Banzeiro is considered one of Manaus’ premier restaurants. Unfortunately, my experience there fell far short of expectations. While the setting and reputation promised something exciting and refined filled with the region’s culinary richness, the flavours themselves felt surprisingly bland.
Dishes that should have celebrated the bold, earthy, and vibrant palette of the Amazon - smoky tambaqui, tangy tucupi, or fragrant jambu arrived instead lacking any depth and balance. We experienced similar dishes at lesser known restaurants in Manaus with much more flavour at a much less price. The food overall was ok but nothing outstanding.
Service, too, detracted from the experience. Before we had even finished our meal, a waiter interrupted with an iPad, insisting we leave a Google review on the spot while he waited beside the table. The gesture felt awkward and intrusive. I politely declined. It shed light on the restaurant’s unusually glowing online reputation, one that, in hindsight, seems more manufactured than earned.
Would I recommend this place, unfortunately no. There are many restaurants in Manaus that do far better.
