The 38 Best Restaurants in Honolulu, Hawai‘i | Eater

"For a good time, make it Suntory time at Restaurant Suntory in Waikīkī. The restaurant specializes in beautifully prepared teppanyaki, sushi, and washoku (traditional Japanese cuisine). Think: kamameshi that steams in its iron pot tableside and single-serving shabu shabu. Because this is a restaurant by Suntory, there are plenty of whisky highballs made with Hibiki, Yamazaki, or Hakushu (also available served neat, of course). Know before you go: For the best deal, go for lunch, when a monthly changing set menu is $46 and a sukiyaki set is $26." - Martha Cheng

The 20 Best Restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaiʻi | Eater

"Restaurant Suntory, operated by the Japanese whisky and spirits powerhouse, is one of the best and most elegant all-around Japanese restaurants in Honolulu. It offers three separate experiences and dining rooms: teppanyaki, sushi omakase, and washoku (traditional Japanese cuisine), so you’ll need to specify which type of meal you want when you make your reservation. The washoku menu is the broadest, offering a la carte sashimi, tempura, and small dishes, as well as set menus of kamameshi (iron pot rice) steamed tableside or shabu shabu. And because it’s Suntory, you’ll want to check out the drink menu, too. Know before you go: At $46, the kaiseki-style lunch sets are a great deal, but must be reserved in advance (only 18 are prepared each day)." - Martha Cheng

Top dining experience in Waikiki! Food was delicious and fresh, and their menu makes it so that you want to come back for more. We came for their lunch kaisen set and you will not be disappointed. While the food is some of the tastiest, the service might even be better. Irene is a standout server, super friendly, knowledgeable and personable. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
May 2025 Modern stylized Japanese restaurant serving traditional cuisine. This spacious sized restaurant provides two main areas for the counter teppan or grilling and the regular dinning area. Both sections are luxuriously constructed in clean, well ventilated, and bright conditions with warm wooden accents. Generally serene and restive. The food is of high standard ingredients with a very minimalist but well designed menu. The drinks menu is also well ordered and I particularly like the subtle use of seasons in the recos. Set menus are well balanced and generous. Servings are standard and professionally served and visually appealing. Servers are friendly and very attentive. One will truly feel the Japanese culinary fine dining culture at the fore. Ideal for special gatherings, dates, and meetings.

Google
This was an amazing dining experience! The service was top-notch—the servers and chefs were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the meal even more enjoyable. The quality of the meat and sushi was excellent, and the mackerel was especially delicious. To top it all off, the teppan pancakes for dessert were absolutely superb—so fluffy and flavorful! Highly recommend this place for a fantastic meal with great hospitality. Will definitely be coming back!

Google
Excellent quality for teppanyaki style food. The service was very good and our chef was personable, polite and professional. The real star here is the food.... We ordered the least expensive 5 oz washu steak combo and the quantity, freshness and quality went above expectations. Pricing was $60/person, so not out of line.. and so much better quality than Benihana.... Highly recommended, especially the daily lunch special!

Tokiwa Omakase was amazing tonight for Easter Dinner! The Executive Sous Chef Tomoya Makabe did a great job and everything was so delicious. He even took this great picture of us before the night was over. 🐣🐰❤️

Google
I tried the curry Teppan lunch special for $28 and my wife got the sashimi and mackerel lunch set. Both were incredible. It’s a great value. The service is top notch and everyone is so polite and attentive. The kitchen closes at 1:30pm for lunch so definitely try to arrive no later than 1:15.

Google
The red miso soup with mushrooms taste like hot water without flavor. The fat tuna and snow crab cake are delicious. But the plate they use has stains and peels off. Very disappointed; I was expecting a higher-scale experience.

Google
I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday and it was such a pleasant experience. It was our first time trying omakase and it was definitely an experience we won’t forget. The dinner was quiet and intimate which was a plus for us and the staff was very prompt and our Chef, Tomoya Makabe, was truly skilled in his craft. He made sure the courses were thoroughly explained and we enjoyed every bite. If you’re visiting Oahu, I would definitely recommend booking the omakase experience.

Yelp
Had a reservation at 12:30; took us in right away. Loved the atmosphere and the calm-like setting. Hitsumabushi Sets were delicious and good, also ordered a Sashimi Set though the server forgot to bring out the rice and miso soup for it, so I feel I spent $34 mainly for fish. My girlfriend felt an uncomfortable vibe from the server, but other than that she brought our things out in a timely manner. The highballs were great.

