El Mayoral Review - West Kendall - Miami - The Infatuation

"El Mayoral on Sunset Drive should be at the top of your list when you’re in need of a preposterously big plate of meat. They have two picada options—one for $60 and a half portion for $25. The cheaper picada is big enough to feed four people and includes just about every animal you’d find in a barn: chicken, steak, chicharron, morcilla, chorizo, and beef empanadas. In case that wasn’t enough, there are also roasted potatoes, fries, arepas, and tostones. It’s a meat deal that makes no sense in this economy, but we are not going to ask questions." - Mariana Trabanino

Google
Hands down my favorite Columbian restaurant. I've been coming here since it opened. The food is always high quality. Even the cantina is well priced and gives you plenty of options. I love the caldito they give you when you come in. This year they got a new waiter named Carlos. This brought a level of service that was already good, to a whole new level. I highly recommend this place for any meal.

Google
Excellent food and customer service 👌 Best Colombia 🇨🇴 food I've had in a long time!

Google
The food was absolutely delicious!!! The staff was friendly and the service was quick and constant. I will certainly return!!!

Google
The staff is kind; the food it was good and fresh.

Google
The service is great but unfortunately the empanadas I bought don’t taste like your typical Colombian empanada, they didn’t taste good at all. I ordered chicken and was given the meat ones, even though I repeated the order a couple of times to make sure it would be chicken. It seems like they are home made but they tasted without any seasoning and well completely off. I hope the other food is good but I would not recommend anyone to order Empanadas.

Google
Great food and service, my favorite neighborhood restaurant.

Google
I wish I could give less than one star to this restaurant. I found a live cockroach in my food! I odered a Sancocho Meat Soup and to my surprise it had a live roach eating my food. So expensive and i cant believe they dont have money to maintain a clean kitchen. Roaches are the filthies! This is unbelievable! How dirty this restaurant must be that they are already packing the food full of roaches! Please stay away from this place! I will report this issue to the city!

Yelp
I'm going to keep this short and straight to the point: this place is the bomb. Now, I love trying new restaurants but once I find a dish I love, it's probably all I'll ever order again, sorry not sorry! Today, decided to stray from my usual choice (sancocho de gallina) and opted for some maicitos de pollo, happy to report that they did not disappoint in the slightest! In fact, these maicitos were the best I've ever had, (yes, better than my former favorite Los Verdes maicitos.) These were hot, filled with flavor, and sauced up just how I like them! We also ordered an empanada de carne (delicious! fresh and crispy!) a pan de bono (always good) and an agua de panela (a must try.) I'll never stop returning here, not to mention the service is spectacular. *btw, upon arrival you're greeted with a small cup of their house broth, so delicious!

Yelp
Ajiaco, debe venir con su buen pedazo de aguacate , pero en el rinconcitonpaisa tiene que traer un el aguacate pues todo lo que dan es una muestra ,,, El ajiaco es riquísimo pero le falta su amigo el aguacate

An N.

Yelp
Unlike other restaurants, this place has great customer service. Bandeja paisa, guacamole paisa with chicharron, and chicharron ceviche are a must try. I keep coming back to this place and it never fails to disappoint. Recommended to a few of my friends and enjoyed it.

Lily S.

Yelp
Los peores panes de bono que jamás me he comido en mi vida, sabían y olían a químico, no a queso ni a pan, y eran de porciones miniaturas, un horror y una gran desgracia haber tenido que probarlos y haber gastado dinero en ellos

Yelp
Hands down my FAVORITE Colombian restaurant in Miami! I always recommend this restaurant to all of my friends in west Kendall area. I've eaten here so many times and I just can't get enough. Every time I eat here, they always give us a sample of their sancocho de gallina :)! Boyfriend and I have a few go to but, we rotate them depending on what we're craving at that moment. We usually order their sancocho (gallina or costilla), the super bandeja paisa, empanadas, and their churrasco al carbon. Their portions are big and their prices are reasonable. I think they might have changed owners but, the food and service is still good! Will definitely keep coming back for more !

Thomas S.

Yelp
La comida está mundial. La bandeja paisa y la carne asada son deliciosos. El servicio también es muy bueno
google avatar

Yelp
This is a relatively small place. Won't be able to tell what's going on on the inside. Decor is definitely country, Colombian. They are actually very Good about receiving you well, and the service only gets better from there! As to the corn empanadas, I'll just say yes; and the sauces, yes! My boyfriend had the grilled snapper and I had the whole fried snapper. Both Good! I would like the whole snapper to be a little more seasoned. The tostones were really Good, not too greasy or dry! They had of course rice and beans, which were Good. For me the beans could use some garlic, but overall still Good. They have a cabbage salad that's one of the best I've had. We also had the tomato and avocado salad which was huge!

