Here’s a New Indian Cocktail and Snack Spot on the Plateau | Eater Montreal

"Known for its Italian-Indian fusion, I associate Sandhu with the fusion sensibility that lives on in India Rosa through a few naan-pizza variations; that Italian-Indian approach is a defining part of Sandhu's identity." - Tim Forster

Google
Really good food. It is a place we go to regularly. They have an Italian and Indian meal selection and both are good. I usually get an Indian lamb dish or the butter chicken. The rest of the family usually goes for an Italian dish. Never left disappointed. The service is very friendly and attentive. We had a good time. One thing, that can be more personal and not necessarily viewed as an issue for others, the music was a bit loud and not suited for conversation. We were still able to talk and enjoy the moment.

Google
Very interesting concept. Italian and Indian, they have 2 different kitchen. We ordered mussels as well as multiple Indian dishes and they were all very good. At the end of the meal, tried the tiramisu and also it was generous, full of flavour. Love the combination, next time I’m trying the chicken butter poutine!

Stopped by after climbing at Zero Gravite. It was late in the evening, 9pm ish, so not crowded at all. We were a group of three. We didn't need to wait for a table. We ordered plain naan, and a few dips. They all were tasty. I loved the veggie options more (e.g., the spinach). The lamb was good too. Chicken, I remembered it was a bit dry, not my favorite but the soup was good.

Google
Im not sure about parking here. Menu: many options all italian or indian cuisine. Very delicious , one of the best butter chickens here. The eggplant dish was a little disappointing and i did not finish it. Def recommend the palao rice!! Very kind staff, many places to sit and not crowded!

Google

Google
A group of us shared a bunch of different platters, all graciously prepared and served. It's located a bit far from the downtown core, but worth the detour. The waiter was great.

Very delicious Indian and Italian food. Waitress was very kind.

Google
Pleasant surprise...when a restaurant sells itself as a " fine Italian/Indian cuisine", it's easy to be skeptical. How can a restaurant do both of these radically different styles of cuisine? This restaurant is not the best Italian resto, and it isn't the best Indian resto either...they do however manage to do both fairly well. We had the vegetarian calzone, which was quite large and well stuffed with veggies and cheese. We also had a vegetable biryani, and an Indian Thali (a mix of different indian items). The biryani was good, very colourful, aromatic and simply delicious. The thali was overall good, but we found that none of the items were really warm...the food was at room temperature. The thali was tasty, just wished it had been warmer. So this place is worth trying, especially if you're the indecisive kind of person, who can't choose between pizza, pasta or samosas and biryani.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. A large group of 18 dined here and we were not disappointed! We ordered a wide variety of dishes and each one was delicious. The favorite of our table was the haryali chicken tikka ...just excellent The staff was helpful and were able to accommodate all of our requests with no issues. The restaurant had some good music playing and we all were able to enjoy conversations and some, good food! Will definitely be back. no photos this round. Just too many of us passing plates back and forth to get any. As a note, the Italian options were also very good. We mostly ordered Indian food though

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! Tasty, and delicious!!! The service was wonderful! Food was on time and there was a great variety of food choices!! The ambiance was beautiful, the view was delightful and the table was set up nicely!! You should come here!!

Yelp
I don't know where to begin! Elegant restaurant with Indian & Italian food. I have some food sensitivities and they were able to accommodate me. We had the onion bhajis (pakoras) & salmon tandoori. This was delicious and finished every bite of it! We then ordered the lamb bhuna and chicken tikka masala - for the first time in years of eating Indian food, I could distinctly taste the different flavors and seasonings used in the 2 entrees. It was hard to finish the entrees yet wanting to eat more! Kudos to the chef. The food was so good we forgot to take photos!

Yelp
Ok so this restaurant is a bit bipolar, and I can't say anything on the italian side but let me tell you about the best indian dish you'll ever have. If you come here, do yourself a favor and get the ultimate indian comfort food- butter chicken! The sauce is so creamy and flavourful it's insane, and the naan bread is so fresh, you will NOT regret it! Seriously one of my top things to eat in general. If you're feeling lazy, they also deliver and they're in most delivery apps. The dish costs 18$ and it comes with rice and naan bread. I normally ask them to change the rice for more naan bread but thats just me. My boyfriend was feeling more adventurous and got the taste platter with a few different things. That one was 23$.

