Rote Bar

"This restaurant in the famous Hotel Sacher, a piece of the city's history, epitomises the charm of this great Viennese establishment with its striking red interior, elegant oil paintings and crystal chandeliers. The menu features dishes that draw inspiration from modern culinary trends as well as Viennese and Austrian traditional specialities, including Tafelspitz and Sachertorte. Gorgeous little veranda." - Michelin Inspector

Rote Bar is absolutely stunning!! Totally exceeded my expectations. The service is amazing and the food was fantastic. I was celebrating a special occasion and it was totally worth it. I highly recommend!

Everything between the food to the ambiance to the service was beyond perfect! Our server was super friendly and had lovely suggestions as well as impeccable timing. The quality of the food, the selection of Austrian cuisine, and the presentation was just delightful. We ordered the three course meal and the sacher boiled beef and shared everything between the two of us. The live piano and classical interior combined with comfortable seating really enhanced the experience. It felt very romantic, intimate, and even cozy due to the size. The prices were surprisingly reasonable given the fanciful decor and architecture. I would highly recommend this restaurant especially for a romantic evening in Vienna. The location is also perfect for a meal right after a performance at the Opera!

We had the pleasure of celebrating a birthday lunch at Rote Bar, and everything was absolutely perfect. From the warm, elegant ambiance to the impeccable service, the experience was truly top-notch. The staff were attentive and made us feel special throughout our visit. The food was outstanding, with every dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. It was a memorable dining experience, and we highly recommend Rote Bar for any special occasion or simply a remarkable meal. Excellent in every way!

Great pre-theater dinner, excellent service and ambiance, good cooking, except the portion is Michelin-star small. I think my fish wasn’t even 100g in total for the main. Don’t miss the famous Sacher Torte.

The food was amazing! Super service. Perfekt wine. And it's a really beautiful place. I recommend eating at the rote bar!

The atmosphere is elegant and luxurious. I had mentioned that it was my girlfriend’s birthday, and they thoughtfully brought us a Sachertorte with a candle and a beautiful birthday decoration. The schnitzel was absolutely delicious as well! A heartfelt thank you to the staff for making an already special day definitely unforgettable!

It has a very nice interior and atmosphere and excellent service. However, the food, compared to the same dishes from other restaurants in the city, wasn't something really special.

Many people queue in front of the Sacher Hotel to get a piece of the famous cake. Not many know there are two gems hidden behind the walls: the bar(s) and the Rote Bar restaurant. This has everything that I expect from a good restaurant: cosy, warm decor, great food and the best service. They know you serve the aperitif before you bring the first course. That you should open the bottle of wine after the aperitif and before serving the first course. This is authentic gastronomy, which has become rare in so many places. Keep this a gem, and don't share it with too many people unless you are a true gourmand.

Yelp
Iconic hotel for anyone visiting Vienna, known to be the birthplace of the sachertorte. Inside are six dining establishments with varying levels of fanciness but dw they all serve cake I recommend the Rote Bar, feels the most "Sacher" and you get elegance while avoiding the tourist buzz. Make sure to reserve in advance and wear appropriate clothes bc there is a dress code (they weren't too happy with my micro bubble skirt oops). They start you off with a warm, chewy potato bread with three types of butter & grilled eggplant in watercress juice that tastes refreshingly bitter. Worth the cover charge imo ‍ We ordered the green melon gazpacho, very light and fruity, but our fav was the foie gras tarte! Chocolate and liver make an excellent pair The liver had none of the metallic flavor, just tasted glorious with the elderberry jam and apricot gelée. The main dishes, while beautifully plated, tasted average. Both the beef and chicken were overcooked for our liking. Not bad but we had higher expectations. Rly good fresh linguine tho! And for the finale, Sacher torte I wanted to like it but it was unbelievably dry with a dense crumbly cake layer and a strong, garish sweetness that deters you after a couple of bites. Not even the whipped cream & strong coffee could save it. Cover Charge €4.50 Iced Melon Gazpacho €16* Original Sacher Goose Liver Tarte €36* Coq au Vin €38 Beef Roulade with Linguine €32 Original Sacher-Torte €9.90 Sacher Melange €7.10 Sparkling Water €9.90 비엔나 3대 카페중 하나인 카페 자허!

Yelp
The Restaurant Rote Bar, is a fine dining restaurant located in the Sacher Hotel in Vienna. The ambience is warm and elegant, however, we found the lunch menu limited, and the Schnitzel very dissappointing; it was all fried batter with no veal. The mini parsley buttered potatoes were delicious but that is not sufficient reason to dine here. Recommended with caution. In the same hotel, you have the famous "Blue Bar" which serves a delicious "Sacher" sausage which is great with a cocktail. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Located inside Hotel Sacher Restaurant Rote Bar oozes with history, its all-red interior, oil paintings and crystal chandeliers coupled to formal service and Viennese classics such as Tafelspitz and the eponymous Sacher Torte. Adjacent Vienna's State Opera, an open terrace offering views of a gathering pre-show crowd, it is after warm greetings that guests are offered velvet seats and white linens plus a choice of Beverages followed by warm Focaccia. Served a la carte, modern compositions made from seasonal Ingredients alongside plates with history, it is after a nightly amuse that Appetizers range from Wedding Soup to Asparagus Risotto, though fans of Foie Gras should not overlook the Goose Liver Tarte which pairs beautifully to sweet Riesling. A leisurely meal intended to be savored, the clientele's average age eclipsing sixty, Entrees feature tableside service ranging from Sauce poured over Braised Beef to plating Tafelspitz while Sacher's Wiener Schnitzel arrives perfectly prepared in two cuts large enough to share. Accompanied by Piano in the damask room after 19h00, the sun slowly setting through tall windows, Dessert includes ideas old and new though the Chocolate Torte with a layer of Apricot justifiably seems to find its way onto every table.

