Yelp
La Paloma is an old fashioned classic Spanish restaurant. By "old fashioned", I mean old furniture, white linens, and no tourists. Staff does not speak English, but can figure out your needs with some hand gestures. The menu is Basque, so there are lots of seafood items.
I opted for the tasting menu, which is usually what I get at a new restaurant. There were a few items that I liked, and a few items that I wish I hadn't spend any calories on. I generally liked the appetizers more than the entrees, however, nothing really stood out that would make me return again.
Likes:
* Gratineed bay scallops
* Crispy prawn rolls
* Apricot soup
* Puff pastry apple tart
So-so:
* Grilled sea bass with a tomato and thyme compote
* Roe deer baked with red fruits sauce
Dislikes:
* Carpaccio of foie gras
The tasting menu includes a glass of white and a glass of red wine, which do go well with their fish and game meats. I have never been to Basque region, but hope Basque food is better than what was offered here.
