"Contemporary design and classical elegance merge harmoniously in this dining space, which dates back to 1885 and is part of the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam. The touches of gold in the decor create a sense of luxury. One can almost imagine an Austrian princess walking in at any moment. In this exclusive setting, the talented chef takes you on what will at times be a real adventure. You will immediately notice the use of fresh citrus, exotic spices and produce grown on Dutch soil. Expect vibrant, occasionally daring flavours. The young chef incorporates all this into imaginative dishes that showcase his technical prowess. Just like his team, he likes to come to the table to talk you through his creations. Think perfectly pink-roasted dry-aged lamb accompanied by a patiently reduced lamb jus, anchovies, morels and mushrooms filled with braised leg of lamb and magnolia flowers. Here you will enjoy international cuisine with modern sophistication as its guiding principle. The White Room is a true example of Amsterdam-style grandeur." - Michelin Inspector

"Overlooking Dam Square, this sumptuous white-and-gilt dining room—the oldest in Amsterdam (it dates back to 1885)—is the setting for chef Jacob Jan Boerma’s strikingly innovative cooking. Creative flavor combinations artfully balancing acidity and spice are evident in dishes like tartare of dorade , dressed with lime and olive oil and dotted with fresh wasabi and cucumber granita. The list of mostly biodynamic wines, assembled by talented young sommelier Isabel van Bueren, features some surprisingly interesting and lesser-known labels. Dinner tasting menus are four, six, or eight courses, priced from €65 to €105 ($76 to $124); lunch has two- and three-course tasting menus priced at €32.50 ($38) and €37.50 ($44) respectively. An à la carte menu is also available."

20 Best Restaurants in Amsterdam | Condé Nast Traveler

"The White Room is considered the oldest operating restaurant in Amsterdam, having opened in 1885 inside the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky on Dam Square. Today, renowned chef Jacob Jan Boerma makes surprising use of fruit flavors and aromatic spices in the beautifully-presented dishes that comprise the five-, seven-, and nine-course menus. Think North Sea Crab with beetroot, watermelon, and buttermilk or venison with pumpkin, Delcorf apple, and chicory." - Meredith Bethune

We visited as a couple and had a fantastic evening at The White Room. The CHU-TORO with blueberry and shiso was a perfect start, clean and full of depth. The langoustine was cooked beautifully and felt like one of those dishes you remember long after the meal. The RENDANG was rich, aromatic and surprisingly elegant. For dessert, the CHAMPAGNE & CHERRIES was the ideal finish, light and refreshing with a great balance of acidity and sweetness. Service was warm, professional and genuinely attentive. We left full, both from the food and from the experience. A wonderful night.

Very enjoyable meal with David and his team’s delightful service. David is very knowledgeable and humorous. Food was exquisite and first two courses blew my mind with the flavor explosion. I got the green course (veg) and my bf got the gold course. Both were good.

Celebrated my birthday at The White Room – overall a lovely experience. I made a reservation about half a month in advance, and there was no pressure on seating. I noted in the booking that it was my birthday, and they kindly prepared a greeting card signed by all the staff, along with a dessert of milk pudding with orange. 🍊 I noticed other tables received similar treatment even for birthday celebrations, so I guess it’s just how they do it. We ordered the 6-course Gold menu + one bottle of POIRE wine, which came to around €155 per person. The food was a refined fusion of flavors — definitely not something you could easily recreate with regular ingredients at home. I was super full and satisfied. The ambience was beautiful, with spacious seating and a fancy vibe. Perfect for a birthday or special occasion. 🎉

Visited The White Room for dinner and really enjoyed the evening. The restaurant itself is beautiful without feeling too formal — the historic interior gives it a special atmosphere, but it still felt relaxed and comfortable to spend time in. The menu felt like a reflection of Amsterdam’s own mix of cultures: creative dishes combining local Dutch flavours with subtle international touches. There was a clear focus on fresh ingredients and thoughtful seasoning — you could sense influences from different culinary traditions, which made the meal feel more global and interesting, not just typical fine dining. The variety and balance made it easy to try something new while still feeling familiar and comforting. Service was professional and kind. The team explained the dishes clearly and checked in just enough without being intrusive. It created a nice flow to the evening, and we never felt rushed. Overall, it was a memorable experience that felt like a treat, but not a show. If you’re looking for a refined dinner in Amsterdam that reflects the city’s cultural richness, with good food, a calm atmosphere, and attentive service — I’d definitely recommend giving The White Room a try.

The White Room delivers a solid fine dining experience, with beautifully executed dishes and high-quality ingredients. The tasting menu was enjoyable, though nothing truly stood out as particularly remarkable. The champagne pairing was well curated and complemented the courses nicely. From a cost-benefit perspective, I’d rate it 4 out of 5 stars. At over €500 for a meal, you expect not just great food but also impeccable service. Unfortunately, the experience was marred by the assistant sommelier’s attitude. He was unnecessarily rude and arrogant, making us feel uncomfortable throughout the night. When I expressed gratitude multiple times, he condescendingly asked if I planned to continue doing so—as if being polite was an oddity. He later claimed this was his “icebreaker,” but it only set a negative tone for the evening. For a restaurant with two Michelin stars, service should be a highlight, not a drawback. While the kitchen delivers, the front-of-house—particularly the sommelier team—needs to match that standard.

Excellent evening at the white room. Great places for celebrations - 7 course menu with or without wine pairing. not even counting the multiple amuse bouche you are served in between courses. staff with great attention to details, international, very friendly although keeping it professional which is a great balance. super knowledgeable sommelier - just would like to come back there to learn more about wines. Extra bonus points as we were celebrating a special event, told the staff in a converstion and they surprised us at dessert with a delicious lemon/chocolate pastry. We went for the GOLD menu -- great choice and very different courses that go so well together

One of the best dining experience, definitely worth the star. We visited during the Christmas Eve for the Christmas special menu. The amuse bouche and appetizers are very interesting but can tell that they are "experimenting". Love all the explosion of flavors and especially the fish with vanilla sauce - totally mindblown. Endless stream of desserts that by the end of the service we were very full. Service is on point even though not the friendliest, but deservedly a Michelin star level of professionalism.

A wonderful experience from start to finish. I went for my birthday and was touched to find a handwritten card at the table and a glass of my favourite champagne poured as I arrived: such a thoughtful touch. The Gold Menu was lovely, every course perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The wine pairing was a real highlight too, with each glass from a different country, a lovely detail. The staff were warm, attentive, and made the evening feel truly special. A memorable night in every way.
