"With its location just a few steps from the Retiro, this restaurant is usually full every day and is well worth considering if you find yourself close to this stunning park. With a history dating back over a half a century, this family-run business has had a facelift and now features a more contemporary bar plus a Nordic-inspired dining room. The culinary theme remains the same, however: honest cooking on an extensive à la carte that always features a game dish, plus excellent set menus (Clásico and Degustación). The prawns in batter dish is one of the most popular on the menu here." - Michelin Inspector

We ordered the 8-course tasting menu, which largely consisted of seafood. First some smaller shared dishes, then some larger individual dishes. We especially liked the half-grilled prawns and tuna belly. Although the food was good, we would not recommend this place. The service was mixed - some of the staff were friendly but some were not. As a couple we were seated in a separate area next to a group of 12 people. Although one of the waiters apologized for that when we left, it had already left us feeling quite uncomfortable.

We took the classic tasting menu for €48 and it was wonderful. Portions were generous and every dish was delicious. We loved the battered prawns and tuna dishes. Staff are friendly and can speak English and have printed menus in English.

Had the Tasting menu and found it to be an incredible value given the generous food portions and quality of dishes served. The 9 course meal started off with an amuse plate of lightly fried shrimps, followed by shaved tuna with wasabi, fried battered red prawns, half grilled prawns, tuna belly with black garlic aïoli, Corvina with mushrooms tomato confit (full portion sized fish), puff pastry with partridge, and dessert consisting of a french toast brioche, passion fruit ice cream chocolate fritters. Wines were also reasonably priced as we had a lovely bottle of Unzu rose. Service was attentive and friendly. My only complaint is that the initial five dishes came out a bit too fast, as we barely finished the earlier dish and was still discussing it before the next dish arrived.

Came to La Monteria because of the Michelin bib gourmand recommendation and wasn’t disappointed. Food was fresh and prepared properly. The free appetizer of sweet prawns was appreciated. The wines by the glass from Rioja and Catalonia were very affordable and crisp! Michael our server was very attentive and had great attitude. They even allowed us to keep the luggage there for a few hours while we shopped in the area after dining there!

Hardcore Spanish menu, full of seafood and fish options. Definitely have to reserve, if you are visiting would recommend you take a look at the menus before to understand the different dishes. Have salon and barra, always full especially on weekends. If you want to eat like a local, come here and they will treat you great. Great prices, around 50 euros a person with full range of food and drinks for a great feast. Would go back for sure

A memorable 48 EUR 9-courses menu dinner in addition to complimentary crispy shrimps as aperitif, absolutely fantastic. Everything was refined and delicious. One of our best experiences ever.
