Ghetto Gastro, the Bronx Culinary Collective, Is Doing It All | Eater

"A nonprofit that bridges food waste and food insecurity by mobilizing restaurants to prepare free meals; the organization partnered with the collective to build a local Bronx program that served more than 30,000 free meals in 2020 and helped raise roughly $250,000 to support food-security efforts." - Bettina Makalintal

Former Eleven Madison Park Chef Starts Nonprofit to Feed the Hungry | Eater

"A chef-led nonprofit that transforms high-quality restaurant scraps and prepared leftovers into nutritionally balanced, ready-to-serve meals for shelters and missions. Operating out of an industrial kitchen, the program employs a small team of chefs to convert items like braised portobello, carved roasted chicken used in a chicken-and-rice entrée, stewed cabbage, green salad, and cream of mushroom soup into packaged meals for distribution. The operation handles logistics—providing refrigerated trucks, drivers, and replacement food tubs—offers donors full indemnification on handoff, and leverages partnerships with restaurants and farms to secure near-ready, seasonal ingredients. With an early tally in the low thousands of meals served and a goal of one million meals per year, the initiative also seeks to relieve restaurants’ disposal costs, create tax incentives for donors, and eventually hire and train people from the communities it serves." - Sarah Zorn

This is some type of money laundering organization and it's very sad. Food is dirty and nasty. One thing was spoiled (see photo) on the literal first delivery. I was also given vegan food because that was "the only kosher option" (note: we are culturally sensitive and relevant in its advertising) and then informed after eating it for several days and checking in with them because it didn't seem kosher only after following up several times they admitted it wasn't kosher and that they were "closing the case." No apology, no explanation. I asked to be passed to a supervisor of the person who I was in touch with (Africa), and she just disappeared. Disgusting operation and a front. Giving dirty food to people in need and claiming nonprofit status is a new low! I still haven't heard from that supervisor!!! Do yourself a favor and use a competitor that respects you.

You have no idea how you made my thanksgiving night . I was coming from park in Astoria and wondering what to eat I had 50 dollar in my account and was gonna get them cans and potato and noodles to keep me out of hunger for a week or so . I’ll haven’t work in 5months and as an international student the struggle is hard can’t pay my rent can’t work. Anything else beside engineering (immigration law) and I found rethink food plates just in the corner waiting for me to to pick up .and enjoy thank you so much .and happy thanks giving and god bless you all I will pay it forward promise

This organization is revolutionizing how food waste is repurposed and redistributed to those in need. Highly recommend!
