Started out ok but ended as a horrible experience. BE CAREFUL!
When we got there, the waitress lady was really genuinely kind and greeted us with great hospitality and sat us down at our table. The waiter came and asked us if we wanted oysters to start with and we said yes. Which afterwards turned out to be a mistake. My oyster did not taste that good but I did not spit it out. For dinner we picked the 5 course menu and they brought out some usual sourdough bread with some whipped butter which they tried to market it as something really special. Afterwards there was an inconsistent service with some plates being explained and some not. It took them more than 3 hours to serve 3 of the 5 course tasting menu and at one point we decided to skip a course because it was taking way too long. Out of the 4 we tried I really liked the soup and the dumpling and the rest tasted ok. It was very clear that they were understaffed and the owner didn't seem to mind that too much.
The place has an unnecessary aggressive "headchef" / owner as you can read about in some other reviews as well. He came to our table before desert and I could tell he didn't mind his personal hygiene either that much, looking at his hands and fingernails. We asked him if the desert contained any nuts. He said "no" and brought out two little macarons (coin size) and two bite size jelly deserts. My partner has a very severe nut allergy so she asked again if they were sure that the macarons did not contain any sort of nuts. (because they usually make them with almond flour, she said) He again said no, but we could see that he was tipsy and not quite sure of the severeness of the situation. We asked him to ask the desert chef for confirmation and he said "yes, it did". The owner then turned to us and said "I have nut allergy too but I eat the macaron and nothing happens so don't worry" and he had a very unprofessional smirk on his face which made us quite uncomfortable. We had been sitting on an uncomfortable chair for almost 4 hours now in a very noisy restaurant due to lacking of sound proofing on the ceiling and the food wasn't that great and now we had to deal with the drunk owner. At this point the waitress at the beginning understood our frustration and intervened and took the owner away from our table. We just wanted to get out of there after that. We paid the bill and headed towards the exit where the owner cut my girlfriend off and wanted to talk to her. She declined him politely and told him that we had to leave. All of a sudden the owner flipped out and raised his voice at her. Everybody stood shocked. Me, the waiters, the chefs in the background and the customers nearby were all shocked at his behaviour. I intervened this time and had to tell him to back off or else..... He then understood what he did and backed off but I left that place incredibly tense and angry. So angry that I googled the owner and found out that he is a rude aggressive coward of a man who clearly is not a gentleman and thinks it ok to show aggression towards woman. He ruined a great night for me and his nasty oyster worked its magic on me in the morning and I had a very upset stomach for 3 days.
I would never go back to this place again even if they paid me to eat there and I would never ever recommend this place to anyone.