Yelp
we came here for thanksgiving and the service was very good our waitress was very nice and helped tell us what was what. The food was also very delicious. The atmosphere was very homely and cute.

Yelp
Service here was excellent! The renovated dining area was spacious and elegant. Tried the Special Dinner Menu (Hitsumabushi Gozen $58) includes appetizer, sashimi, and Choice of Unagi or Crab and Seafood Hitsumabushi. The unagi rice with tea/dashi broth was comforting and filling. Also tried some ala carte dishes. Veggie tempura was nicely lightly battered, a tad oily. The hot soba was great. Didn't care for the macadamia nut tofu, a bit too rich for a tofu.

Yelp
The only Suntory restaurant in the U.S. delivers an authentic Japanese dining experience. The service is exceptional, reflecting the high standards you'd expect in Japan. The sashimi set was incredibly fresh, and the Wagyu A5 beef was absolutely delicious--both standout dishes. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and the overall experience make it worthwhile. If you're looking for a premium Japanese dining experience, Suntory is a fantastic choice.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place just because our waitress was attentive and helpful but I genuinely do not think I will ever come back. The food was not bad by any means but totally overpriced in a city where so much excellent traditional Japanese food can be had. First off, the restaurant uses cheap wooden chopsticks. They were made in Japan but they broke into splinters when you first split them. Horrible. We asked if we could get real chopsticks and they replied they had none. Unreal! Second, the food is not special. We opted for some hot pot style sets and I can say with certainty that Haidilao or Chong Qing Yaomei hotpot would offer same quality meat and vegetables at a lower price point. There is simply no flavor in the Japanese hot pots offered and the sauces were literally nothing special (sesame and an almost ponzu like sauce that was too heavy on vinegar). I consider this a travesty--sauces are critical to good hot pot. Third, our ice cream (which came with our expensive hotpot sets) had freezer burn on them still when they were served to us. Totally unacceptable and a lack of attention to detail. As a counterpoint, my brother-in-law ordered the unagi set that comes with sashimi and some small bites a la kaiseki. He said it was delicious. My sister, on the other hand, ordered the salmon chazuke and thought it was basic. Perhaps the only dish worth ordering is the hamachi kama. Large portion, juicy, and delicious. That dish alone is what is preventing my review from being a 1-star. Finally, there is a teppanyaki style of the restaurant that seemed to be more popular. But my impression is that it probably totally overpriced for what it is!

Yelp
This place is amazing! The rare occasions when I am in Waikiki and walked by here and think oh this place boujie looking. My friend and I always take a year into planning before we see each other. haha! Life and adult friendships. Our days aligned and I suggested we go here so made a reservation which was easy. The one thing this place did that I found odd was the reservation on app asked about allergies then they CALL prior to reservation to make sure you and your party have no allergies then they ask you again prior to ordering. They have to be sure. I guess for people who do have severe allergies it is a plus they triple check.... We came here for lunch and they have some seasonal lunch specials. They have teppanyaki or Washoku style seatings. We opt for Washoku. We ordered a refreshing drink, I had the Spring/Sakura highball and my friend had winter/yuzu. Mine was hoooweee strong whiskey with a hint of shiso, hers was more creamy sweet. I ordered tempura and sashimi lunch set which was good and the sashimi was fresh. My friend got one of their special sets, SHUNSAI-ZEN set. It had like 7 small dishes and looked so good! It looked like a good deal. For you Amex card peeps, they are part of Resy. Service was wonderful here and will definitely be back!

Yelp
11/17/18: for Honolulu Restaurant Week (11/9- 11/17/24), its shunsaizen lunch set (limit to 18/day) was for only $40 (instead of it's usual $46). Everything was so delicious and fresh. Great price for the variety, quality and thoughtfulness in the menu. It's been a while, but I just had to get the fresh pineapple sour (thanks to my bf for doing all the juicing.) He really enjoyed the cocktails he had. We used to get their shunsaizen lunch set every month, but they gradually kept increasing the price so we don't go as often, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it at this discounted price. Service is always really friendly (the servers tend to remember us). Tip: free parking up to 3 hours with special validation for kamaaina and military, just have to show your appropriate ID and @royalhwnctr receipt(s) ($10 total minimum) at Helumoa Hale Guest Services on the bottom floor.

