Lake Bled, an enchanting location and enticing haute cuisine

"Perched in the elegant Hotel Toplice with a terrace jutting out over Lake Bled, the dining room led by Simon Bertoncelj blends regional roots with international polish shaped in part by influences from Gordon Ramsay, Marc Meurin and Bobby Bräuer. A guiding mantra here is to marry cutting‑edge technique with local flavours, yielding dishes of fine balance—think saddle of veal with artichokes, leafy vegetables, duck, toasted hazelnuts, apricot jelly and a balsamic dressing, where freshness and delicate sweetness play against a full‑bodied core. Other signatures range from giant cuttlefish steak with roasted aubergine, potato ravioli, spring onions and fish sauce to delicious lamb chops in a breaded crust. The creative, visually striking cooking relies on a short supply chain and regional produce, including goose and duck liver, top‑quality beef, local vegetables, cheeses and dairy, and freshwater fish like trout from nearby farms, often carrying the “Bled Local Selection” label; the restaurant earned the “Michelin Plate” in both 2020 and 2021. Had a beautiful meal here (4-course tasting menu with wine pairing) with my girlfriend. Food was great, and service was good. Being able to choose from the menu was a highlight, though having the lone dessert we selected between us served on its own at the end would have been preferred. Was quiet when we arrived but got busier which helped with the atmosphere. Entrance signs on the lake weren't clear but we made it eventually.

This was our 15th Michelin restaurant and quite frankly, we couldn’t figure out how they got their star (and kept it). Food was good but not as creative as we have come to expect from this level. Some of the combinations did not make sense and it felt uninspired. We had the 8 course + wine pairing. From the weird plastic/paper doily on top of the scratched charger, to the stone plates that made a terrible sound when the silverware touched it-we found the plating subpar. When eating the pheasant course—I bit into something hard and it turned out to be bird shot! The staff seemed indifferent about it and we got a “the kitchen sends their apology”. The venison tasted off and needed seasoning. Wines were ok but nothing great.

The dishes showcased a strong regional focus, with the finest local ingredients. Be sure to try the barley risotto with smoked trout and venison pâté, perfectly complemented by cherry jelly, hazelnut cream, apple chutney, and red beet mousse. Pair it all with exceptional Slovenian wines for an unforgettable experience. The quality, views, and hospitality—simply unreal.

Amazing place to dine while in Bled. We had the Gorenjska menu which includes four courses sourced from the Bled region together with fantastic Slovenian wine. The views of the lake are stunning as was the food. The staff are very friendly and our server Feri took great care of us. For the four course menu you can expect around two hours time (for two persons). Overall, we had a fantastic experience at a reasonable price for the quality of the food.

I have been to a lot of Michelin restaurants and was surprised to find one here, I hadn’t noticed it has a boutique 2* restaurant when I booked, so that was a nice surprise. All I can say is, if you stay in the hotel or even in the area, you have to treat yourself one night. The food quality is excellent and presentation really impressive. But its hard to explain just how much pleasure you can derive from eating here, the flavours were amazing. I had the 5 course and that was more than enough for me. You can either have wine paring or separate drinks. We went with the paring which really complemented the food well. Even after this the whole bill was less than you would pay for a good bottle of wine at some Michelin restaurants. Value for money wise, it’s fantastic. If you like good food or want to treat a loved one, I would definitely recommend coming here.

Fantastic tasting menu!! Amazing options and this was one of the few tasting menus that I’ve seen where you may pick your courses. Absolutely loved this and my husband loved the wine pairing element. Fabulous service and elegant evening.

Another great choice for Restaurant Week events in Slovenia. We visited this restaurant a few times already and always left full of delicious food. The menu has always fish and meat menu and the courses are always interesting with the use of unique flavors and combinations. Atmosphere of the restaurant is elegant and offers views of the lake.
