Las Tortillas de Gabino

"Impressively run by two siblings, this restaurant adopted its name in homage to the chef at La Ancha, a popular restaurant in Madrid that was founded by his grandfather in the 1930s. Las Tortillas de Gabino is located in the heart of the city’s Chamberí district, where it features a cosy entrance hall, a private section, a glass-fronted wine cellar, and two contemporary dining rooms which interconnect via a corridor that leads to the kitchen, which is always visible to diners. The updated traditional menu is complemented by a superb choice of omelettes (tortillas), the most popular of which are the traditional potato-based Velazqueña, and the Trufada." - Michelin Inspector

We had a booking so that made things easier as the restaurant was packed. It was a great dinner the food is outstanding. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine. From the appetizer to the main…just beautiful. I would definitely go again. It’s a really good restaurant just a bit busy but it didn’t bother us. The staff is very nice, food came in fast we didn’t have to wait. Thank you, I will definitely recommend it to everyone.

Exceeded expectations. High quality ingredients and clear lots of technique and care has gone into the food. The bone marrow was very generous and absolutely delicious. we also ordered the navajas and zamburiñas. All fantastic.

Incredible. Every single bite was delicious and well seasoned. The tortillas and the Iberian meatballs were highlights. Also the tomato salad had the freshest tomatoes I’ve ever eaten. Wonderful service experience.

A charming restaurant located in a quiet neighbourhood where the ambience is calm and inviting. The food we had was very well made and nicely presented and served. It's our impression that sharing is what's most common as waiters serve you from the main serving dish. We didn't didn't know this so it was difficult to anticipate how much food we each should order. For two people, I'd recommend two starters, one tortilla to share, and one main ("after") to share. Our favourite dishes were the razor clams and truffle tortilla, so highly recommend trying both. The iberian meatballs were also incredible. A few low points were that we bought a bottle of wine, and noticed fruit flies in my glass after the wine was poured. We pointed out it to the waiters and asked for a new glass. We weren't compensated for the glass of wine that we "lost" and also had to pay for bread that we didn't eat - it was already on the table when we arrived, so we had no say in the matter. I found the service lacking considering these aspects. Aditionally, the experience with the waiters was very mixed. One stood out as very welcoming whereas other were not so much. The food was worth 5-stars but the varied service experience is enough for me to consider this a 4-star experience overall.

Our group tried the classic tortilla to-go. We enjoyed it very much — they’re on the runny side which is a good thing! Tasty on sourdough bread :)

Google
Elegant but still casual, delicious dinner with lots of great menu options. Absolutely worth the visit. We started with the cheese croquettes which were really good but not a necessity. The bone marrow on the other hand is a must. They caramelize it at the table and it was fantastic. As were the razor clams with the melters cheese on top. We then went on to the duck which comes out pretty rare but has a glaze and chutney that really adds a lot of flavors and layers. We finished with the cheesecake where they use 3 types of cheese, very different than what we’ve normalized in the United States but still very delicious. The staff was friendly and worked with our broken Spanish and made some great recommendations for wine pairings. Loved it and would love to come back on my next trip

Google
As the name suggests, this place is renowned for its tortilla. Not the ones you see in most places but a good runny one, plain or with onion. Vegetables/salad are scarce on the menu so we opted for the overpriced sliced tomatoes.

Found this wonderful restaurant close to our hotel. Superb service. Food was plentiful and so good. Clearly cheese and Iberian ham make every dish special. A wonderful relaxing time with a relaxed environment to enjoy and savor each dish.

Yelp
Doubt this review will have much affect on a place with a Michelin star but if I was that publication I would investigate the reviewers as most have been paid as this is not even Michelin recommended let alone a starred restaurant. The bone marrow had this glaze that overpowered the marrow. Whoever salted the tomatoes had a heavy hand as got more salt flavor than tomatoe which could tell with few that avoided the salt were good. They had hard bread waiting on table which we got charged for though did not ask for them. The Foie gras bonbbons were good. There speciality dish tortilla were good as not often get ones with truffle. My dessert was similar to what have gotten at a TGI Fridays. Liked the wine which was affordable. Not sure had larger list as menu we got was limited

Yelp
Best meal we had on our 10-day trip around Spain. Don't leave without trying the bone marrow!!!

Yelp
Amazing food! You have to try the crispy octopus. Came here twice during my visit and it was amazing both times!

Yelp
Very glad we did a little research around the area we were staying. We ended up choosing this place because it seemed more of a local formal dinner, which is what we were looking for. We ended up having a delicious and extremely filling dinner of razor clams, truffle tortilla, steak and delicious pork. It was an unbelievable meal as everything was cooked to perfection. The waiter was able to recommend a good affordable wine to go with our dinner and the entire experience couldn't have been better.

Yelp
This was truly a fantastic experience! The service was outstanding the food flawless, and the venue was pleasant for casual, dating, family, whatever. We had grilled octopus, truffled tortilla, duck, steak, and a dessert. Let me start off by saying I obviously don't speak very good Spanish. No worries, the waiter was very helpful and not shy to recommend some of his favorites. All of the food was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and to put it simply - it was awesome! Do not hesitate on this one, you will not be disappointed. If I had to pick a favorite dish, I simply cannot. Each one was a masterpiece. Each one flavorful and fresh. Enjoy!