Yelp
Throughout my travels, I've visited various locations of this restaurant, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, and now Oahu, HI. While I have always found the experience to be authentic and enjoyable, my most recent visit didn't quite match the high expectations set by my time in Mexico City, where the service was truly superb. In terms of food, it was good but not particularly memorable. As is often the case, it was also on the pricier side. Given my experience, I don't foresee myself returning anytime soon, especially considering the intense competition in the area. I do hope they can improve, as there's always room for growth in such a vibrant dining scene.

Yelp
Fantastically expensive, abjectly mediocre. There's too much going on in the menu to really expand meaningfully on that point. The service was a bit bumbling, and environment a bit huddled, but all in all it passes for a decent dining experience.

Yelp
The drinks are so good and strong! Must try, well worth the price. The lunch menu was also good. Might look small but actually very well full.

Yelp
We decided to celebrate our 30 year anniversary lunch here. Only one server in our seating area and he was fairly new. I asked about the specials and he said he prefers meat so he would order one of the other beef dishes. Good thing because my partner prefers meat too. I ordered the Shunsai-Zen lunch special. I enjoyed the sushi. Some of the items were a bit plain but it was fresh. I liked all the different dishes. I tasted the beef sirloin and it wasn't a super good piece of meat. It was okay, a bit thin and a lunch item. Room was nice, wooden walls, chairs, bench seats, and air conditioned. There were at least 12 other diners in our section. They had another section too. I would come back. It was relaxing and I liked the ambiance. I would like to try the other items on the menu too.

Yelp
Hands down the best Japanese teishoku and teppan in Hawaii. It never disappoint here and service is attentive and courteous. Ample parking at the Royal Hawaiian Center. For local kamaainas you can use the restaurant receipt to get more validation up to 3 hours at the customer service downstairs. The restaurant went through renovation in 2022 and the Japanese washoku side has wooden decors which give a warm feeling while the room overlooks to the Pink Lady (Royal Hawaiian Hotel).

Yelp
When looking for a nice lunch spot to celebrate a special occasion, Suntory is one of my go-tos. The lunch specials are great, even if they condensed their menu from what it was previously. There's a good variety for people from Tempura, udon, soba, sashimi and tepanyakki (just know it's a different seating area and reservation area notation) We came here to celebrate my coworkers birthday and the birthday ice cream was so cute, thank you for the little special touch! I tried the daily special that was salmon, ikura, and uni donburi. Originally I was nervous it wasn't going to be enough food, but it ended up being just the right amount with the miso soup, radish and salad. You could tell everything was high quality and fresh from the shine off the food and the fresh smell. So Ono!! You'll see me back here again to celebrate a special occasion for lunch.

Yelp
Restaurant SUNTORY houses 4 different dining areas - the Sushi Counter (by TOKIWA), a Teppan Room, a Washoku Room, and a Lounge. There is also a Private Room for group gatherings that could be reserved in advance. We were fortunate to try out TOKIWA - note that there are only 9 seats at the counter, and the experience is intimate and cozy. All the chefs that are assigned are kind and friendly, and you can tell that they are quite experts! Each course that was provided during the omakase was fresh and thoughtful. Located at the Royal Hawaiian Center, reservations are required. +try TOKIWA +reservations are required +located at the Royal Hawaiian Center

Yelp
Suntory is my favorite Japanese restaurant to come to. Food is off the hook , everything is very fresh. Service is excellent, NEVER DISAPPOINT. very very clean restaurant. They also have full shelves of Hebiki whiskey bottles for display only , too bad it's not for sale. lol

Yelp
Ordered the winter highball, yuzu highball and toki highball. All drinks were very tasty and refreshing. Appetizer was the deep fried shrimp cake. Was alright tasted very clean and not too oily. Entree was 8oz chateaubriand with the garlic fried rice add on. The meat was exceptional. Super tender and delicious. Chef Brian was very informative and friendly. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming back in the future. Restaurant itself was very clean and organized. Well vented inside the main seating area and had clean bathrooms. All staff were friendly and attentive.

Yelp
My birthday lunch was here and out of all of the restaurants I visited this was the only time I do not feel the prices matched the value. Our reservation was 30 minutes before they closed (my friend booked this on his own and I wish he had booked it earlier had I known they closed soon after) it felt a little rushed. The waitress was kind. They do not have any tea options other than some black tea that's easy to forget. The prices for lunch were still $50. I ordered chicken and scallops. It was good. I got half a scallop and a scoop of chicken. The garlic rice was good. The Mai tai was good. But I was so underwhelmed.

