The 15 Best Restaurants In Elephant And Castle - London - The Infatuation

"La Fogata is part restaurant, part portal to Colombia. You might step in from a street in Elephant and Castle, but suddenly you’re visiting the Rosario Islands’ otherworldly beaches. Yes, those are just the tourist board-style images plastered over the narrow, small restaurant. But it’s convincingly immersive when paired with shouts of Spanish coming from the kitchen, the sound of regulars chatting away over big plates of bandeja paisa, and the hiss of plantain being fried. Big portions of meat are served with slabs of cornbread, jammy plantain, and disks of arepa. The Colombian food is hearty stuff, but the biggest appeal is the laid-back, family feel, and transportive atmosphere." - jake missing, sinead cranna

La Fogata - Review - Elephant and Castle - London - The Infatuation

"La Fogata is part restaurant, part portal to Colombia. You might step in from a street in Elephant and Castle, but suddenly you’re salsa dancing in Santiago de Cali and visiting the Rosario Islands’ otherworldly beaches. Yes, those are just the tourist board-style images plastered over one side of the narrow, small restaurant. But it’s convincingly immersive when paired with shouts of Spanish coming from the kitchen, the sound of regulars chatting away over big plates of bandeja paisa, and the hiss of plantain being fried. Clearly this spot is popular with those nostalgic for a taste of home, and anyone with a love of big portions of meat—smoky Colombian sausage, grilled beef, salty pork belly. They’re served with slabs of cornbread, jammy plantain, and disks of arepa that demand to be dragged through oozing egg yolks. The Colombian food is hearty stuff, but the biggest appeal is undoubtedly the laid-back, family feel, and transportive atmosphere. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute" - Sinéad Cranna

I'd only eaten Colombian food once before, but knowing they use similar ingredients to Jamaica I wanted to further explore. I decided to head to here seeing the good reviews, and other mouthwatering photos. I loved every dish eaten, especially the plantain that when mixed with some of the meats gave an amazing taste you only seem to get from the Caribbean and South America. The atmosphere is great as you see many other Colombians happy to eat there while also soaking up their culture listening to conversations in S. American Spanish, salsa music, and eating great food!

Incredibly friendly staff, the chef personally came to us to tell us what is gluten free, the waiter recommended us what to try. Plates for 2 are challenging, be ready to take away the rest. Awesome place, you won't be disappointed!

Went here today but the restaurant name is different. The name is La Fogata now. (See pic) The food was really good. They don't have a paper menu (which is good for the environment). The menu is on the outside blackboard listed near the front door, written in Spanish. 😅 Since we don't speak Spanish, the staff told us about their menus of first plate, main course, and dessert menus. We had 1 beef and 1 chicken main dishes. Both come with rice cooked in coconut milk which was sooooo good, grilled selected meat (beef / chicken / pork), grilled potato and a side of salad. It's very busy in the weekend and at the main meal time. So better to come outside these times if you want to get a table. ☺️ Update review 14 Dec’20: We went back for dinner and they have different menus from lunch. For dinner they do have the proper menu book. I had beef board, which was amazing! And my bf had beef with tomato and onions sauce, which also amazing! The dinner time staff speak English, which is very much helpful! And they’re very friendly too! Very recommended!!

Very good food and large portions. The fried meat platter has at least five meats in it and there's more than two people can eat. Good value for £35. The fruit drinks are good and gigantic too.

The steak offered a delightful combination of flavors, though slightly chewy. The remarkably buttery and flavorful rice complemented the dish. The refreshing, cool juices and fresh empanadas with flavorsome sauce added to the overall enjoyable experience.

Google
Fantastically tasty Columbian food at a good price. I had the specials which were beef rib soup and beef ribs served with arepa & rice. For dessert I had the arroz con leche. The service was warm and welcoming. I will definitely return soon! Update 15/4/24 Second time here and the £10.50 lunch special didn’t disappoint. I had the tripe soup starter and grilled beef for main, my friend had the chicken thigh. All of it was very tasty

Google
5 stars all day long! I went here with some friends on a Saturday evening! And I wasn't disappointed! I decided to just have a main course as I had been told by my friend that portion sizes were big and went for the Bandeja Paisa as it reminded of the food and dishes I ate in Ecuador when I lived there. The steak was soft and tasty, the pork belly was flavoursome with crunchy crackling, the sausage also on point. And all the sides of fried egg, avocado, rice, plantain and beans rounded off a very satisfying and filling dish! So yeah, value for money is amazing! Staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive! If you like Colombian food then go to this place! ;D But be aware portions are massive, you might wanna share!
