"This restaurant not only has an interesting industrial elegance due to its location in the former transformer station on the Landwehr Canal, it also offers distinctively modern cuisine. The menu features dishes such as sturgeon, onion and pointed cabbage and braised shoulder, black salsify and hazelnut, as well as a few vegan options." - Michelin Inspector

We had a fantastic dinner at Volt, highly recommend. Staying in Mitte and surprisingly few really good restaurants close by. Volt was 10 mins in an Uber and well worth the trip. Ambience is very cool but also romantic. We had the tasting menu and as the Missus is pescatarian they kindly swapped the meat dishes for fish and veggie. Food was excellent, every course. Favourites were the Sturgeon, Fregola, Chestnut soup, but everything delicious. Value for money is exceptional as the Tasting menu price includes a wine pairing which was well thought out generous servings. Lastly service was superb, friendly and relaxed but still professional. All in all had a great time and would def return next time in Berlin

Google
Such a lovely place. I have been going here for the last 10 years. Unfortunately with most high end restaurants, it’s becoming more and more challenging in Berlin. They recently announced their closing by end of this year. Recommend to test it before. The meat is excellent here.

Google
Modern restaurant serving modern German cuisine. Really interesting interior in what was once an electricity substation. Food was on the whole well presented. Cooked to a high standard and very tasty. Great wine selection and option of a craft beer. Very efficient service, in particular because we were a large group.

Google
Nice location. Slow service. Food is pointless, recipes are nonsense (eg a slice of tomato with some goat cheese on top at 19 €) with very few exceptions. The concept behind the menu is confusing and unclear (the menu starts with chicken breast, and continues with sturgeon: the idea behind is unclear). Hugely overpriced considering what they are offering. Not recommended

Very good food and some creative dishes. Our favourite meal during a recent trip. I went with a coeliac friend and they were very helpful with gluten-free options, they even adapted a dessert, yummy date cake, to be GF, and had GF bread on hand. We both loved an amberjack course and I was surprised to really like black pudding in another course.

Google
Well worth the charge The only disappointment of a wonderful meal was the weather. It was so warm that we sat outside on the terrace rather than in the architecturally stunning interior. Either inside or outside though this is a beautiful location by the canal in an area that is popular with locals for relaxation. While you can order courses individually there are two set menus (one for vegetarians) of five courses which you would be recommended to choose. The main menu costs €79 and can be accompanied by a €44 wine selection. Again this is recommended. The menu changes from time to time. There are also a selection of small appetisers to start. Each course is interesting and beautifully presented, served by happy staff rightly proud of such wonderful food. This is modern German food in a wonderful location. Elegance and complexity in the food in an industrial setting built for form (architectural beauty) and function. Not cheap but well worth the cost. Undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Berlin.

Perfect! The food, the service, the setting, everything was more than expected! Even the simplest of ingredients tasted extraordinary. I never thought I'd love a tomato that much. Highly recommend for important dates!

Amazing interior, food and wines and service. One of our favorites in Berlin. We had the five course menus, both versions (veggie and normal) and absolutely loved everything about it. Nothing to improve.

Yelp
Like the name implies, Volt sizzles. From the moment you walk in, you can feel energized. The industrial space reminds me of the revitalization that transformed downtown Los Angeles into a hip happening area. You can't help but smile and feel the light. Every dish is artistic. You just had to take photos to memorialize that art. The Chef is very talented, and you can see it, read it, taste it. My partner got the vegetarian tasting menu, I got the meat. We split. The Chef has a heavy hand w/salt, and when we finally had the courage to say something to the staff, he made corrections. My favorites were the smoked sturgeon and the sea bass, and the dessert mandarin valhrona chocolate. The German cheeses were indeed incredible, as promised The service is wonderful, attentive and professional. Wines reasonably priced and tasty! None of us are perfect so I always say it isn't just how a restaurant/Chef "cooks," it's also how they respond to your palate. Also my policy, the night before a flight, eat a good meal. You never know how long it will be before you eat decent food with airport delays, traffic and so on.

Yelp
Cozy elegant atmosphere. Excellent service, waiters speak perfect English, helpful and friendly. The food is AMAZING, exquisite flavours. Good beers, good wine. Totally recommended.