Yelp
The week after you come back from Japan, you mope around the house wishing you were still in Japan, eating all the things that Japan has to offer, especially Kaiseki meals. You can experience a little bit of Japan right here in Waikiki (for a hefty price). Choose washoku or teppanyaki seating, I've done both and they are fantastic. We had all kinds of great dishes in the kaiseki meal, and also ordered the Miyazaki beef sukiyaki dipped in the soft boiled onsen egg. Ahhh. Perfection. Almost like Japan!

Yelp
*Review is for sushi omakase service at Suntory* My friends' family from Japan treated me to the sushi omakase dinner service at Suntory. Upon entry the omakase is in the back and the walk just to get there felt like I was going into Narnia. It was fun though and the ambiance was stellar. The sushi section was a distinct counter style with only counter seating available, so reservations are a must when attending. Every single dish our chef prepared was excellent. I think one thing to note before going to this specific omakase was that the taste buds it was catered towards was Japanese people, meaning that the flavor of the food is not as pronounced or strong as American foods or other cultures where spices and seasoning are a prominent staple. Disregarding the sushi entirely, but the regular dishes served were very light and I enjoyed how it did not overpower the palate to the point where you cannot taste the other dishes. Sushi was 10/10. Most omakases are on-point here in Hawaii. Every single one I've been to has been on point. Chef obviously has trained a lot to be able to execute and cut certain fish to bring out its best. We also had friendly banter with our chef and I always have fun speaking Japanese to everyone so I had a lot of fun here lol. This omakase was no different, and expect an amazing experience. Also if you order the Pineapple or Grapefruit sour the workers will actually grind the fruit for you fresh and put it into your drink for you. Lol fancy. Other than that it's great and worth the price for a fancy outing. Or you can be like the other group on the other side of our table. Talking about boobs and then dancing to the Japanese club after :o They think I can't understand but I know what they are saying. Bits and pieces. LOL!

Yelp
When visiting Suntory, plan ahead and make reservations. Too often I've wanted to have a quick lunch at Suntory only to find out they're fully booked for lunch. My Mom loves Suntory and has been asking me to take her for awhile. Luckily I snagged reservations and ordered the limited set "Shunsai" lunch. Service at Suntory is always great. We were seated at a very nice and comfortable table. Our server was attentive and efficient. Not to mention the a/c was at a perfect temperature. Not too hot or cold which for me is hard to do. Everyone in our group found something to suit their taste. For me, the tempura and cold udon combo was excellent. Tempura was crispy, light, and had all the right vegetables with a fried shrimp. The cold udon was also good but maybe too light in flavor. My Dad had the Shunsai and he said it was special. While there wasn't a specific dish that stood out, he thought the entire set was well done and ample. My Mom had the cold soba and tempura. She enjoyed it and said it was very good. I wish they would bring back their lunch specials. I used to have this baked salmon avocado mayo dish that was very good. That was the only disappointment as I was looking forward to maybe ordering that dish. Since Suntory is located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center parking was tight and validation limited. Overall lunch was relaxing and everyone enjoyed the food. We will definitely return! LOCATION: 4/5 FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 4/5 AMBIANCE: 5/5 PET FRIENDLY: no CLEANLINESS: 5/5 PARKING: 4/5

Yelp
While the food was fairly good, I was expecting a lot more for what we're paying. I left underwhelmed mostly due to the service. Our waiter seemed soooo inexperienced and uninterested. He was awkward and didn't know much about the menu and wasn't helpful at all. This restaurant has $$$$ and I expect the service to be parallel. Our reservation was for the Washoku room and we opted to order ala carte. We ordered a variety of fish which were the standouts. They tasted fresh and were well cooked. The miso black cod, miso butterfish, and grilled yellowtail collar were delicious. The mix tempura and chicken kaarage though weren't anything special. The portions are on the smaller side so I would recommend doubling up if trying to share. Their Japanese whiskey list and cocktails were extensive!

Yelp
TL;DR Upscale and refined Japanese dining in the heart of Waikiki. NOTE: this review is for the Washoku dining experience. ----- My wife, daughter, and I dined at Suntory on a Friday night. We were able to secure a reservation at 5:30pm opening and were seated promptly. Parking is available at the Royal Hawaiian Center and is validated by the restaurant. Of course, we kicked off the night with a couple ice cold Suntory draft beers. Yummy!!! I ordered the "TOKI" hot pot and sushi course plus an ikura temaki, my wife ordered the "IRODORI" seasonal kamameshi course plus an uni temaki, and we ordered a bowl of hot soba and the miso salmon belly for our daughter. Everything was delicious. The highlights from my meal were the mini wagyu sukiyaki, the tempura (fried dish), and the miso black cod (grilled dish). My wife's favorites were the chawanmushi and the kamameshi. The service was fantastic (very attentive!) throughout the meal. As a parent, I also appreciated their valet service for strollers. It's pricey here but definitely worth it. I'm excited to return to try their teppan offering.

