The Best Italian Restaurants in São Paulo

"Originally located in Mooca, often called the "most Italian of São Paulo neighborhoods," Borgo Mooca is now set in Santa Cecília. It captures the charm of simple cuisine and natural wines in a softly lit dining room, complete with caramel-toned leather and a terrace. The menu is a fusion of technique and Italian soul, with a hint of Brazilian influence. Think dishes like beef tartare with velvety mushroom fondue and lard; zucchini flower stuffed with crab bobó; picanha with tagliatelle in smoked butter; porchetta lasagna; and spaghetti with anchovies. Borgo Mooca exemplifies traditional Italian cuisine with a touch of creative freedom, focusing on seasonal products while offering some contemporary takes on classics." - The MICHELIN Guide

"Mille-feuille carbonara, Tuna tartar sando, Octopus pappardelle alla puttanesca, Beef wellington, Flat iron Wagyu steak are just some of the dishes you’ll find here, a list enhanced by the classic Tiramisu soaked in bardera liqueur, coffee and mascarpone. This gastronomic refuge is located in the Santa Cecília district and features a modern-retro style and uncluttered atmosphere. It includes a bar counter overlooking the kitchen, decoration that is teeming with details on the walls and ceiling, plus a basement bar called Bargo offering an array of superb cocktails. Chef Matheus Zanchini conjures up creative cuisine with Italian nuances, including homemade pasta, all of which is prepared with top-quality ingredients. The menu is updated weekly in line with the availability of ingredients sourced by the chef." - Michelin Inspector

Amazing experience. Place is small but cozy, and was surprisingly chill compared to the hellish weather outside. Attention from the start was immaculate, very polite and attentive, always available and friendly. Food came fast and we had absolutely non issues with it. I had a Ravioli and Scallops entree, which was great, flavorfull and delicate, size was average to smallish. Great place all in all! Definitely recommend.

Had to take out some high level business friends and impress them. Glad we chose Borgo. The food was next to none and the service was exquisite. Thanks Borgo for a great time!

Amazing experience. Squeezed us in at the kitchen bar seats without reservations (very grateful) . Took a little bit to get our main course but definitely amazing food and worth the wait. The appetizer came out very quickly. Presentation was excellent. Most of the staff spoke some english which was nice. Offered a paper menu so it was easier to translate the whole menu at once. Menu seems to change frequently but definitely a must eat place if you are in São Paulo. Had the Ravioli and Scotch Egg. YUM.

Borgo Moóca is a restaurant that got famous for being a reference of good cousine in the Moóca neighborhood, East region of São Paulo, not a traditional restaurant destination. Recently they moved to Santa Cecília, near the city downtown. The new neighborhood and new venue do not have the same charm of the original one, but the move did not change Borgo’s quality. Neither it’s fame. The restaurant is always packed and reservations are mandatory. The restaurant changes its menu in a regular basis, every other week sometimes. Our last visit in June/23 was the first in the new address and the experience was good overall. The dishes were correct and well executed, fresh ingredients and nice presentation. The service is informal and cozy, but correct. The drinks are awesome and perfectly done. The prices however are higher every time we visit. Instagram notoriety is often followed by this price fenomena unfortunately…. For that reason it won’t get the 5th star. At this point I believe we have similar or even better options for more reasonable prices in town.

This place is great! The food is not cheap, but the taste is worth it! They have also good drinks and wine options as well! I totally recommend and would come back anytime! PS: they have a bar downstairs that is quite cozy!

I now know why people love this place. It's like going to my grandma's, but she's not only cooking comfy food, but that with a hint of Michelin star! 😋 Lovely environment, nice tradicional drinks and delicious food! Loved it!!!
