"Occupying the same street as its elder sibling (the one-Michelin-star Código de Barra, Contraseña is run by Léon Griffioen, a chef and errant spirit originally from the Netherlands who decided to unpack his suitcase for good in the “little silver cup” as Cádiz is affectionately known in Spanish. His modern, cheerful cuisine, with its roots set firmly in tradition, always aims to showcase local flavours and is centred around an extensive tasting menu with a wine pairing option. Here, guests are encouraged to eat with their eyes, discover with their sense of smell, and savour with their tastebuds!" - Michelin Inspector

We did the 7 course degustation for 38.5 euro plus the wine pairing for 25 euro. The food was excellent and started out on the small side but we had plenty by the end of meal. The wine pairing was interesting, went well with the food and glad that we did it. The service was impeccable. Wished we would have found it earlier in our month’s stay in June 2024. Would highly recommend for the great value.

We had a beautiful evening. The restaurant is elegant and intimate, the staff attentive, professional and really friendly. Amazing wines, by bottle and glass. The food was great as well, so all in all, complete satisfaction and highly recommended! More expensive than other restaurants, but as well higher level, so definitely worth the price.

With such abundance of Michelin recommended restaurants in the region, we didn’t think we would come here twice in one week. But here we are. Original dishes beautifully presented and delicious. First time we took their tasting menu of 9 courses and were completely overwhelmed (could barely stand up from the table). Second time we went a la carte. They have the best so called Russian salad in the whole spain. Not sure why it’s still called this way through. Garlic prawns were excellent so was marinated mackerel. Out of the main courses we would single out omelette with oxtail stew. Local prawns crisps were amazing. All three desserts we tried were excellent- strawberry with cream, brownie with ice cream and pear. Great wine list and service too. Last but not least, the olive appetiser was an amazing surprise. Great value for money

Amazing meal at Contraseña! Loved every dish of our yummy tasting menu. I loved the tortilla de camarón, the gambas al ajillo and the torrija was one of the best I’ve had!

What an experience! Michelin guide suggested as a such a low price: 38.50 euro for menu classico and about 52.50 euro for the seasonal menu. Such high quality dishes and great service. And...cuidado con la aceituna!

Wow. One of the best meals of my life. If you’re in Cadiz COME HERE!! I had garlic prawns with sherry, wild tuna with pepper sauce, and French toast with thyme ice cream. My husband had sweet bread with mushroom, wild boar with roasted sweet potato, and goat cheese ice cream with pear. All of the food was excellent. Excellent service. And a beautiful bottle of wine. Perfect afternoon off the cruise ship.

Lamb dish had a crawling maggot … ive been around the world all kind of restaurants and have never in my life encountered a live maggot in the dish. The reasoning that “these things happen in nature” is not cutting it for me. I would give this -5 stars if i could. Just sickening ! Wish i had taken a picture but they were quick to remove my plate and my disgust got the best of me.