Yelp
So... I can only judge local standards based on what we've tried thus far, but by my standards (at a mostly NYC baseline, with once-frequent trips to Tokyo), the set lunch menus at Suntory at lunch are ok, not standout. I'd love to try the omakase at dinner sometime, which some Yelp reviewers I trust have reviewed well... but not while we are this jetlagged, sadly. Those might be the real draw! My sashimi set included tako (octopus), hamachi (yellowtail), maguro / akami (lean tuna), isaki, and swordfish. The isaki came with a lot of tough skin still attached. It was attractive but difficult to chew and eat. In general, the sashimi were so-so, of fair, but not excellent quality, and would be considered pedestrian for the price in NYC. Plating was beautiful. Accompanying miso soup was good, rice fair, and takuan standard issue. A tempura / soba set meal was also just ok, the tempura varied (oyster mushroom, eggplant, pumpkin, shiso, shrimp, and some sort of fish that my little one said was salmon; I don't think it was), but overly oily and not properly blotted before serving. Soba was the correct texture and came in a plentiful serving size, with a fairly good soup / dipping sauce, a pile of negi (scallions) and grated daikon radish for garnish. Our servers were lovely, but spread thin, it was clear. We enjoyed the third floor view over the mall green where we'd just enjoyed a hula dance class. The table next to us had a beautiful-looking shabu shabu, which I hadn't even seen on the menu. Next time!

Yelp
Really high price point for bland food. Also, the chopsticks were absolutely horrendous. Some shitty wooden chopsticks that flake off easily. Pretty hard to believe for a $100 per person place, they'd go so cheap on chopsticks. Service was also not great. The waitress really just rubbed me the wrong way with her demeanor.
google avatar

Yelp
Awful experience. Waitress was stressed and unable to get to people in a timely manner. We were seated at a dirty hibachi table. The same dirty rags used in a prior hibachi service were used to clean the grill before our food was cooked. The grill chef was friendly, but that was the extent of the positives. Our salads were served in acrylic wine glasses and the lettuce was brown. We also were not given side plates to place between our plates ( positioned close to the chef and our placemats). So eating seemed messy and uncivilized. Our vegetables were cooked a long time before our proteins. Miso soup and rice came after our meats were already long cold. My appetite was a tad ruined by the use of dirty rags to clean our grill. It was WAY too expensive to be like this. Very upset by the amount of spend vs the quality.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. The food was amazing. The spread was intimidating in a good way at first, I wasn't aware that I was going to be receiving so much. Lucky for me, I was starving that day. We had a fantastic waitress, she was very cheerful. Excellent location. It's tucked away in this little tree like fort shopping area. Would strongly recommend the visit.

Yelp
I booked for dinner omakase and the chef, Takuya Kanto, his sous chef, and the waitress made the dinner a 5 star experience. Mr. Kanto worked at a 2 star Michelin restaurant in Hokkaido, Japan and he was handpicked by the chef there to work at Suntory for omakase. His knife skills and years of honing a palette for omakase did not go unnoticed. All the hard work has paid off because the food was spectacular. It reminded me of trips to Japan in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo and the wonderful food there. I would love to visit Hokkaido after this experience, with all the lovely seafood and fruits sourced from there for the dinner. The ambience is clean and minimalistic. The food presentation was stunning. There were fellow travelers from Japan who were wowed by the food. I have had omakase in San Francisco and Japan and this experience was one of the best. Thank you Chef for your dedication to your work and the sacrifices it took for us to have this experience. We are truly grateful.

Yelp
Heard about this restaurant on Waikiki and decided to try it. Everything we had was fresh! I wouldn't say it blew me off but sashimi was fresh and I guess this is important. My sukiyaki was not out of ordinary but could be better. I like the ambiance, very simple Japanese designs - clean. Restaurant is well lit and quiet. Service is excellent too.

