A Meat Lover’s Paradise in Vejer de la Frontera
If you’re visiting Vejer and love meat, La Castillería is an absolute must. This place is legendary—and rightfully so. We came without a reservation (which I wouldn’t recommend), but luck was on our side and we managed to grab a table at 1:30 PM. The place was already jam-packed, and it’s easy to see why.
We started with the blue cheese and artichoke salad. It was rich, creamy, and flavorful—slightly too creamy for my taste, but still very enjoyable. Then came the eggplant with minced beef, and honestly, it might have been the best eggplant dish I’ve ever had. The flavors were deep, savory, and unforgettable.
But the real showstopper? The leg of lamb with enchilada seasoning. Cooked to absolute perfection, it had just the right amount of salt and spice. I don’t say this lightly—I’ve never enjoyed a piece of lamb quite like this before.
We also shared a grilled veggie plate to balance things out, which was fresh and nicely prepared.
La Castillería isn’t just another steakhouse—it’s one of the best meat-focused restaurants I’ve experienced in all of Europe. Make a reservation, come hungry, and prepare to be impressed.
