14 Things to Do (and 1 Not to Do) in Medellin (Updated 2025)

"For traditional Colombian food in a relaxed atmosphere, I recommend Mondongo’s in El Poblado — try the mondongo (a traditional tripe soup) which comes with many side dishes including giant avocados; the restaurant gets packed so come early and try to avoid weekends." - Matthew Kepnes

A Vibrant Colombian Cafe You Can’t Miss This lively spot feels like a Jewish deli but with a Colombian twist. The atmosphere is buzzing, the portions are huge, and the flavors are unforgettable. Dive into dishes like fresh fish or the must-try Ajiaco—a hearty chicken, corn, and potato soup—served with rice, banana, and creamy avocado on the side. The friendly, fast service adds to the charm. Come for the food, stay for the vibe, and leave absolutely stuffed. A must-visit!

Definitely worth going to. Good traditional food. Does get pretty busy after ~1230, so recommend an early bite. I gave this "Pilsen" beer the #2 ranking of our South American trip also.

Mondongos is hands down one of the best restaurants in Medellín! The quality of the food is excellent, and the service is always top-tier—attentive, friendly, and welcoming every time. As a vegan, this spot is an absolute must-visit. I’ve been traveling here for over three years and have tried every vegan restaurant and option in the city, but nothing beats Mondongos. They have everything you need: perfectly cooked beans, rice, creamy avocado, fresh cilantro, lime, potatoes, sweet plantains—whatever you’re craving, they’ve got it. Another highlight is their jar of fresh juice, which is a fantastic value and so refreshing. Whether you’re vegan or not, this place delivers an authentic and satisfying Colombian dining experience. Couldn’t recommend it more!

This place!!! Wow - have to say this spot was not overhyped at all. A great place to get a taste of traditional Colombian food. The dishes were simple, high quality and incredibly flavorful. Portions are large and filling. The tenderloin beef was insanely good and the chicken soup was also a show stopper! Can’t recommend enough, especially if you are visiting.

My Colombian friend took me here! I think it's the local restaurant and we went there around 9pm. They are about closing but I enjoyed the dishes! Mondongo was really tasty!!!

Really fantastic traditional Colombian food. Was recommended by a local and it was incredible. I got the combo and highly recommended it. It’s a massive portion too!

We were sat immediately and our waiter quickly took our drink and food orders. Food came out in under ten minutes and was delicious. Price was a little steep but it’s a more tourist heavy spot and quite popular so no complaints. Highly recommend!
