Came here on easter Sunday to check this place out, pretty far location from me but I love supporting family and Guatemalan owned businesses. I saw they were opened until 6 pm for the holiday and decided to make the drive. I'll be frank, although I was going to support, I had really high hopes but I was left underwhelmed. When I arrived parking seemed small and odd which is understandable bc it's located in a strip mall. Once inside, the layout felt kind of awkward. Very simple and minimalist which is fine but I couldn't understand the vibe for the cafe since it did gave off fast food self service restaurant rather than coffee shop, in my opinion. The interior reminded me of a blank space with some portraits of guatemala and some plants and that's it. It was very confusing but there was nothing special, sadly, I didn't feel comfortable. HOWEVER I decided to stay since I had made that drive to try their food and coffee. I opted for the quetzal latte but then changed to the Guate latte because I was skeptical about the sweetness level of the quetzal since essentially it was a matcha iced latte topped with a blue colored cold foam, from what I understood from the menu. I like sweet but that sounded too sweet for me. Coffee was ok but a little too sweet to my liking (as I had already suspected) I couldn't finish it. It tasted like pure horchata which was ok but personally I wanted a coffee taste not a sugar rush. I regret not ordering espresso shots on the side to do so, so that's my fault. They don't serve anything else beside orange juice, that's not naturally pressed but instead bought and resold, which is understandable. For food items I got the "desayuno chapin" which consisted of beans, plantains, cheese, cream, and eggs (with a side choice of tortillas or bread). The plaintains, beans, and crema were good... nothing too crazy. I was asked if I wanted my eggs done a certain way and I decided to get scramble, I asked if they would come simple or with tomato/onion/salsa and the girl said yes it was a choice I could make so I chose to get it with the tomato... I was underwhelmed because I could've done this at home. I also ordered a plate of garnachas(6) which were OK but I felt that the tortillas were a little too thick and raw in the middle for me. Other than that the escabache and meat were great! I think they used shredded/ground beef which was seasoned to perfection, including their homemade sauce that they added on top! But what threw me off was the chewiness of the tortilla/masa of the garnachas. Now overall, after coming here and experiencing it for myself after finding this "cute" little cafe on tiktok I can say that they have friendly service without a doubt, but I don't think it's worth making a drive to this cafe located in the city of hawthorne. If I were in the area, which I'm usually not, I probably would stop by but overall I won't be recommending this place to anyone from weho/koreatown/midcity/dtla area since it is pretty far for them. I would probably recommend somewhere closer to them to avoid that drive. I wouldn't steer off any customers as well in fact I would encourage them to come support! In conclusion, is it worth the drive... no. Should someone try them out... absolutely but don't say I didn't warn you lol.
