel, this is the place. It was absolutely delicious! The bacon with the onion sauce was beyond scrumptious. It's a great place to eat and feel welcomed by the Swedes!

Yelp
I booked a table for 3 online weeks ago to secure the seat. My expectation on this restaurant was high. Had steak tartare as starter and roasted reindeer for the main course. I would give 4 stars for the food, taste amazing! But the service is bad. Three of us sit there, wait for a glass of water for 20mins and the dish for another 30mins. The waitress looks quite unhappy and showed no care to us. I even heard her complain during the service. We asked for another glass of water during the meal and it seemed she totally forgot that happened. We wait for the bill for another 15mins and surprisingly, she asked for a tip when we pay the bill regardless the poor service and bad attitude. I rarely give a tough comments on yelp but I sincerely hope the service can be improved to match the food there.

Yelp
Restaurant has been in service since 1700s and it hasn't changed it's attitude towards minorities since then it seems. Our server was plain racist. Flat out DISGUSTING behavior, as we watched him serve another table quite happily and when he served us he was short, disgruntled that we wanted tap water (the other table ordered tap as well), and generally unwelcoming. He happily served other tables and put down the tabs on their tables and came back for them, but when it came to another table of a colored person he stood behind the guest and waited for him to sign and pass it back. We were mortified. We thought it may have been just a coincidence but then he did the same thing to us. Hey Pelikan, your establish represents a whole Scandinavian culture, along with representing a native cuisine for the whole country. Your behavior should reflect this and I'm sure the rest of Sweden looks poorly on racism so let's not hinder humanity and wake up to 2016, okay? P.S. our waiter also disappeared for 10 minutes going out to smoke and then coming back in and smelling like cigarettes.

Yelp
The perfect spot to get your Swedish meatball fix here in Stockholm! The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and very on theme, it's nearly 300 year history certainly lends itself to authenticity. Complimentary bread and wasa was a pleasant touch and a good snack to get us to our meatballs. These were MASSIVE and came with a generous helping of mashed potatoes on the side. The potatoes were super creamy and not at all dry and only got better once you added it to the meatball sauce. Could've used more lingonberry on the side but by the end of the meal we were absolutely stuffed. The meatballs were super tender, mildly sweet, and had the right level of crispness and bite to the outside. The menu is pretty extensive with Swedish classics so if meatballs aren't your speed or you want to branch out to other things, you'll be set.

Yelp
I love Pelikan! It has this great big German beer hall feeling to it, which means it's easy to book for larger groups. (But be aware that makes your food options less flexible as they require everyone to order the same in a big group.) Eat your classics here. Meatballs, herring, potato dumplings like kroppkakor, it's all phenomenal. There are also really delicious vegetarian options, so something for most people.

Yelp
This place was amazing!!! Came here with my boyfriend for the first time. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was incredible!!! Our waiter gave us advice on food to try (first timers in Sweden), and told us about places we should see before leaving. Overall fantastic experience-- would definitely go back!!

Yelp
I wanted to go to this restaurant when I first came to Stockholm. I never had the chance until this time. I ordered "biff rydberg med senapsgräde", which literally translates to "diced and fried tenderloin, potatoes, onion, mustard cream & egg yolk". It tastes good, but I don't like the mustard :(. My friend had "friterad aborre", and I think I'll try that next time. It's really Swedish vibe here. One of the legendary restaurants in Stockholm. Must try.

Yelp
I am writing this review after I had meatballs at fjäderholmarna körg - but I will pretend as if I didn't. ( if you are curious why I am saying this please read my review of the meatballs at fjäderholmarna körg) Pelikan! Finally I made it here. I called to make reservations but was asked to walk in as it was only for one person. TBH, I was a bit nervous because I hate waiting for food - so when i arrived there I was disappointed when I was told that there wasn't a table available for one person ... That said, the lead host was great took me to the bar/parlour next door and offered me drinks ( not free) I waited for 10-15 mins tops and was seated at the main dining hall. The meatballs arrived and looked and tasted delicious. It lived up to the reviews I had read online. Overall I would recommend this place who is visiting Stockholm and would like to taste meatballs. For someone who doesn't mind taking a boat out to the archipelagos... I would say try the meatballs at fjäderholmarna körg .

Yelp
Of course I liked Pelikan. They have cloud berries! They also have good craft beer. My friend and I sat in the pub area which was casual and nice. It still had a good ambiance, very laid back, beautiful dark wood, mood lighting, tons of sexy Swedish men. The beers were good, served in tall glasses. The cloudberry jam with WHO CARES IT IS CLOUDBERRIES was very good. Came with a sort of crème fraiche. Maybe there was a cheesecake too?

Yelp
I was searching for a traditional Swedish restaurant and game across this gem on yelp. The ambience was great and the restaurant has been there for years. My friend and I stuck with the traditional Swedish meatballs which were excellent. I loved the mashed potatoes as well! We had the shrimp on toast for an appetizer which was perfect to share. If you are looking for a traditional meal.

Yelp
Sometimes you are lucky on your travels to hit a homerun to find a place that serves quality local food with a slight twist and have the honour of being served by someone with a great sense of humor. This place first of all is big but popular, so reservation could be advised. It is a bit expensive, but then why are you in Stockholm if you are concerned with costs. We were offered some great seafood delicacies and recommended some of the specials of the day. The waiter did not wait to ask our permission and directly brought the vodka bottle to offer us a couple shots while having our salted fish. During the meal, he knew when to come and check on us if we needed refills on our drinks and if we were enjoying our meal. You could tell we had the luck of being served by an experienced waiter. Our meals hit jackpot and we enjoyed an excellent meal. If I was to be in Stockholm again, I would make it a principle to go back to this place to challenge the place to match my expectations of this place now.

