Restaurant Zollhuus

Located in old town Aarau, this hotel offers spacious rooms with high ceilings and a modern decor. Delicious breakfast buffet with a view of the Aare bridge. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Due to the outdoor bar, some rooms are not very quiet.

Food was pretty ordinary for the price. Food is ridiculously expensive in Switzerland but the high prices here did not reflect the quality of the food. The restaurant was almost empty but the service was still poor - the entree wine didn't arrive until after I'd almost finished the entree and no-one ever came to offer me dessert or coffee. I had to go to the bar to pay and then they tried to overcharge me for the burger I had. The restaurant has a nice interior balcony overlooking the bridge which was a small compensation. Not recommended.

A very nice restaurant with a good and diverse menu. The setting, ambiance and service is on point. The outside seating is definitely a plus. So why is it not 5/5? It's because of the food. I ordered a flank steak and really wanted to enjoy my scrumptious looking piece of meat after walking in Aarau all day. I was famished. I wasn't asked how I'd wanted it cooked so I put my trust in the chef's capabilities. And oh boy, that was a mistake! The steak was completely under cooked to the point where it was bleeding. I took a leap of faith and put the first bite in my mouth.... and was shocked to have a piece of meat in my mouth that would put rubber to shame. So here's the thing, I thought I should've made it clear to the server how I wanted my 50 Euro steak cooked. But I was relieved to know that it wasn't just me. My colleagues said their Schnitzels were over cooked and dry! The portions were tiny as well. For a pricey restaurant, the most important aspect (food) was severely lacking. I hope they put a bit more focus and raise the food standard, not only the prices.

My daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful evening with excellent food and fine wine served by a charming, knowledgable and elegant waitress. The 6 course surprise menu was delicious. It's hard to pick out one course that was best but we ended on a high note with the chocolate/pear dessert.

What an experience! Superfriendly and skilled service (Jessica). Drinks and first course was fantastic. Meet exactly as ordered. Will definitely come back again.

The roof top restaurant is lovely in summer, good service, unique menu, really well done, we enjoyed it a lot!

Amazingly delicious food!! Mouth watering Gazpacho is the real bomb 👌, T-Bone is okay, but the side dish seasoned vegetable (Junger Spinat) is really a good combi. 🍻