Yelp
We had the omakase, so please keep that in mind. This is what you would expect for a high class, upper echelon omakase. The fish is fresh, and there are some unique and delicious versions of the classic. In this place, you won't find california rolls or that fusion stuff. This is the what I call the traditional version. The ambiance is calm and collected, like being in a high end, private dinning room. You don't hear any of the other customers outside. The executive Takuya Kanto was at the helm of the 9 seater and provided excellent service. It does help enormously if you could speak Japanese, however, he's still gracious and tries to his best. The service was excellent as the other servers could speak English well. The Sake is great, we asked for a recommended course and he asked how many sake. We said three, and we got excellent (and expensive) choices. After the omakase, be sure to save room - there's an opportunity to get a repeat of what you like. AND there may be other items you could request that you were not aware of. For example, he busted out the blow torch and we got wagyu nigiri. Will definitely go again! We want to try the lunch omakase (which should be just as good - and we'll ask for Chef Kanto again, too!)

Yelp
Very fun! Suntory is in the heart of Waikiki in the Royal Hawaiian Center, known for their amazing Japanese dishes. Came here with my mom (we come regularly for lunch). Today we decided to try the new local lunch set! It comes with a salad, very fresh, with bell peppers, tomatoes and a very nice acidic and tangy vinaigrette. It was lovely and a nice appetizer. The main course; sushi roll with salmon skin and ikura on top. The flavor was delicate and perfectly balanced. The ikura was not fishy at all. The steak, medium rare, was perfect, the flavor was amazing, simple and cooked to expectation. If I were to add, a bowl of rice to pair with the steak would have been perfect, however it was as still very good and the steak was very balanced, light, and had a mild beef flavor which didn't overpower the mouth. Overall, amazing lunch menu for a nice meal or a business meet. Clean and simple :)

Yelp
Came here for lunch special menu and ordered the shabu set. It felt a little expensive for what it was but that reflects the location and ambiance which were prime.

Yelp
Food quality has decreased. We made reservations and had a rushed unfriendly experience with the waitress. Don't like that feeling since we were catching up with friends (we stayed less than 1.5 hours) used to like this place won't be returning.

Yelp
I've dined here several times with colleagues. One of the best places to wine, dine, and unwind. Very happy about their new hot pot menu. Most of us had the Sukiyaki Hot Pot set. As always the food is served fresh and is so delicious. Service is always top notch. The ambiance was perfect. I've only dined here for lunch. Would love to have dinner here someday. Mahalo again for always taking care of us.

Yelp
This review is for the omakase at Sushi Tokiwa, a separate room within Restaurant Suntory. Make reservations online. Though not terribly busy for a weekday lunch. It was about 13 pieces for the lunch omakase. The five star review is really because the quality of the food and experience + the cost of it ($100pp). Compared to a good handful of other omakases we've had in Seattle and various other metro cities, many of which felt like good to try once but not a repeat, I feel like this one is well worth it and to come again. At the end of the meal, I was contemplating if we should try to make another one before our one week vacation was over. Added photos of just a few of the items that were highlights during the meal.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. What an incredible meal. I had an opportunity to dine at Restaurant Suntory this evening and had a chance to try out the washoku experience. The entire meal was absolutely spectacular. There was not a single dish that did not completely exceed my expectations. My wife got the chef recommended kaiseki course -- "HIBIKI", while I ended up getting the seasonal kamameshi course -- "IRODORI". For $180 and $86 respectively, there is a pretty big difference in price. That said, I would highly recommend this combination for couples who want to try a bit of everything. Without going into every single course, my favorite course was probably the most mundane one: the kamameshi (iron pot rice). The perfectly cooked rice was served with a wonderful assortment of toppings, including picked plum, roasted seaweed, and more. A close second was probably the grilled fish: perfectly char, and super buttery. I would say this dish was on par with the miso cod from Nobu. The nigiri course also did not disappoint: the uni, Hokkaido scallop, and tuna were fresh, sweet, and succulent. The tuna had a wonderful balance of fattiness and meatiness as well. Definitely some of the best fish I've encountered in Oahu. If you are celebrating a special occasion and have the means to splurge in a big way on a meal, Suntory does not disappoint. The food here is absolutely exceptional, and service and drink offerings are top notch as well.

Yelp
The restaurant offers the best hospitality and excellent service. The restaurant is clean, quiet and very relaxing. The food is all delicious because they use carefully selected good ingredients. Whiskies such as Yamazaki and Hibiki, which are hard to find, can be enjoyed here. Located at Royal Hawaiian Center, very accessible and very convenient! It would be nice to have this restaurant for special occasions.