Yelp
Swedish food at its best. Pelikan gives a new name to elegant simplicity. The high ceilings and classical interior gives you a feeling that your eating where tradition happens, and that's exactly the way the food will meet you palette. Some might consider this place overpriced, but considering the lengthy and labor intensive cooking method of much of Swedish 'husmanskost', I think pricing is perfectly in line with the dishes served. Just avoid trying to eat there during or directly after a football match, unless you're looking for a proper piss up :)) Chow down.

Yelp
This place is severely understaffed. The dining room is quite large, and on the night we came it was a full house, but there were only two servers for the whole restaurant, and it was a struggle to get our server's attention. We waited an excruciatingly long time for water and our bill. Food is nothing special, but portions are huge. I could only finish half of my shrimp salad.

Yelp
Okayyyyyyyyyy ...thought long and deep on this one, because it's not easy for me to give a place 1 star, particularly when one of the staff treated me great ...while the other... well allow me to explain: I'm spending the weekend in Stockholm... ton of work to do but I've got to get out and destress with some wine and chow. When in Rome - well then, find something standard Swedish that has a diverse age range etc - kill 3 birds with one stone ...finish my work, wine, food. So I look up this place and it seemed to have it all - "Let's do this..." I get there, and there's a blonde haired younger bartender with glasses (standard Swedish kid from central casting) start off with a glass of prosecco and open up to finish my work. He doesn't seem to say much but people are coming in - maybe he's just busy. Got a hankering for some red and ask him "I know nothing about what's good in Sweden - is there a Swedish red?" laughing a bit as the Swedes aren't known for wine - but maybe there's something that might be out there ...and he (in a deadpan indifferent voice) says "there are no Swedish reds". I'm a bit taken aback by his attitude because everybody has a red in some form - but heyyy... what do I know? I'm just like "Ohhh okay hey no worries - I'll stick with my prosecco." So...another bartender comes in - African guy (not sure - I may be wrong) ...who was really helpful about everything - making suggestions on the menu - was honest about the herring (it's not for everyone) and just overall good guy. Not overly "hey I'm your best friend" b.s. - just good solid neighborhood kinda' dude. After a bit I'm thinking - okay I really want a red so I'll just go with whatever they have ...I ask the Swedish kid "When you get a chance - can I get a glass of red - do you have merlot or whatever?" He just ignores me and goes to the other side of the bar setting up high-ball glasses etc. At that point, I realize this kid is literally trying to act like a douche. Whatever problem he's got with me - who knows - but we all run into people like this so whatever... still not worth getting upset over because everything else is great... ...so after a bit he starts setting up making drinks right within a hair of my laptop ... I don't take any issue at this - because I am at the bar - and besides - I'm sure he'll be careful ... right? Yeah ...you guessed it - he starts splashing alcohol, mixer etc all over the place ...a couple drops get on my computer and I'm "whoa whoa ...careful dude" ...and he just ignores what he did - FULLY cogniscent that he did it (mind you - the bar is huge - he's got more than a number of places to mix the drinks - and further let's say he didn't - he doesn't even try and ask me something decent like "hey man - I need this spot to mix because blah blah -would you mind sliding over" or anything - but of course not) ...so...it gets worse...about 10 minutes later ...same thing - but more liquid splashes on to my screen AND me...at that point I raised my voice and am like "What the EF are you doing?? Will you watch it!" ...and this is where it went ridiculous... his response? "You have your work....I have mine." At that point I wanted to leap over the bar and pummel this kid - but the last thing I want to do is spend the weekend in a Swedish jail - furthermore I have a very ethnic look and given how things have been in Sweden the last 2 years, I'm guessing my side of the story might not be taken seriously...regardless my response: "Well you're one hell of a Swedish ambassador kid... let's see if it happens again - be my guest." giving the little dork the look we all know ends in nothing good (yeah I still didn't want to go to jail... but there's a point you can't let treatment like this go unanswered.) He seemed to figure out I was serious and was being given fair warning. Not a drop of anything came my way and he kept his distance. Folks...this isn't supposed to be a #@$!*~! story ...this is supposed to have been a review of a decent place with a decent "other" bartender (who I thanked and tipped well) ... but in the end a simple visit to a place practically ruined my day. Aside from that the food was good and it's a neat place - your experience may differ - just avoid this kid ...let's hope the management realizes what he's about and will get rid of him sooner rather than later.

Yelp
For some reasons I really really liked traditional Swedish food I had there. Well, this is the first traditional Swedish meal I ever had, so I have nothing to compare this place against to, but as a world traveler and passionate home cook, I can only say that I like the food there a lot. Herring is surprisingly delicious and REFINED, yes, extremely tasty, and please make sure that you order a shot of burned wine (I had Lemon and dill infused one) to go with it, they blend beautifully in your mouth. I also had pork knuckle, which melted in my mouth. It's not fancy French/Italian stuff, but you will definitely taste the culture in your food, and it tastes good! The service was a bit slow and the drinks are overpriced (I don't think the food is). We had an excellent waitress, very friendly.
