Rinconcito Paisa does Columbia a SOLID.
And I don't mean the gratuitous pics hanging on their walls of half nekkid chicks wearing their "patriotism" on their breasticles and hoo-has.
I'm talking about the authentic, fresh, flavorful, gut-busting food being served up daily at this home-y little hole in the wall.
Rolling into a non-descript strip mall in West Kendall around 10am on a Sunday, Hangover Hell in FULL effect, Rinconcito is the perfect antidote to any-given-Saturday's epic alcoholic debauchery.
For less than $6, I can chow down a huge heaping portion of scrambled eggs with tomatoes and onions, an arepa (cornmeal cake), a quesito (a slab of cheese akin to queso fresco), a side of avocado and coffee. And because I'm a weekend heffer, I'll throw in 3 fresh-out-of- the-oven rolls of pan de bono. Don't judge - one whiff of the hot steam blowing from a freshly cut roll of this addictive cornmeal cheese bread and any resistance becomes futile. Besides, we wouldn't want to start a somewhat vomitatious discussion on post-partying nosh fests that probably include a box of Entenmann's Cheese Danish and a jar of Cheese Whiz.
Word to the wise: The Bandeja Paisa is NO JOKE. Do not attempt unless you've been training to audition for Man vs Food Nation. Steak, rice, plantains, beans, eggs, chicharron, arepa and avocado for $10 and a toilet bowl full of all kinds of fun 4 hours later. For more details, please ask Will j.
Rinconcito also hooks it up with a duo of delicious sauces, a spicy tomato-based concoction and a chimichurri, with which to lovingly adorn all of your food.
But what really make this place special for me is the service. Attentive, quick, accommodating and oh-so warm and friendly, it feels like I've stumbled into my mom's kitchen, especially on Sunday mornings when the hubby and I have the place all to ourselves with not a soul around to penetrate the mandatory Cone of Silence necessary to alleviate Hangover Hell.
Cheap, plentiful, delicious Columbian grub with stellar service makes Rinconcito Paisa a definite no-brainer for some good eats.
Now, shut IT until this hangover goes away.