Yelp
Probably one of the best bandeja paisa I've ever seen. They serve a great abundance of food. Always warm and delicious. Its become my go to for Colombian food in Kendall. The staff is always warm and welcoming. It's a clean and friendly environment. Check it out!

Jose S.

Yelp
Best Colombian food in town. I've been 3 times and always is absolutely perfect! Always been served by Janet. The best !! You need to try the carne asada and the Bandeja Paisa

Francesco D.

Yelp
Food is ok and servers include tip without telling you. Shady business practices. The server we had did not offer us anything, didn't bring us any sauce, and gave us attitude. The server era un gran HP.
google avatar

Emma M.

Yelp
This place is always clean, the staff is nice and most importantly the food tastes great! Complimentary little cup of "consume"to warm you up while you wait for your food. The "cantina" (weekly specials) offers chicken, steak, and fish that you can pair up with white rice and the variety of soups to choose from. The best part: inexpensive tasty Colombian food. They offer a full menu with traditional Colombian dishes like Bandeja Paisa, Sancocho, Mondogo, Patacon and many more.

Yelp
The food used to be good. The management changed and now the food is very mediocre. Along with the restaurant being mediocre, I placed an order through grub hub, when I got to the restaurant they said they never described an order but if we waited they would make the food quickly. Not only did I get the wrong food when I called grub hub to complain they said the restaurant said they received the order and that it was correct. Grub hub basically washed their hands of the situation and the restaurant lied. I wouldn't recommend this place or using grub hub, there are way better colombian places out there.

Yelp
Stop in with the wife she has been craving Colombian food for awhile now and didn't know a spot in the neighborhood. We took our order to go and were not disappointed at all. Super friendly service even got the house broth while waiting for our order. The empanadas didn't even make it down the street we tore them up in the car. The chicken one was moist and flavorful and the beef was delicious. We ordered 2 bandeja paisa and were so good. The chorizo was great not to greasy. The carne asada was flavorful and juicy. Beans were super good. Let's just say we will be visiting a lot more especially since the wife and baby boy she carrying seemed to have loved this place. It's a hidden gem but so worth it.

Yelp
Excellent place, food and service. I felt really nice and comfortable in this place. Typical colombian music is being payed with a very pleasant volume. Attention was superb, you'll feel like family. Like I always say, I'm not picky about food, but definitely this place and it's food is a place to come over and over again. Thumbs up for this restaurant !!!!!
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
The service, food and price are exelent. As Paisas they price themselves as great hosts. Any plate is good. Bandera Paisa, Mojarra or just an empanada....
google avatar

Isamala G.

Yelp
I order like an 50 dollar order. Just to get food poisoning like I had the shirts for days to point had to go to doctor. Do you guys keep your food to health inspector regulations? Or food safety? Don't order the arepa burger taste like cardboard box
google avatar

Nando C.

Yelp
The is the best place where I have gotten a well made bandeja paisa. I'm a very picky eater and like mi food to have flavor and good presentation. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star it's because they forgot to bring our food while everyone else got severed. I was with my wife and when we came in it had only 2 couples sitting. But after 20 minutes of waiting the place got full and people that order after us got there food, while we were waiting. So I asked the waiter and they apologize for the lateness and excuse them selves and our food came out in 6 min. The food was amazing no doubt and the servers are very attentive. I will go again. I recommend this place If you like Colombian food.

Yelp
It's 8:43 am and they're closed . . . VERY DISAPPOINTED I am craving an arepa con queso.

Yelp
Rinconcito Paisa does Columbia a SOLID. And I don't mean the gratuitous pics hanging on their walls of half nekkid chicks wearing their "patriotism" on their breasticles and hoo-has. I'm talking about the authentic, fresh, flavorful, gut-busting food being served up daily at this home-y little hole in the wall. Rolling into a non-descript strip mall in West Kendall around 10am on a Sunday, Hangover Hell in FULL effect, Rinconcito is the perfect antidote to any-given-Saturday's epic alcoholic debauchery. For less than $6, I can chow down a huge heaping portion of scrambled eggs with tomatoes and onions, an arepa (cornmeal cake), a quesito (a slab of cheese akin to queso fresco), a side of avocado and coffee. And because I'm a weekend heffer, I'll throw in 3 fresh-out-of- the-oven rolls of pan de bono. Don't judge - one whiff of the hot steam blowing from a freshly cut roll of this addictive cornmeal cheese bread and any resistance becomes futile. Besides, we wouldn't want to start a somewhat vomitatious discussion on post-partying nosh fests that probably include a box of Entenmann's Cheese Danish and a jar of Cheese Whiz. Word to the wise: The Bandeja Paisa is NO JOKE. Do not attempt unless you've been training to audition for Man vs Food Nation. Steak, rice, plantains, beans, eggs, chicharron, arepa and avocado for $10 and a toilet bowl full of all kinds of fun 4 hours later. For more details, please ask Will j. Rinconcito also hooks it up with a duo of delicious sauces, a spicy tomato-based concoction and a chimichurri, with which to lovingly adorn all of your food. But what really make this place special for me is the service. Attentive, quick, accommodating and oh-so warm and friendly, it feels like I've stumbled into my mom's kitchen, especially on Sunday mornings when the hubby and I have the place all to ourselves with not a soul around to penetrate the mandatory Cone of Silence necessary to alleviate Hangover Hell. Cheap, plentiful, delicious Columbian grub with stellar service makes Rinconcito Paisa a definite no-brainer for some good eats. Now, shut IT until this hangover goes away.