Yelp
I can't remember how I ended up choosing Volt for our anniversary dinner while we were in Berlin, but I liked the photos and thought it sounded pretty nice without being wanky. It's a large restaurant with a mezzanine seating area which is where they sat us. It felt a little bit like being in a cage but I've eaten in weirder locations, and actually it was quite a nice place to sit, looking over the restaurant and having a bit of privacy. We'd booked for 6pm (I don't know why) and we were the only people there for at least an hour, if not more. That was a little awkward and we actually wondered if they'd opened the restaurant just for us. They hadn't, thank god. We were served a glass of bubbles to start which was nice, as well as quite a few complimentary tasters. The first was served on a box with rocks which was kind of unusual and we were really impressed with the flavours from the outset. Each dish was explained by the waitress and they were happy to answer questions too. There's three set menus to choose from, or you can order a simple entree/main. If you're dining as a couple you don't need to order the same set menu, so we ordered one of each of the meat 5 course menus each. I actually really liked the sound of the vegetarian option but decided at the last minute to go with the first meat menu. Each set menu has one option that you can choose (e.g. a choice between two mains or two desserts) which gives it a nice feeling of customisation. I really enjoyed being able to try both dishes for each course and often I preferred the menu that Graeme had ordered. Stand out dishes for me were the zander & artichoke (mainly because I had no idea what zander even was, so that was pretty exciting. It's fish), seared whitefish with spinach, oats & brown butter and both the desserts - the cheeses and the plum/goats cheese. Service was friendly and helpful and very polite. I really enjoyed our meal here and while it was pricey (over €200) we were celebrating a special occasion, and it was nice to try out some modern German cuisine.

Yelp
Brings a while new meaning to "farm to table". We think they have a farm in the basement, and once your order is in they start growing / slaughtering your food on the spot. The result is delicious - some of the best food I've had - but the time is inexcusable. We sat down at 8pm, a party of three on a Tuesday, and ordered the Volta tasting menu. We finished 3.5 hours later - and not because we wanted to. The wait between each of the five courses was roughly half an hour (perhaps more), with no indication from our waiter or apology for the delay. You may think I'm being too harsh, but I've been to Noma and a hundred other "fine dining" establishments where tasting menus well in excess of 10 courses are served in half the time. What's the deal? Vault is a pass unless you like epic period documentaries or slowly ripping out your own eyelashes.

Yelp
Great food great service great neighborhood. Liked that we could each get our own menu prix fixe

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Berlin ! THE FOOD: does not get better...deliciously prepared selection from a restrained, but varied menu to suit most tastes with selection of great wines. THE SERVICE: does not get better- enthusiastic, courteous and helpful staff. PREMISES: spacious, tables well spaced tasteful unobtrusive décor . THE LOCATION: on the banks of Paul Lincke Embankment with a spacious elevated terrace, great in the summer. PRICES are reasonable for a restaurant of such standard of food and service. The VOLT is as suitable for a cosy date, as for a formal occasion or a group.

Yelp
The food was mediocre to good, the staff decent and decor/atmosphere just fine. But if your going to eat dinner there, DO NOT have any other plans that night and perhaps into the next morning. Bring an overnight bag and some snacks. Your gonna be there a while. My party all had the five course menu, but after 3 courses took over three hours, we told them to keep the other two because we did in fact hope to see something other than their "just fine" decor during the remainder of our trip. When we informed them that we didn't want to spend our entire trip there trapped inside their restaurant, they appeared to have no idea why we might possibly be bothered by the poor, irregular pacing of the courses, many of which as I stated above, were mediocre at best. (Side note: if one more place tries to feed me pigeon in any form again I'm gonna just sit on the floor and cry). Then about 3 or 4 different staff members offered to call us a cab. I walked out feeling about 10 years older with a few more grey hairs.

Yelp
Really nice restaurant, food was great, service was great too. Loses a star because when we got here and it was kindof dead, didn't really have an atmosphere...but the ambience was nice and low-key and perfect for us.

Yelp
Amazing. I got menu 2, which was a non-vegetarian five course meal. For 76 euros this meal was a hit. Service was attentive but slow. I had to wait up to half an hour in between courses, but it may have been due to a group of 40 something people having a corporate event.

Yelp
Unbelievable! Some of the best food - staff - atmosphere - we have ever had. Each component built upon the next. If you are in Berlin and miss this experience you will leave without ever knowing what could have been. Thank you for making the most out of our evening and letting us taste your vision!

Yelp
Great food. Not all of the dishes were to my liking however, nice presentation and delicious cuts. It is a really great experience if you love food and want to get to know creative German dishes ... But, if you are not a wino, the waiters suck at suggestions. I like wine, but if you go with a bottle, it becomes tricky to pair with a multicourse meal that brings out the best of each. Defo a repeat for those special occasions and celebrations - birthdays, anniversaries, so lala, blah, or just because you can. I mean, why not celebrate? Life is awesome. Nice location. Nice decor. I loved the fact that I can go here and then to a dirty basement to party and drink, without walking more than 10 minutes and also because its a "special" restaurant, a multicourse doesnt necessarily mean food coma. Youll be full, pleased, and really ENJOY your eating experience. Eat on and conquer fellow foodies. Eat on.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Upon my arrival into Berlin, I was taken here for dinner and was blown away. Beautiful presentation of the food, a varied selection of items on the menu and incredibly tasty! I had the cucumber soup, which was refreshing on that hot summer night, followed by the best meatballs I've had in my life! I was given five different meatballs, all made out different meats and each was tastier than the last. Also the decor and feel of the restaurant was very cool. This place used to be a plant of some sort and the owners have revamped the place, while still keeping its industrial charm in tact. The lighting was beautiful and all of the furniture was made out of gorgeous wood which was fit for a king. Will definitely return some day. I would not be surprised if this place acquired a Michelin star in the near future!

