Camelo

"This family-run restaurant is always full despite its location in a part of town most people generally pass through without stopping. Its facilities include a bar, which leads to several pleasantly arranged dining rooms, a large marquee-style space for private functions, plus a huge garden patio for outdoor gatherings. The high-quality and varied cuisine on offer here is typical of the Minho, featuring fish and seafood from its own live tank, with a predilection for lamprey, plus an extensive selection of meat dishes and even a vegetarian menu. When in season, the lamprey dishes are a must!" - Michelin Inspector

Camelo boasts a convenient location with parking right at the door and an impressive collection of Michelin plaques on the façade. We arrived with high expectations, but the dinner was somewhat underwhelming. This is clearly a place for fish, yet the steak turned out to be the highlight of the meal. We skipped dessert and left feeling a bit disappointed. The ambiance is pleasant overall, though the indoor lighting—harsh and almost fluorescent—makes it feel a little cold. Selection of wines is good!

Had an amazing dining experience at Camelo! The restaurant offers a super comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for medium-sized groups. The service was fast and the staff exceptionally friendly—from the moment we arrived until the last dessert, every dish was crafted with care and high quality. We tried the “Posta,” an incredible piece of meat bursting with extravagant flavors that left us wanting more. Follow the staff’s recommendations and you’re sure to have a memorable meal. Highly recommended!

We live in Viana half-time, and Camelo is one of the reasons we settled here. Can't image a week w/o at least one visit. This is where to discover (and then keep eating) traditional Minho food with the best ingredients and preparation. Yes, it's a Michelin guide restaurant for many years running. And appears to have an air of formality. But the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful and "down to earth" -- it feels like a family restaurant. If you haven't tried it yet, do yourself a favor and make the trip.

This is one of the most iconic restaurants in Viana do Castelo where you'll find the most traditional foods made with the best ingredients. Price is a bit steep comparing it with other restaurants in the area. But in my opinion, it will be worth every penny for the food alone and also the friendliness of the staff.

Went for lunch for 3 people, over 80€ without wine or dessert. Staff was rude and arrogant, so much so that im leaving a review on Google, which I’ve never done. We requested a dose (for two people to split amongst 3 of us women, as I was not feeling well and was only having a salad). The waiter understood and confirmed with my aunt, upon the bill charged us 18€ for a third portion and another 7€ for butter we didn’t eat. Certainly won’t be back, as the food is as good as any other restaurant. Went to Minho do Foz the day prior, amazing service, food and right on the ocean for a much better price.

Amazing restaurant…I had the Rojoes and it’s the best I’ve had in my 4 years living in Portugal. Furthermore, the staff was super accommodating and really nice, they offered me to try the Papas Sarrabulho. Many thanks to the staff and see you soon again, as I need to try more from the menu. Sincerely, A happy customer from Miami.
