12 Best Breweries in Seattle | Condé Nast Traveler

"Reuben’s Brews has a covered wood patio that almost makes it blend in with its residential neighbors, making it a popular local spot. And it opens early (11 a.m.), so you'll see remote workers on their laptops with a beer. Seasonal IPAs tend to be favorites, like the summer IPA with orange and grapefruit notes." - Jenna Scatena

We were on a brewery tour with Cycle Saloon and this was the first stop. Fun atmosphere with a couple of nice murals and lots of seating areas. We sat in the back room and played a board game while we enjoyed their beers. They have a nice selection and there is a decent amount of food options too. We just came from a dinner nearby so we only their beers this time.

Google
Ruebens has been my favorite Brewery for going on 10 years. Never have I been disappointed in any of thier Brews, even varieties I am not a fan of. Yesterday had thier current Bock and I was totally blown away, just Epic Beer no matter what you dig! Service A+, Food A+, Brews?.....Next Level.

Google
I enjoy some of the other Reuben's spots more (more seating, different vibes, etc) but this is still a solid brewery location and hits the spot if you want one of their specific releases.

Google
A great spot for a sunny day- Reuben’s is in a quieter location of Ballard so it’s nice to relax outside without the noise of cars. They have a wide selection of beers with friendly knowledgeable staff, and the food truck is always decent.

Google
Good beer & food is solid. That being said, mean sandwich is a way better value for food. And you get a cheap canned beer there or a draft next door with your food. They also have great sauce options! Also the service is much better. Likewise Fremont brewing & their smash burger food truck is a much better value & has actual sauce for fries, ketchup is a base, not a sauce. So not bad, but definitely better options around. We got a Rueben, a chicken sandwich & 2 beers, and that was $60. (Not associated with any of the companies mentioned.)

Google
Consistently spectacular beers, ciders, and seltzers delivered with friendly service, with plenty of room on the patio for large groups, sweet dogs, and well-behaved babies. Great spot for groups or to read a book alone in the sun (or not-sun). WFH bonus: wifi!

Google
This is my second time at Reuben’s, few years a part, and damn…they upped their incredible game. Enjoyed a Fresh Hop Crispy and Crispytown, both were incredible my drinkable and perfect for any sporting event. What blew me away was the food. The fried chicken sandwich was killer. Not what I expected, was more like a tempura fried chicken than the overly breaded southern kind which was a pleasant surprise. The fries, they are fantastic, great place for dinner!

Google
Overall good experience with great food. I was sort of disappointed in the lack of selection of beers. They have like 30 beers but half of them were lagers and most of the rest were IPAs. They had one red and one porter. Several of the IPAs tasted quite similar. They didn't have a single beer with ABV above 7%. If you're going to have so many beers, why not have a bit more diversity?

Yelp
Cool brewery, good beers, and good food! Had a flight and all of the beers impressed, but especially the barrel aged stout. *chef's kiss* I also had the fish and chips which were excellent. Tender strips of fish in a crunchy batter with an understated tartar sauce. Great base for all the beer!
google avatar

Carol K.

Yelp
This is a nice large outdoor/indoor space with several brews on tap. I had an amber something that was very tasty. Beau's crisp lager was a winner as well. The service was good and the food fast. We had a reuben of course and it was good. Definitely shareable. The pretzel and beer cheese meh. I don't recommend it. It came warm out of the microwave which means it hardened fast and the sauce was boring. I would definitely return and there is plenty of space for groups. Looks like a good venue for music.

Yelp
I'm on the road 10 days a month and always try new craft beer in each city. I'm here to tell you that the Robust Porter is absolutely divine. Their description is spot on. Malty, caramel goodness. I had the fried chicken sandwich super delicious! I'm going back tomorrow and try something new. It happened that they had cans available at my hotel. I had two of those for dessert! nice work guys food, beer, staff; all were just perfect.

Yelp
I've never had a bad day here. If I'm here, the pretty girl gave me her number, I got raise, or mercury is no longer in retrograde. The beer is great, the atmosphere is great, it's just great.