Yelp
We were able to grab a last-minute reservation while visiting Berlin (recommended by a friend). For mise-en-scene purposes: the restaurant is in an old power station in Kreuzberg by a canal, and the exterior lighting at night made it seem like we were pulling up to a SPECTRE branch office (which I loved). When we got inside, we sat on an upper level catwalk overlooking the main dining room, and I could imagine an alternate use for it as a Thunderdome-style fight club arena (another plus). Anyway, The format is prix fixe five or six course with suggested wine pairing, and you can choose from three menus (one of which is veg). My dude and I went for two different menus (knowing we would share), and the kitchen was really cool about swapping out my first two seafood courses for the ones on the vegetarian menu (as I'm allergic to shellfish). The first two veggie courses I had were my favorite - one was a seasonal medley of vegetables on a thin crisp toast with fresh goat cheese and an amazing sauce, and the other a potato broth that, when combined with a barely poached egg yolk, was so savory that I almost wanted to slurp from the bowl. I also had a really good flank steak that wasn't revolutionary but well-cooked, and a delicious pork cheek with crisp skin. I tasted my dude's sweetbread and lamb courses, which were also pretty good - but I think the menu I chose was superior overall. Our waiter was attentive in a non-pushy way, and we both enjoyed his wine pairing descriptions. At the end of the night, the hostess gave us a delicious terrine to take home with us, which we devoured as a late-night snack.

Yelp
Amazing food & very nice staff, I recommend! The service was really fast & the quality of the food was next level.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant, truly. Many restaurants serve excellent food in a lovely atmosphere with warm and attentive staff. Volt does all of this but adds an element of artistry to the food that adds another dimension to the meal. Not only is the food wonderful, but it is interesting too! Very few chefs are able to pull this off. The room is also quite interesting: an old industrial space that has been made warm and inviting. While not inexpensive, my wife and I felt the price was fair for the quality of the meal. If visiting Berlin, don't miss Volt! It's memorable.

Yelp
We've visited Volt four times since it opened late last year. Alone as a couple and with friends. It has a warm atmosphere, with soft relaxed lighting, in spite of the high ceiling and bare brickwork factory space. Chef Mattihias Gleiß creations are delicious, the wine selection is super, and the wine recommendations from Patricia Calderón Böhme are always excellent. The waitresses are friendly and smiling, though sometimes forgetful of smaller details, such as condiments, bread etc. BUT: The WAITER is simply unsmiling, cold and unfriendly. There is absolutely no subtlety to his service. In a restaurant of this class dishes shouldn't be simply thrust before the diner: a good waiter has respect and consideration for diners conversation and should never abruptly interrupt. Often he has wrongly served dishes without asking who had ordered which, and with no apology switched the dishes. The waitresses, on the other hand, are obviously informed and prepared when they come to the table. This waiter has never once enquired as to wether we enjoyed our meal, whereas the waitresses always do. Friends have also commented on his unpleasant, surly service and attitude. Last time, in spite of a generous tip, we were not wished 'Good Evening', thanked or even received a goodbye as we left with the waiter standing directly next to the door, he simply ignored us. Volt is not an inexpensive restaurant but the food and wine quality match the prices. Sadly the Volt team are let down by their male colleague on the front-of-house service team. We will visit Volt again soon but if we receive the same bad service it will be our last time. This review will be forwarded directly to Mattihias Gleiß at Volt.

Yelp
Tom Dixon lamps for decor above the tables? Oh yes. And the slick design definitely extends to the food. Our table tried a goat ravioli (yum!), scallops and fish, a coconut soup, and a playful corn dish that were all stunningly executed. I'll be coming back here...!

Arlena J.

Yelp
A great location. Classy and original. The food is, well interesting. The service somewhat unfriendly. I dont mind an expensive meal every know and then. But for the prices they have, the food should really be outstanding. All in all completely overpriced though.

Tim O.

Yelp
A great restaurant with original and refined dishes. The atmosphere is welcoming and the location is beautiful. Service was very attentive and friendly. The food prices are fair for the quality you get. The restaurant had been on my to-do list for a long time, and it didn't disappoint. 2 bad points (minor): - the peppermint tea I ordered at the end (€3,50) was terrible. Putting 3 peppermint leaves in hot water is not a 'peppermint tea', it's tasteless hot water. The ginger tea too was disappointing and tasteless (2 small pieces of ginger floating around). - the Crémant we had as aperitif was overpriced (€12 / glass - we hadn't had the drinks menu when ordering, so we didn't know), it's good, but not worth it. This being said, it won't stop us from coming here again (absolutely still worth 5 stars), but we won't be ordering tea or Crémant there again...