Yelp
TLDR: Restaurant Suntory is basically three restos in one. We did the Teppanyaki and although pricy, very tasty if you're looking for an elevated experience. Basically think grown-up Benihana without the onion volcano. This was our last meal in Waikiki and I love the idea of restaurants within a restaurant. We opted for the extended tasting menus (sans lobster) and got a US filet and a wagyu filet to compare both. While the wagyu was certainly a bit more tender and super delicious, I wouldn't say it was far beyond the flavor of the US filet. If the US filet was at an 8, the wagyu brought it to maybe a 9. Definitely get the garlic fried rice and it is a fair bit of food so come hungry. The panko shrimp was exceptionally good. Crispy, garlicky, just the right amount of bounce on the shrimp. I would definitely come here again and I'd love to try the traditional restaurant and/or the sushi bar. Service team here was top notch as well.

Yelp
Wow, what an experience on Wakiki. Reservation is highly recommended. Came here for lunch and had a memorable meal that I will recommend to my Yelp community. Suntory is all about quality and service. I will be coming back every time visiting the island.

Yelp
One of the last remaining original tenants of the Royal Hawaiian Center is Restaurant Suntory. You may be familiar with the name due to Suntory's world renown whiskies. We had a small group of friends the night we decided to visit. A masterful collection of Japanese cuisine along with waitstaff that has precise timing is the best way to explain our dining experience. Taste was so spot on with chawanmushi, black cod and wagyu nigiri. Texture was another important factor that included the appetizer and sashimi. I can't recommend this place enough! Whatever you do make a reservation and no matter which menu you choose I hope your tastebuds are ready!

Yelp
The food was just okay if not less. I expected much, much better quality at this price point per person and was sorely disappointed. The appetizer selections included a cup of salad, a couple pieces of sashimi, and some small bites. This felt like airplane food and I wouldn't have been okay with it at any other prix fixe place. I also found a piece of thick fish bone in the smoked salmon, which the manager came and apologized for. The veggies were salty. Abalone was specifically baby abalone (on the pricier menu). There was no substitution available for the higher priced menu if you have allergies, so the only thing you can do is go for the cheaper menu - which made no sense to me. The habachi experience was subpar as well and definitely do not expect the same type of entertainment from a Benihana. My steak was a bit over cooked and the fried rice was mushy. Finally, the dessert was a true shame, an artificially flavored ube jello that felt like it had been sitting in the fridge for quite a few days. Also note that everything was served in plastic ware, which was off-putting for me again at this price point. Would need a very compelling reason to convince me to return.

Yelp
All the years living on island, why haven't we stopped before?!?! We've always walked past with reservations in the surrounding restaurants. Big mistake. Last night, we decided to try it. Wow. What a great place! Three separate rooms, teppanyaki, sushi and reg dining. I didn't opt for teppanyaki because it was date night and I didn't want to spend the evening smelling like the smoke. We opted for the reg room. Our server was fantastic. So pleasant, great personality, wonderful suggestions. I was so hungry, I wanted to order everything and she was kind enough to suggest waiting till our meals came out and pacing myself She was right. The portions were more than ample to fill my appetite. We ordered the Hibiki and Irodori courses as we wanted to try a little bit of everything. Also ordered the Hokkaido uni.... YUM... and a few appetizers. The food took us on a culinary excursion back to Japan! So different than the local Japanese fare. Clean, simple, nothing over seasoned or masked by sauces. The flavors of the quality ingredients definitely shined. Excuse me for not taking photos of all the food. I was too busy enjoying it. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
I have been coming here for forever. Real authentic Japanese restaurant with trained Japanese Chef. No cheesy Benihana performance+ We love both Sushi counter and Teppanyaki table options here. They serve real Japanese Wagyu. Not American Wagyu BS! One thing we don't get is why they put bacon in the garlic rice. Not needed. Especially when you are cooking the rice with the delicious wagyu fat!

Yelp
The food is good, but the price point is high, which could stem from the location (?).. Service on the Washoku side can improve. Especially how they place the plate needs to be more precise or neatly done. I like the feel; it is a typical Japanese restaurant in Japan.

Yelp
Not only do they have amazing restrooms (read: bidets!), our meal here wasn't just a meal, it was an experience. We came here with friends who have been here before so we followed their lead when it came to ordering and went with the Irodori Kamameshi course. This was plenty of food to satisfy my stomach and soul, most were seafood centric which was made me even happier! From the sashimi to the shrimp balls (think elevated hush puppies) to the iron pot rice, everything was spot on portion and flavor wise. Our server was absolutely excellent and made for the entire experience which ended with an ube custard/mousse. I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for an experience vs a meal, celebrations or looking to impress someone!