Yelp
What a delicious meal we got. First time here. We ordered and picked up some awesome Indian food. Ordered some combos for a family meal. Samosas, butter chicken, fresh naan bread etc... We were so hungry I even forgot to take pictures. You'll have to trust me when I say, this was oh so delicious!! We ordered for take out, and it was ready lickety split. Rushed home and the family devoured the entire dishes in a lickety split record time. Btw the kids love it too! I think my favorite was by far that butter chicken. Oh, and that freshly tandoori oven made naan bread was to die for! Yes and yes, we'll be back!

Yelp
Ay this is the spot for Indian in Montreal, no contest really. My girlfriend is unhealthily obsessed with Indian food so we ran through a good 20 spots over a two year period & this the one we keep coming back for. Added bonus their take out portions are huge. Ignore the fact they got the random Italian menu

Vikramjit S.

Yelp
We ordered food last night for takeaway. we didn't get any spoon and tissue paper in the bag. And we ordered kadai paneer. They didn't have that and staff member suggested us to try chilli paneer which was not spicy at all.

Yelp
This review is for the Indian food. I ordered take-away so I can't comment on the service, but I will say that the person that took my order was friendly and the food was ready extremely quickly. The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were both delicious and had large chucks of tasty and tender chicken. The butter chicken wasn't spicy at all and the chicken tikka I'd say was mild in terms of spice. I also like the fact that each main order comes with both naan and rice included, so factor that in when looking at the prices. The samosa's were a little too spicy for both me and my wife so I'd avoid them if you don't like spicy food. Overall I really liked the food and would definitely order from here again. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the samosa's were a bit spicy, and this restaurant seems to have a bit of an identity crisis since it also serves Italian food.

Yelp
It's right next to my place so I always get delivery from there. It's a very good Indian place for a really good price and I have never been deceived. Everything is tasty, you wouldn't be deceived !

Yelp
I only tried indian food here and usually get it as take out. I never had anything bad to say about the food nor the service. They forgot an order of samosa one time and rushed back with extra ones as compensation. It's not the best indian food in town but I really enjoy it everytime and would come back again and again.

Yelp
I ate the filet mignon Poutine and the chicken curry pizza. The Poutine was the best Poutine I have ever eaten... It was absolutely delicious. Definitely pricey but worth it. The chicken curry pizza was very good as well. It had fresh tomatoes and cilantro on it. It was really a nice cross off Italian and Indian food. I believe the crust was probably homemade as well. This resto is slightly over priced but worth a treat once in awhile.

Yelp
Great food and selection. Yes, it's odd to have an Italian and Indian in one place. However, neither disappointed. Only three stars as service could be better.

Yelp
Good food. We (used to) order for delivery weekly. The first time we ordered the $15 Butter Chicken dish we received a large bowl of sauce with 6 or 7 small cubes of chicken. Disappointing! We gave Sandhu the benefit of the doubt and a few months later, with guests for dinner, ordered the Butter Chicken again and got the same bowl of sauce with hardly any chicken. Hey Sandhu, I can buy an entire BBQ chicken for less than $10. Before turning to Yelp to whine about my first world problems, I wrote a polite email to Sandhu about this issue but have received no reply. Recap: Really good food, very stingy quantities of Butter Chicken. I'm tempted to give only 2 stars for their lack of response to my email but I'm correcting for my overall grumpiness this morning.

Yelp
Ambiance is good, service good but food is so so. Mint chutney with lots of green food colouring.

Yelp
I placed an order online, paid in full including 15% tips only to be completely disappointed. The order was never delivered. I waited more than an hour and 16 mins at which time I gave up and called to cancel. It was my first time but now after this bad experience, I have decided to take my business elsewhere.