Yelp
Couldn't get a seat at the main cafe so I ended up here. This place is much quieter and overall ambience so much better. I ordered the schnitzel which was a bit dry, although the flavor was extremely buttery! The server fondly called the side salad 'the vitamins' and they were actually quite uniquely good! Dining here is of course not complete without a slice of the wold famous Sacher Torte!

Yelp
Impeccable service, old world elegance, and classic Viennese dishes with a few modern interpretations to spice things up. This historic gem inside the legendary Hotel Sacher is a must-visit establishment for the ambiance as much as the fine dining.

Yelp
Located inside the Sacher Hotel, the Rote Bar has red damask banquettes, elegant chandeliers and oil paintings. We had early reservations and almost had the whole place to ourselves which was great for picture taking. We were seated at the window with a view of the opera house. We wanted the price fixe menu which included a salad, vegetarian entree and Sachertorte for dessert. The entree confused me a little - it had a tomato salad and spinach inside unsweetened chocolate in the shape of a chocolate bar. It was an odd combination. I really enjoyed the Sachertorte. The cake consisted of dense chocolate cake with a thin layer of apricot jam on top with chocolate icing and unsweetened whipped cream. It was very good but very sweet. I couldn't finish it but SO inhaled his and reached for mine! What was interesting was the bathrooms in the back of the lobby. It's red walls had pictures of all the celebrities that have stayed there and apparently JFK stayed there at one point. Across the bathroom was a bar that was decorated in blue. So many great rooms for people watching! Service was attentive and we enjoyed our meal and our view of the opera house.

Yelp
Hard act to follow. High marks in comparison to other restaurants in this category. The veal was paper thin and perfect coated crust: lightly crunchy. Veggies cooked just right. Several extras like an amuse-bouche, perfect bread and a tray of sweets. Tea & coffee were flavorful and right temperature. Service was as if we were royalty! Beautiful rooms, live piano (not loud!) comfy chairs. Not cheap but reasonable for what it is. Cheers & fireworks for making us fall in love with Red Bar.

Yelp
This romantic red room has a cozy old world charm. Near a window views of the opera building , people watching and even horse drawn carriages if your lucky. If this romanticized Viennese vibe doesn't get you, try the delicious food which comes with impeccable service. It will warm you and sweet talk you with the famous Sacher torte. Cheers, here's to leaving with good memories!

Yelp
A Viennese classic inside the iconic Sacher Hotel. Everything is set in shades of red and they serve well executed Austrian classics. Friendly staff and live piano music setting the mood. Not cheap but worth the experience.

Yelp
The Germanic world has been known for its wars, and Austria is no exception. However the war that is raging at the Hotel Sacher is unlike any other that I have come across. About a century ago the Pastry Chef at Hotel Sacher created a new and delicious cake: which the Hotel called the Sacher Torte. The torte became so popular that the pastry chef recieved funding to open up his own coffee house and pastry cafe, which he did, bring his torte recipe with him. However, the Hotel didn't like this and continued to serve the torte, claiming that they were the ones who invented it. The Pastry Chef begged to differ, and claimed that he had invented it and that his place was the true home of the original sacher torte. And so the war continues to this day. I tend to side with the Sacher Hotel, because if for no other reason the cake clearly bares it's name. After all, we do not call it Chef Stefan's Torte, we call it Sacher Torte. But the war is purely ritual now... one hundred years later, because every place in Austria serves pretty much the same delicious Sacher torte.. and you can even find fake Sacher tortes in America in some places (but they are fake). So what makes a Sacher Torte so amazing. Well, when it came out, most German and Austrian cakes were either fluffy, or covered in some kind of custard. ANd they often had multiple flavor combinations, like crust, filling, fruit, cake, and frosting. But the Sacher Torte is so very simple, rich and heavier than all the rest. It is only chocolate. Delicious chocolate filling almost like coco )elley, spread between two layers of very wet and heavy chocolate sheet cake (almost as heavy and rich as a flourless chocolate cake only much better), and then frosted with... yes...milk chocolate (more like a melting chocolate bar than frosting really). The slices are almost black they are so rich, and you can feel their heaviness on the plate. The slices are small... and they go perfectly with a rich cup of coffee with cream and sugar (called a Brunner in Austria). And in my opinion there is no better place to get this combo than at the Hotel Sacher: THE original creator of the Sacher Torte. PS: There are other things offered here as well... entire fine meals in fact. But truly... in the prescience of such a cake: who cares.

Yelp
We attended a four and a half hour Russian Opera and were starving after the performance. We had reservations at the Rote Bar for 10:45. It was so late, I was not sure what to expect. I was thrilled with the service (just right), the food (delicious) and the atmosphere. This is a wonderful restaurant. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g190454-d2153854-r527091684-Restaurant_Rote_Bar-Vienna.html#

Yelp
This restaurant is what defines classy eating in Vienna. The Hotel Sacher already stands for luxury and of course the Sacher Torte is world famous. This Restaurant inside the Hotel Sacher is decorated with Red Walls and pictures of the famous Kaiser Franz Joseph, Kaiserin Sissy and other other portraits. The food, as expected, was Viennese cuisine, ranging from Duck (for 2), carved table side, to Wiener Schnitzel and Beef Roulades. The service was impeccable, and so was the food. For 3 courses including a nice bottle of wine expect to drop in excess of $100 per person.
