The 23 Best Restaurants In Florence 2024

"Florence is no stranger to popular sandwich places—yes, we’re talking about All’Antico Vinaio and its lines longer than the entrance to the Uffizi. But for our favorite panino, head to Retrobottega near Piazza della Signoria. Unlike the city’s other sandwich spots, they have (gasp, shock) space to sit inside and a great Happy Hour where you can snack on some crostini and sip a glass of organic wine as you take down an affordable panini. Order the Bambola with salty, crunchy schiacciata and watch them assemble your masterpiece with slices of mortadella, pistachio pesto, and a zing of lime zest. We also like the Sloppy Rob that’s stuffed with delicious pulled beef cooked slowly in red wine and served with crunchy onions and homemade honey mustard. " - coral sisk, georgette jupe

The panninis and foccacia sandwiches are amazing. Creative, fast service, delicious, good vegetarian selections. Honestly I tried to go somewhere else for my second day in Florence but couldn’t find anything that compares and defaulted to here again with no regrets. The coffee is great too. Overall great value! If it’s the only thing you do in Florence, come here!

I read all of the positive reviews and decided I had to try this place out. I will start by saying the staff is super friendly! The ease of ordering was nice as well, they have the menu in Italian and English. The payment process was also very simple. The menu looked so good and had a nice selection of sandwiches. I ordered my sandwich at the to go window and sat down to eat. From the moment I took the first bite, I knew I messed up. Maybe I have an underdeveloped palette, but I don’t think so. The taste was just downright…nasty? I feel awful for saying that but it wasn’t good. There’s a ton of restaurants in the area, and food is abound. Again, service was great and I would say if you want to try it, definitely do so! However, for me, the sandwich just didn’t have a good taste and the mixture of sauces and meats and veggies on it was not good.

I cannot emphasize enough how incredible these sandwiches are. This was our go-to restaurant during our three days in Florence. We went to get food at 10:15 PM and the kitchen was closed, but they were still able to make us the Sloppy Rob and Boscaiolo Chic, which were both amazing. We ended up getting 7 sandwiches here in three days, so if that doesn’t prove how good they are, I don’t know what will. The staff were also super welcoming and friendly, and they recognized us every time we came back even though we only met a few times. We HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!

Easily the best sandwich shop in Florence. If you don't eat here while on a visit, you missed out big. Get the Pork & Love ❤️ Atmosphere and service were both on par.

We hadn’t planned on eating, but the menu looked too good to pass up as we walked back to our apartment. The staff were super friendly and happy to accommodate special requests… like adding an extra ingredient to my sandwich and making a Nutella sandwich for my friend. Highly recommend!

Reteobottega is the culinary equivalent of a great idea lost in translation. The filling? Delicious—flavorful, well-seasoned, clearly made with care. But then came the bread… oh, the bread. Stale, dry, and as inspiring as a Monday morning. It was like someone took a great sandwich and decided to wrap it in regret. For the price, I was expecting a flavor explosion, not a breadcrumb funeral. That said, the staff was genuinely lovely—if only they baked the bread with the same warmth they greeted us with!

Good sandwich, not great. Not sure the 4.9 stars are accurate. Each of the four sandwiches we purchased was light on meat, sauce, and toppings. Overall, a decent sandwich, but I wouldn't choose to go here again. I think there may be better options worth exploring while in Florence. The photo shows two different sandwiches cut in half; the spider pork, and viva florenza. We also got the pastramami, and the pork and love, which we don't have a photo of.

I will dream about these sandwiches...so good!! They were some of mine and my husband's favorite bites from our entire trip to Italy. The bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the sandwich combinations were so creative and delicious. An absolute must try while walking around Florence!