Yelp
Was very disappointed, ordered the fish and chips and received 1 small and 2 other TINY pieces of fish.... Was our first time trying this place and will never order again, they HAD to know that any customer would be disappointed with this order and it should never have left the kitchen

Yelp
Stopping for a quick pint before grabbing dinner nearby, my husband, and I found our way to Reuben's Brews. I loved that they offered a variety of beer alternatives such as seltzers and hard ciders. I ended up enjoying a pint of seltzer, which was refreshing. My husband was thrilled to see that they offered a brown ale on their menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and we're both dog and child-friendly.

Yelp
Fairly accessible, well priced, and good quality food and beer! Located around the Ballard area, this place is located in the midst of many breweries. I only went here for beer as I am not too big of a beer person, but this place has a good variety - from IPAs to lighter hops to stouts (their BBIS). The beer can be tried as tasters in 4 oz cups, which is what I got, so I can try more variety. Note that it will cost a little more per ounce than if you get 12 oz, but you pay a premium for variety, which is fine since it isn't that much more. 3 4oz cups got me to a little under $10 after tax, which includes their stronger, pricier stout (BBIS with maple syrup). I don't care too much about their IPA but their BBIS is amazing - not carbonated, strong, a bit of coffee flavor, and a bit on the sweet side. For food, they have a food truck place called Reuben's Eats and I got the fried chicken sandwich original. For $11 before tax, it is a lot of food. The chicken is not the most seasoned but it was very crispy and juicy! Not the best sandwich but it pairs super well with the beer. My friend and I shared a ranch loaded special fries and we barely finished one order. It is good but they also give you a lot of food! We were originally going for the SRW special for $35 per person, but after finding out they only give you 3 4oz cups also as their pairing, we actually spent a lot less getting what we want (by half the price) and we were still very full.

Yelp
I didn't know what to get and I wasn't driving, so I started with a flight. I liked all the beers that I got, but the best was the classic Czech pilsner. The Smore stout was interesting but not what I was expecting. The outdoor patio area had a nice vibe but there was an event going on and it was kind of chilly (the fire pit was off). The inside was nice but a little quieter and empty.

Yelp
After hitting up Great Notion directly across the street, we checked out Reuben's Brews. My dad wanted to go check them out and try one of their beers before heading back to our hotel. We sat outside at Great Notion, but we sat inside here because it was becoming a little chilly! I ordered an orange hard seltzer and my dad ordered their key lime beer (we were here specifically for that type of beer haha). I've been going for the fruity beer/ciders lately and the hard seltzer that I had was so delicious! It had that perfect orange flavor to it! My dad was so distracted by ordering the key lime beer he didn't even realize that there were 28 other beers on tap. He loved this beer so much that he decided to take a four pack back with him, which was also the case with another four pack he took back from Great Notion. They have four restrooms inside, with two of them containing baby changing stations, which is convenient if you have a baby in tow. They also have a food truck directly outside on their patio, titled Reuben's Eats. I really enjoyed Reuben's and I want to come back and try their other beers next time I visit Seattle!

Yelp
When I tell you that I would drive all the way from Portland to Seattle to eat this salad - I am not kidding. The best chicken Caesar salad I've ever had, hands down. The chicken was perfectly crispy and the dressing was perfect! The brat was also so so delicious. The guys working the truck were super nice and the food came out quickly. I had low expectations and hoped for the best but I was truly amazed at how good this was! Wow.
google avatar

Laura E.

Yelp
Can I say yummy grilled cheese and fries? Haha! My husband enjoyed the fish and chips, too. We were here for Tuesday early dinner and loved the relaxing environment and fun workers.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Always busy. Always a good vibe. Tons of beers to choose from and they even have their own food onsite. We've visited in all weather and their space accommodates it all. There is indoor/outdoor and covered/uncovered areas. They also have live music on some nights. Reuben's stands out in the brewery district.
google avatar

Mary J.

Yelp
Much-loved neighborhood haunt with excellent large and sunny outdoor area and even a few NA and non-beer options for weirdos like me. Their food -- from a very cute permanent food truck called Reuben's Eats -- is also quite good. Perfect for groups.
google avatar

Kathryn Y.