Yelp
I spotted this on Yelp when looking for somewhere to eat near the Museo Sorolla and got EXTREMELY excited at the prospect of a merging of tortilla and truffle, two of my favourite things. I arrived soon after opening and got a good spot overlooking the restaurant. In fact I think there is at least one other room but am not sure overall how big it is. I managed to get a seat without a problem on a weekday lunchtime but I think booking would be advisable for evenings and weekends. They have an online reservation system (although not for solo diners!). I ordered a mushroom croquette and foie pastry to start both of which were just incredibly delicious. I kept taking tiny alternate bites of each deciding which one was most delicious, but it was very close. Best to order both. I was almost going to order a traditional tortilla as didn't want to miss out on the potatoes and get something too rich but in fact the truffle tortilla does contain gooey perfect potatoes and the truffle is not too heavy. A really enjoyable dish I would not hesitate to recommend. Do note that they charge you €1.50 for bread even if you do not eat it, I tipped less than usual as a consequence but that was not to criticise the service - the staff were all really lovely and took good care of me. Although prices are quite high for the main courses which would follow a tortilla in the evening, for lunch I thought it was good value for the quality and elegant environment. Am very keen to return to try the torta de queso tortilla!

Yelp
Wonderful! I came by alone about 3pm yesterday (Sunday). The restaurant was pretty full, and I half-expected them to not seat me in order to hold a table for a couple or group. Nope, they seated me right away. Service was excellent. Very professional and amiable. Many of the tables with two or more people were treating the dishes as tapas, passing dishes around so everyone got to try a bit of everything ordered. This is Spain; there's no problem with that. I couldn't do that, of course, so I started with a bowl of the gazpacho (delicious and highly recommended on a hot day!!) and finished with the tortilla velazqueña, The tortilla came out in an earthenware casserole. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, soft but still with some structure. They offer several styles of tortilla, even one with truffle. Those two dishes along with a beer left me stuffed. I'd definitely go back, preferably with a small crowd.

Yelp
Perfect dining experience! Found this place on yelp and the staff was so attentive and kind and friendly. We didn't have a reservation but they made a table for us around 10pm. All of the food on the menu was surprisingly affordable for the overall ambiance and quality. The restaurant seems to be upscale because it's very well decorated, but again not overpriced! We had an array of tapas to share between 4 people and they were so nice as to adjust the number of portions of each dish so each of us could try everything :) Each dish was unique and amazing. We had no complaints and left feeling very satisfied. Easily one of my top dining experiences and I can't wait to return.

Yelp
Walked-in on a Thursday night at 9:30 and this place was pretty much filled up. Had the truffled tortilla & the gallega octopus tortilla, the dish of the day scallop and finished up with torrija. The tortillas both have their uniqueness, presentation and textures so I really can't say which I like more. Also their mantequilla is thick and good! Friendly service but our server forgot here and there. We also like the torrija, but we had really really good torrija before at Cuenca:) so it's hard to beat.

Yelp
Found this place in yelp. Here in Madrid for a medical course. Walked in with a group of 5 people. They asked if we had a reservation, we didn't. They still accommodated us. We ordered the octopus crisp, razor clams ( navajas)OMG!! I never eat octopus but wow! Then 4 of us ordered the truffle tortilla. It was food heaven!!! One of us had the black tortilla which I tried. It was good but not as good as the truffle. Thank You to the previous yelpers. We are about to order dessert and I'm sure it won't disappoint. The best meal in Madrid

Yelp
This was a home-run, super amazing find. It's more in the university area of Madrid, completely off the tourist grid and filled with nothing but locals. The food was incredible. We had skipped lunch earlier and were ravenous. We ordered omelets as appetizers, followed up by entrees and then aperitifs with dessert. My partner had the cheese and tomato soup omelet that was described as orgasmic. I had the omelet with potatoes and cheese--it was gone in less than five minutes. I followed that up with the duck which was so tender it melted in my mouth. My partner had the steak--there was nothing left on his plate, so I'm sure he hated it. We a had bottle of Red local wine (honestly, the local wine or house wine is amazing!). For dessert we had some Port with some kind of chocolate dish. If I lived in Madrid, this would be a place I'd frequent so often that I would qualify for a monthly tab. I also loved that we saw no other tourists, locals the entire time (BONUS). The ambiance was really nice too, sophisticated with enough modernism to make you feel special without feeling intimidated. We spent $151.06, but it really was worth every penny. We also ordered a lot which is why the bill was so large. There website has the menu with prices, it's really not so bad.

Yelp
This was an excellent recommended restaurant on Yelp. The food was Great and the ambiance was very nice. We had the clam shells and the tortillas octopus shared between two, then a main each.

Yelp
Came across this place via the fodors guidebook as well as Yelp reviews and trust me the service and quality of food you get here is unmatched. The night before we ate at a one star Michelin place and this one blew it out of the water. Menu is only in Spanish but the staff will make sure you have a great experience and on top of that I paid €80 for two and was beyond stuff. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you're not sure of the menu be sure to ask the staff as they will take care of you. Please run not walk to this place.

Yelp
Do yourself (and your stomach) a favor and make a reservation here. We did the good ol' hand the menu back to the manager and let him choose what to eat and boy did he come through! Every dish was bursting with flavor! One of the best restaurants I've been to in the entire WORLD! Hours are very limited, so make sure and do your research. Oh, and you're welcome ;)

Yelp
Of course you're going to come here for the tortillas, and well you should because these are the best tortillas we have had since living in Madrid. The truffle version was amazing and the octopus was a close second. But while you come for the tortilla, stay for the brie flan. Or, the hell with it, just come for the brie flan. Life is short, eat dessert first. A must in a city where we haven't been particularly fond of the cuisine.

Yelp
I have eaten here twice, during brief trips from New York City. I do not believe I'm engaging in hyperbole when I say: you must eat here. The food is immaculate. The service is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is lovely. The prices are perfectly reasonable. Awesome.