Yelp
When I am in the mood for a good Colombian meal, El Rinconcito #3 is where I go. This place is super close to my house, and while I love this location I do have to disclose that I've never tried the other Rinconcito Paisa's around town so I can only speak for this location. The first few times I ate here was just for dinner. Usually I'll go with a steak which comes on sizzling hot skillet that the delicious smell just steams off of. (you will need to shower after one of these because there is no way to leave without smelling like the steak) The empanadas are deeeelish, I usually get the meat one but I have tried the cheese one several times and enjoyed it as well. The aji on the table is so yummy and spicy, I put it all over everything! Oh, if you ask for some avocado here they give you an entire avocado. And they are always good too, haven't had a bad one here yet. We've brought my husband's parents here (his dad is Colombian and loved it), we've brought friends and my brother & sister-in-law. My SIL is from Portugal and she loves seafood. She ordered the pargo frito and she loved every last bite of it. Just beware, they serve it the traditional way which is the full fish, bones, head and all. I've been here a few times for breakfast already and it is a GREAT deal. If you get the calentado it's only $6 for steak, egg, beans mixed with rice, chicharron and an arepa. It also includes a coffee or chocolate. Go with the chocolate. You won't regret it. (I am willing to suffer some discomfort from my lactose intolerance to enjoy the deliciousness that the hot chocolate here is)
google avatar

Alina R.

Yelp
3 1/2 stars. Yummmm yummy yumm. I had breakfast here on Sunday and had their "calentado" which is a platter of rice and beans, a chicharron, a fried egg, a steak, and an arepa. It comes with hot chocolate or coffee. WOW. This is enough food to last all day! It's cheap, too! The place is a little Colombian restaurant in a strip mall. Nothing to look at, but somewhere to eat for sure!! I can't wait to do it again.
google avatar

Karysa P.

Yelp
Very unhappy with our visit to this location! Not only small, but service was terrible!!! The food took long, and to top It off my daughters chicken had a long human hair deep fried into it (DISGUSTING!!!). Manager wasn't even kind enough to come over to our table and apologize. Simple stared from far away and kept along with his personal business at the table he was sitting at. Will never return to this restaurant again!!!!
google avatar

Raul M.

Yelp
....I am big fan of Colombian food, festivals, women, and did I say food? If you'd like to have a little taste of Colombia, I recommend this restaurant. You'll find everything in here as close as authentic as possible. From the decor to the food on the plates. When I visited, I was with a friend of mine that was in a bit of a rush. As we explained our predicament to the server, we asked him to surprise us with whatever is fastest. Bandeja paisa all the way! A little bit of everything and a chicharron! I loved it. Located in a busy strip mall next to a U-Haul rental location, parking can be a challenge. Usually packed for lunch, I recommend going on a Saturday just after 12:00 pm - You will get the best service and attention. I always recommed paying the bill with your credit card, but tipping in cash... your waiter will appreciate it!
google avatar

Jules G.

Yelp
Good Colombian food, great service and the quantities served are generous. I will be back!

Gianna L.

Yelp
This restaurant through out the years and lately has been deteriorating, the portions the servings and the quality of the food is not as good as it used to... I been coming here for many years... today I ordered a craving of mine Bandeja paisa , the steak that came with it was the size of my palm, the chicharrón it always comes with is big juicy, and almost always occupies the whole plate today it was a finger length and dry... and to top it off the food wasn't really hot it was just warm... very disappointed.. I'll be visiting other COLOMBIAN restaurants to replace this one of my favorites...

Esther G.

Yelp
I order from these place tostones con camarones and came with a cucaracha . Horrible place to eat.
google avatar

Kristina L.

Yelp
Amazing Bugnielos, SO DELICIOUS ! I Would recommend this restaurant to anyone that is in the mood for some good, authentic, columbian food. Plus, great service, the servers are prompt and attentive. So, If you want promising empanada that do not disappoint, look no further... El Rinconcito Paisa is the place to be.
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
Did not like the food at all. The empanadas were pretty nasty, couldn't finish it and they gave me a huge container with soup that was uneatable. Totally wasted my money.
google avatar

Tesoro C.