Yelp
Maybe I recommend this spot. The strawberry rhubarb sour was delicious. This brewery suffers a bit from the Seattle freeze vibe I've grown to almost accustomed to. I'm referring to an almost unfriendly borderline don't bother me attitude that seems to be prevalent in the Seattle area. It's not necessarily rudeness but also not extremely welcoming. Anyhow, I asked about food as there is a food truck out front and the young said 3:00. The food truck did not open at 3:00. Boo. The tables were all sticky from, mmm, not sure, but the beer was delicious. And there were so many choices.I was just hungry and might have tried another beer if food had been available. I give this spot 4 stars as it had good beer and I would come back with a group of friends. It's definitely a friend place. Not a solo person place. Clean bathrooms though. Yeah. Cheers and happy Yelping.

Yelp
Start your brewery crawl here. You won't be sorry. Excellent selection of beers. The Czech pilsner was very good (husband had that), but I had the Fantastic Summer lager (wow was that really good). Raspberry sour was also tasty (ordered by someone else in our party). Service was excellent, both in the taproom and out at the food truck that's on premises. And speaking of the food - superb! The fried chicken sandwich was absolutely delish! The pretzel is also very good - and huge. But that chicken sandwich - way too yummy for my own good! Nice atmosphere with multiple tables inside and out. Very comfortable and a great way to start your afternoon of ambling around the many breweries located here. Definitely one of the most memorable spots - both for the beers and the food. Remember, start here. You may not leave!

Yelp
Nice selection of brew and causal seating for enjoying your adult beverage. Not special compared to the other places all around. Place x the street is better IMHO
google avatar

Matthew J.

Yelp
Reubens has good food, good beer, and great service. Nothing more you could ask for from a brewery.
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
Another stop as we worked our way through the Ballard Neighborhood. A local friend highly recommended this place to us and they did not disappoint. Spacious! There is indoor and outdoor seating aplenty. I was a happy camper. I am a dark beer girl. They had a Robust Porter on tap that was spot on for me. I got a pint and proceeded to enjoy every drop. I'm glad we stopped in here!
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
I forgot how much I like Reubens. I was driving through the area and decided to stop by on a weeknight towards the end of summer. I might've been aiming for the pizza place across the street but there was a taco truck in front and more seating, along with a bit more lively atmosphere here. I'm so glad I came in! The truck was convenient for people watching and to grab a bite. I could try different beers while waiting, and if you love something, you can take some cans home too. After going to beer fests, it's nice to put two and two together by stopping by the actual brewery and learning a bit from the kind people serving. It's always a great experience anywhere, and Reubens was no exception. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
I Stopped by Reuben's on the first real hot day of spring in Seattle and what a beautiful day it was. With lots of great outdoor seating, great beer and cider and wine available for people who like that instead, this was the perfect place to go. Do not let lines to get a beer stop you, as they move fast and the servers are friendly and the beer is in your hands in no time at all. Reuben's is the spot to be in Ballard for a fun day in the sun.

Yelp
3rd stop on our "pub crawl" and wish it was the last, because it is going to be hard for another establishment to top this place. 27 beers on tap, so something for everyone! The three of us consider ourselves to be pretty expert when it comes to rating stouts, porters, and especially barleywines. Since none of us like hoppy beers, we only drink these three styles year round. All three of us agree that the Instant Vintage XI barleywine was the best we have ever had. The Stouter Limits was also one of the top 3 stouts we've ever tried. Both were aged perfectly and made our mouth water just from their aroma. We got additional pours of both even though we still have a few other stops, thankfully we are walking! The robust porter was also well above average. I wish they had the barleywine and stout available to bring back home, but no such luck. As mentioned above, this place is going to be hard to top on the rest of our "pub crawl". FIVE+++ stars, well worth the drive and if only visiting one brewery in the Seattle area, this is the one you want! Across the street to stop #4...Great Notion.