Yelp
Not gonna lie the service is definitely off during lunch.... Had to keep asking for water. And the food took awhile..: menu wasn't properly explained.., wrong food was delivered to me that belonged to the people across from us and from than on they complained and me and my party could clearly hear it. Portions were DEFINITELY smaller. Server explained menu to other table but not ours... I'm not upset it may have been a bad day but personally I didn't enjoy my time..: this time and my food was under seasoned. Also none of the people I usually see working and have been good to me since I was pregnant (my child is 8 now) aren't there =\ the vibe has just changed. But I'll still be back to try again cause I really have always loved this place

Yelp
I grew up in Hawaii so for someone visiting my parents from LA, touristy Waikiki was the last area on my mind when it came to dinner. HOWEVER...my parents insisted and I have to humbly admit they were absolutely right with how Restaurant Suntory is legit, and many others (including my siblings who visited from the mainland as well on separate occasion also agreed with). This restaurant is nestled in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center so parking is convenient for those driving and accessible to those walking- lots to see of course in the area. The space split into 2 sections: one standard dining and the other teppanyaki (grilled in front of you). 1st- let's not downplay the "standard" side. There is an elevated yet not stuffy vibe throughout the entire restaurant and it starts here. The menu is refined as are the actual dishes (the one place pictures actually do justice). I recall having sukiyaki when I dined here last and it was truly excellent. 2nd- this last trip I opted for the teppanyaki section and wow I was impressed. No Benihana-style grill here. I'm used to overly buttered fried rice, and showy presentations in exchange for mediocre dishes. NOT the case here. It was an elegant presentation and each meal came with mini delights (salad, shrimp, etc.) Everything was so delicious and filling. I didn't walk out with a tummyache and reeking of greasy meat air. Also a nice surprise- their mai tai was one of the best I've had on the trip. I always feel those always are too sweet for me but this was the perfect balance and presentation- I don't know what it was except for every detail contributing to it (i.e. iced glass, perfectly cut fruit, etc.) I'm a sucker for details making the entire experience. Finally, service was excellent. There's a real teamwork mentality here so I noticed the staff helping out one another to ensure every customer was tended to and happy. Big fan.

Yelp
The price for lunch is so much more than it used to be. We had sirloin Teppanyaki (1/2" slice sirloin steak and 1 scallop and 1 shrimp w/ salad and miso soup). I had butterfish miso Yaki came with sashimi, miso soup and rice. I enjoyed my meal. Overall it was good but quite expensive for lunch. Service was good and restaurant was clean. I would give 3.5 -4 stars. The bill came up to be $77 plus tip no drink. We got one free hour parking plus if you're a local resident you can go to the concierge and get additional 2 hours free parking. You can also spend $10 and get an hour free then go to the concierge to get two hours free parking for residents.

Yelp
Very overrated and overpriced restaurant. Slow service, one server working entire area. There was no flow to how our food was cooked and served. Brown spoiling lettuce in my salad. The cook cooked one item at a time on the hibachi. Shrimp, then veggies, then protein, the sprouts, then we finally got the miso. And finally 20 minutes later we got the fried rice. All the items were 10-15 between the next course. Cleanliness was lacking. My wife was turned off by how unsanitary things were. Our daughter later became sick. I would avoid this place. There are so many better restaurants that cost way less.

Yelp
Suntory never disappoints when looking for a proper Japanese meal. Washoku lunch sets come with all the comforts of miso soup, kobachi, and pickled vegetables. Portions were adequate to value. Sashimi and Tempura combo - great presentation on sashimi bowl. The sashimi sits on a silver grate above crushed ice keeping temperature cool throughout the meal. Tempura included, sweet purple yam, pumpkin, fish, eggplant, shiso and shrimp. The eggplant was my favorite. It was cooked just perfect. Miso soup had an unusual bamboo flavor undertone but was good as well. The best part of the meal was the rice. I know it may sound strange but the rice was just delicious. The rice compliments all the other accompaniments. We eat rice between other dishes. The highlight of the meal was hands down the rice. Butterfish Set - the butterfish had great flavor. It was broiled to perfection with a slight char. ChawanMushi - it's a comfort thing and I always order this but nothing special for one cup $13. It's not posted anywhere on the menu but they will allow you to order it. Service was great from seating to departure.
