Restaurant Vieux Bois

Very nice place, atmosphere is very refined and nice, great views. It is a hospitality school so the service staff is learning. They were very polite but of course we can tell they were students. We were quite relaxed group. Food was amazing, service was slow (we understand), we planned 2 hour lunch and it took almost an extra hour. Suggestion (not a complain): in such international place, service staff should speak English, our waiter tried his best but he couldn't explain any dish in English (we helped, half of the group was only English speakers). All in all, it was a nice lunch but we would have appreciated a faster service.

I knew the Vieux Bois of the past which belonged to the carhegory compabrable to the very good hotels in Geneva. The fact that the school is attached to it did not play any role regarding cuisine or service in those days. Today's experience was disappointing: when asked what wine it was available that goes with the fois gras, none of the classic ones was proposed or available. We were given the list of available wines which traditionally are never served with the fois gras. I consider inappropriate to propose a dish if the traditional wine is not available. The dishes were, in some cases, excuisetilly decorated but the taste was not there. The apprentices that served us, some at least, are not yet at the level they should be: same could not remember what was on the menu, the dishes served to us where sometimes presented to the wrong person, in one instance a dish was presented to us that was ordered by another table. The apprentices are still not at the right level of knowledge and competence to serve dinners. A more accurate selection is needed and those still not at the required level should not be used because they belittle the Vieux Bois. Thank you for offering me the opportunity to express my opinion. Excellent restaurant with great service and wonderful created meals. They are presented very professiobal and are a pleasure just to look at. The vegetarian plates we were offered here were very impressive. We started with a starter made from different carrot slices that were presented in a circle and tasted delicious. The main course was some kind of a potato base complemented with fried tofu slices, which looked like potato toes but were not. Also, the dessert was a pleasure to look at and tasted as well as wonderful. With the coffee we were presented for fried pieces of dough, which I was told were apparently typical swiss, but I did not like them as they were rather dry.

We were in the International District and decided to try this restaurant. My husband read about this culinary school restaurant the day before and since we were in the area, we decided to try it during lunch. They were very busy and glad that they had an open table for 2 since we didn’t have a reservation. The host and our server spoke English and we received excellent customer service. We had one of the best Swiss meals and service during our 2 weeks vacation in Switzerland. We wanted to eat dinner the Sunday before Valentine’s Day but they are not open on weekends.

What a great ambassador to the students chefs and waiters this restaurant is! The Geneva Hotel School houses this restaurant. We arrived with no reservations at 1:30 pm after a tour at the United Nations which is steps from the Vieux Bois. As many Swiss restaurants close at 1:30 or 2 pm, we were pleasantly surprised that they served lunch until 2:30 pm. Service was very kindly and efficient. One of my guests was from the UK and an English menu was available. The menu had few dishes but they were imaginative and of high quality. There were a few vegetarian dishes. Prices are reasonable for the quality. When we left they were setting up for what looked like a birthday or wedding reception, so you may be able to hire out this venue.

The service was supberb. Food was delightfully plated and very delectable. The dessert was impressive. Excellent job for these culinary students 👏 👍! We would be certainly return when we visit Geneva again.

Excellent food and service at a reasonable price. Nice to see great student work at this restaurant. Good news for future of the world cuisine.

Make reservation here immediately if you are coming to Geneva! Located right behind the UN buildings, Restaurant Vieux-Bois is known for its Michelin-rated food and quality service, both brought to you by students of hospitality management in school nearby. We made reservation for a la carte order vs. the prix fixe menu. Appetizers are small (not really sharing friendly), but quality definitely outweighs the quantity, as per usual in these type of restaurants. I ordered the veal for my entree - it was VERY well cooked and the meat was very tender. My husband's bird dish was a bit on the drier side, but had great complementing sauces. For the service and the quality of food, you really can't beat the price here. I would come back here any time.

I thought, the food was very good. Staff was very friendly. Since I've got invited, i can't tell anything about the prices.
