The 35 Best Restaurants in Cartagena, Colombia | Eater

"Located on the first floor of Bastión Luxury Hotel, El Gobernador offers a menu designed by award-winning Bogotano chef Jorge Rausch. The chef applies haute French techniques to local ingredients, producing dishes including the risotto-like arroz cremoso with coconut milk, achiote (annatto), and cilantro, sea bass with Gruyere crust, fondue, and “leeks cappuccino.” Don’t skip dessert, when you might find pistachio dacquoise with compote of corozo and cotton candy. The space is divided into a main salon and a quiet mezzanine for more private diners, and there’s an outdoor patio where guests can enjoy lunch. [$$ - $$$$]" - Juliana Duque

Where should I start with this incredible restaurant? It was my first visit to Cartagena with my husband, and we discovered this restaurant via Google recommendations for Cartagena dining. I'm thrilled I had the chance to dine here twice during my stay of four days. The service and attention to detail were flawless. Luis and Henry went above and beyond in providing outstanding service. The flavors of the dishes were exceptional, from the introductory breads to their ceviches, and the black fettuccine is an absolute must-try. I definitely plan to revisit Cartagena in the future, and a return to this restaurant will be on my agenda.

I took a friend here for their birthday and it was amazingly impressive! Thanks to Henry the waiter and other staff who made the experience one of the best I have ever had. The food and drink selections were great along with the restaurant’s decor.

First the good things: great atmosphere, and service. Beautiful hotel and lounge area. Drinks were strong. The food was hit or miss. We were a party of 9c so we ordered a lot of things. It may have been the size of the party which complicated the timing of the food prep. For example the skin on the salmon looked like it was perfectly prepared, but by the time it got to us the skin had lost it’s crispness, and salmon was a tad over cooked. The flavor of the risotto was very good and the steak was excellent. The black ink pasta with shrimp was delicious. The grilled shrimp on the other hand was way over cooked and chewy, which is a shame because you can taste the nice char on it. The pork belly was really good (I would have liked it to be slow cooked more so that it’s more tender) but it had a super crispy skin as it should. The octopus looked beautiful, but it was drowned by all the different sauces that detracted from the flavor of the octopus itself. The sea bass with Gruyère was a gamble, it wasn’t bad, but we didn’t expect much from it. I would give the food 3 stars because they can be so much better with small attention to detail and editing some of their dishes. Expect to pay a minimum of $50 a person, so at least half of what you’d pay in the U.S., so a huge bargain especially how nice the service and the atmosphere was. Definitely go early and get a couple of drinks first.

Great food, amazing service and perfect price. In addition to that, my mother in law needed a medicine, so she asked the staff there and they went to the drugstore and brought her what she needed! No wonder why they won a prize in 2016. I recommend it without hesitation. I don't even have any negative note to mention.

Restaurante El Gobernador Local, cartagenan style food with a modern twist. Being in a great ambience this restaurant offers a memorable experience combined with great food. Starter breads: they give you a small variety of home made breads, very tasty! Starters: We tried then ceviche cartagenero, Grilled Octopus and Lobster and fresh paws au gratin. They first was ok not great, the Octopus just ok while the lobster was a great surprise. Main dishes: Sea bass with gruyere crust, was good specially the gruyere crust. Meat cubes posta Cartagenera style, the meat was delicious soft tasty worth repeating. It comes with sweep plantain which are good and the coconut rice was memorable! One of the restaurants you should try in Cartagena.

Wow! What a fantastic experience. We made reservations for 4 and were seated right away. There is a dress code of shoes and no sandals for men, and we were sat on the patio because of it. Our server Jeorge was attentive, very knowledgeable and paid attention to our change requests. The food was beautifully platted and delicious. Well be back here for sure!

Went there for dinner and the food was spectacular. Even the complimentary house bread was incredible. Service was excellent too. Only downside was that a DJ began playing EDM which completely ruined the atmosphere of this beautiful and classy restaurant.
