SO, SO DISAPPOINTING – not worth the hype.
A charming little spot with tasteful decor and genuinely delicious food (although not enough to justify the price tag).
What truly let the experience down, however, was the service. We had a reservation for 20:00 and arrived punctually, only to find the restaurant door closed and four or five staff members seemingly engrossed in conversation.
Once seated, the service was riddled with issues. There appeared to be no system in place; staff were dashing about in a disorganised manner, resembling headless chickens. We requested water which never arrived, and the servers seemed unfamiliar with the (very limited) menu, unable to guide us through it. They were also oddly insistent that we order more food – which, thankfully, we declined, as three dishes proved more than sufficient.
Guests were frequently being moved between tables, and it was unclear whether there was a seating plan in operation or whether something had gone awry that evening. The staff appeared disengaged and rather unhappy to be there, which inevitably affected the atmosphere.
Tables inside are uncomfortably close to one another, and the poor acoustics make it difficult to hold a conversation.
I take no pleasure in writing this, as it’s clear that a great deal of thought has gone into the concept. However, if the restaurant is to live up to its potential, serious attention must be paid to recruiting and properly training the front-of-house team.