Yelp
Went here for a family birthday dinner since this place is a longtime favorite of my relatives. Loved not being limited to a single cuisine - tried the Indian tasting plate from the table d'hôte and was really impressed. The quality was a notch above your usual Indian resto - the carrot ginger soup was creamy but not heavy, with tons of flavor. The naan bread was the best I've had in years - fresh, crispy and perfectly charred. The lamb vindaloo was not so spicy (slight disappointment, I love having my tastebuds knocked outta my mouth) but surprisingly the chef's choice veggie (zucchini) had the perfect amount of zing to it. The channa masala contained the creamiest garbanzo beans ever, I could live on this stuff. My family was raving about the veal parmigiana and the pasta looked and smelled pretty delish. The service was great on the night I went, waitress was really friendly and attentive. I'd go back here for sure, especially for a group dinner - the extra variety of choices makes it a great option and they're set up to accommodate big tables. Confession: enjoying Sandhu leftovers as I write this, wishing I hadn't been such a pig the night of ;)

Yelp
To be honest we were looking for a specific type of pizza and this restaurant had it! We ordered the Mélanzane Pizza (Sauce tomate, fromage, aubergines grillées, ail, ricotta et piments rouges piquants) and requested only ricotta cheese to keep it light. Sandhu kindly accommodated the modification and the delivery was fast. The banana peppers gave the flavors a nice heat. The dough is very good and probably to most people's taste though we'd prefer thinner crust if we had that option. Oh, and fantastic tiramisu !

Yelp
Family of 6 adults with different likes but we all found something good. 5 out 6 meals were wonderful. The pizza meal was ok. The India curry dish was great. Steaks very good. Fair price. We only speak English and they only speak French but all worked out well. Nice staff.

Yelp
Indian menu is good. Was really disapointed with the italian. Just ordered a carbonara pasta - only way I can describe it is an overpriced pile of grease, ate two bites and threw it out.

Yelp
Pizza in Montreal - Over charging and not delivering - I lost 9$ and they offer 4$ compensation Sandhu Restaurant 4548 Avenue Papineau, Montréal, QC dudes seriously, a few times now you do not deliver on the extra we pay. I know it's only bacon and spinach... but I paid for it. Please do your part Sandhu and actually deliver what I paid for

Lisa P.

Yelp
Best to spend your money elsewhere. Terrible customer service, food was so so. Delivery takes an eternity and they always leave something behind. There are better indian and italian places with nicer staff all over this island, I recommend anywhere else but here.

Michel T.

Yelp
They have a Midi Express Meal Deal at $10.95 which was delicious. We tried the chicken madras and chicken Tikka. Served with rice, Naan Bread, indian veggies plate and fried veggie croquettes..(sorry I do not remember the name). Service was great. Our waitress was amazing and meals were served fast. We shall return.

Andrew M.

Yelp
I just had the misfortune of ingesting what this place considers Indian food. Ugh. Judging from other reviews, it seems we caught them on an off night, or maybe ordering for delivery is just not their forte. On top of having to wait for over an hour to get our food, what I received was an oily, wet mess. The madras was more like boiled chicken in a coconutty soup, the vindaloo was bland and mostly sauce and the veggies mushy and unappetizing. The worst, by far, was the naan, which was wet and clearly undercooked. After the first taste of the food, I ended up eating only the pakoras, the only halfway decent food of the bunch. All to say, a waste of just over $50 (not the kind of price one wants to pay for this mess). I'd say skip this one if you're ordering in. Maybe they're only good to dine-in.

Yelp
I've been ordering from this restaurant on a regular basis for the last 2 months, Spent over $400 on take out(always purchasing online using my credit card) they got my order wrong more often then not, on a few occasions i had to contact them and have them fix my order, on one occasion they told me they would fix my order the next i purchased take out and they never did. Each and every single time i ordered from this restaurant i was harassed at the door for a tip, then was treated very rudely when i refused, and was told that i had to tip. the last two times i ordered from Sandhu they charged my credit card 15$ for a tip, which i did not authorize. my order is never more then 20$ so that's 20$ + 15$ = 35$ for 1 14 inch soggy sub..i ordered again today for the last time in the hopes they would be professional and replace my money or give me a credit at the very least, the person i spoke to on the phone was very rude and after telling me it was my banks problem and not theirs proceeded to insult and berate me in french thinking i didnt understand, when in fact my first language is french. the driver who delivered my food today put his foot in my door and so i couldn't close it demanding i give him a tip quote "who do you think pays for the gas" when i again refused to tip him because my sub was cold and soggy which i could feel through the bag, he proceeded to insult me, my apartment and then spit in my face, pretty sure i got food poisining too, since eating the soggy sub i have been throwing up endlessly...If you value your banking information or your self respect do not order from or eat at this restaurant, they are rude, they are thieves and they have zero respect for their customers!