Yelp
Delicious food, comforting to the soul. A perfect breakfast for anyone who enjoys Columbian food

Ana L.

Yelp
I have been eating in this restaurant for years. Now I had never had a problem until today. I took a friend from out of town to try the Colombian food I thought was delicious. My friend ordered a plantain soup and after a few spoonfuls she discovered a cockroach in there!!!!!!! We proceeded to stay calm and called a waitress nearby to show her. She took the spoon with the roach in it and did not apologize! I had already received my food and had only taken one bite. Obviously I was done. I called our waiter and he asked if he had taken a picture, which then we realized that we should have and report it to the health department. I let him know that I would like to talk to a manager or owner. The same lady from before returned, and I told her that we were done. She then insinuated that it was too bad for us because we had already touched our food. So instead of apologizing or offering some sort of compensation, she did nothing to help us with our discomfort and inconvenience. We walked out and as I exited the door, I voiced over to the rest of the customers that we had found a roach in our soup. Never ever ever eat here! Trust me!

Sandra T.

Yelp
This Colombian spot is old school. Drove a long way. Authentic and fresh! Cazuela de mariscos is full of seafood. Mojarra is HUGE, coconut rice is amazing.
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. It's small but cozy with its rustic decor, you'll feel like you're eating in some ranch in Colombia. Their enpanadas are always freshly made and tasty. The bandeja paisa which is a meat and sausage sampler of sorts is always delicious and very filling, my girlfriend and I always share that one. The service is always on point regardless of how busy it may be and the prices reasonable. Two thumbs up.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
We were in Miami area last week and we stopped here to eat. it is a small place located next to a Winn Dixie. The atmosphere inside was very Colombian indeed. The food was very good and the prices were fair. I think for Colombian food and the price you can't go wrong. No faltes!
google avatar

Lourdes P.

Yelp
Yummy red beans just like how my Cuban great grandmother makes them..R.I.P. and their soups are so good, too.
google avatar

Claudia V.

Yelp
Being that my mother is Colombian (making me half Colombian). I think I know a tad about Colombian food. This place is hands down one of the best Colombian restaurants in Miami. I love that they are quick and attentivel. Every server there gives a personal touch to their service prompting the customer to come back. It's a small, yet initmate place. However, a great pace to catch the latest Colombian soccer game. #vamoscolombia

Miriam F R.

Yelp
I tried this place last Wednesday and it was a big disappointment. The place is dim, and the food is not at all any good. This place has been given too much hype. The waiter didn't get our order right. I had the "sobrebarriga" which was so thin, it seemed they were rationing the flank steak, it was dry and hard. The fried green plantains were already ripe, and of course, it tasted sweet. My companion had some kind of soup which was supposed to have "corn on the cob" among other things(sancocho de gallina), but it did not. Mind you, the ad this place runs shows the corn. The flatware was not too clean neither. Oh, I forgot to mention, not all the menu selections were available. No surprise there. I wasted my money at this place, oh well! It will not happen again! I'll be generous and give this place 1 star, and that's an overrating!

Francelia C.

Yelp
Such a very long day at work, was craving one of there best dishes I arrive at 9:25 and the doors are locked. Before I arrived I checked yelp for the time, closing time was 10:00 pm. Truly disappointed
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
This Place is Wonderful Excellent Customer Service And The Food Outstanding Everything Is Cooked Fresh

Cynthia A.

Yelp
Runny eggs(Colombian eggs are usually runny but this was out of hand) no pan de bono, no bunuelo, carne asada was really palomilla and was vinegary and reheated, needless to say it was not a good at all. The conversation with friends was the only good thing in the establishment was the empanada, Aguacate and the hot chocolateI, I don't recommend breakfast here. If there was an option to put zero star, that would be my rating.

Andres M.

Yelp
I always enjoy eating at this location. The food is very consistent and the prices aren't too high. Great soups.

Juan S.

Yelp
i decided to visit rinconcito paisa #3 for the first time since we love colombian food. beware!!! they served me raw chicken!!! horrible management and horrible cook! after i showed the waitress the uncooked chicken, the manager came over. she laughed at the situation and did not offer any apologies. instead of offering to pay for my plate or a portion of it, she immediately said it was my fault for eating the chicken!!! which they cooked and served me!!! i should have read yelp before going since one of the reviews mentions a cockroach in the soup. after reading that review and my own personal experience i highly recommend everyone stay away. i would not recommend this location to my worst enemy. as an alternative, i highly recommned rinconcito paisa #1. ironically this much better location is in the same shopping center, and actually served cooked chicken.