Yelp
Still a 5 star 3 years later. I have been here many times. Each time is as good as the previous. They have changed a lot over the last 3 years, but its still a solid visit. I would highly recommend this place for sure. If you like, if you speciality beers, If you are in Seattle and like beer. Come here. Around here you can find many great Seattle Breweries as well. Come here one day. And do a quick tour of the surrounding area. I highly recommend it. Nothing bad to report. Its great beer. A great atmosphere, even better if its sunny. Guests are usually awesome. Plus they have dope Merch. Highly recommend.

velma v.

Yelp
I'm not really a fan of the brewery itself. The beer is good. The staff is not very friendly every single time I go. It's usually pretty crowded so it's not very relaxing to hang out and have a beer. If you like being at crowded college parties, this would be the place to drink.

Yelp
After trying many of the breweries on the outskirts of the 'core' breweries in the Ballard area, I ventured onto Reuben's brewery, which is also surrounded by many other tempting breweries ( plenty of time for that later.. although FOMO makes it tempting! Lol) I've tried a few of their core beers that are available at local stores and restaurants, but at the brewery they have a few that are only available there. Reminds me of Drakes in San Leandro that way.. part of the fun of exploring the breweries. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and on spot, ready for another pour or explaining the different brews. I enjoyed trying the wild fermentation ' Heart of the Wood' a refreshing taste of something different and similar to a gose or sour. Always enjoy changing it up from the IPAs , although I will say my second beer was a IPA that going along with the May the fourth be with you theme, was 'Phantasm Menace' which featured Galaxy and Comet hops ( of course) along with the added 'Phatasm' powder which is made from Sauvignon Blanc grape skins.. interesting and tasty! Worth taking a four pack home, to enjoy while geeking over a Star Wars movie or two.. lol. Anyway... a great Friday afternoon vibe, plenty of seating outside uncovered or open spaces to soak up the sun. They also have food available, which will be tried on a return visit. A great place to stop for brews, just by itself or to start or finish a beer crawl in the area. Parking can be a challenge in the area, so expect a walk before your crawl. SYOY! Cheers!

Yelp
Reuben's has been definitely one of my go to breweries in the area for years as I think they have the tastiest beers in town. Love their outdoor area; you can ask them to turn on the overheads heaters if you get too chilled. Also really appreciate they have food trucks that are almost always there when they're open - as imbibing and eating go hand in hand. Be sure to check it out on one of your brewery crawls!
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Great beer, great atmosphere. Best sours in town. I look forward to making Reuben's a regular stop.
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
The winter beers were just ok. A bit too sweet for me. The service was excellent! My wife loved the hotdog with the kimcheese, though she said it did get pretty spicy towards the end!

Ash S.

Yelp
Fish and chips are really good. The staff is pretty friendly. They have Wi-Fi available which is pretty cool. The only complaint I have is that it's extremely cold inside of the restaurant and a very uncomfortable to be that cold while you're trying to eat.
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
Reuben's has rapidly turned into my favorite Seattle brewery. Their beer is just so good! Each one is expertly crafted and a perfect version of what it is. I particularly like the Pilsner and Crikey IPA. As for the brewery itself, they managed to distinguish themselves amongst a sea of copy-paste warehouse style breweries with a fun atmosphere, awesome selection of beer and rich community feel. We visited on a Saturday afternoon in the early summer and the place was full without feeling packed or overcrowded. You could still order a drink in about 3 minutes. Seating was still available too - they have a large indoor/outdoor fess table setup as most breweries do. We will (and have) been back!
google avatar

Yvonne W.

Yelp
Was actually quite disappointed with the beer itself. I definitely liked great notion a lot better and great notion is just across the street. The outdoor seating is really nice makes it very welcoming to hang out with friends. There are always a variety of food truck vendors outside so if you want something to snack on there is always food.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
Plenty of outdoor space, seating, beer options, and restrooms. We tasted pretty much the whole menu and everything was great. Highly recommend, will be back again next time I'm in Seattle.
google avatar

Yelp
COVID review: I have been coming to Reuben's Brews for years and have been here on many different occasions. The staff is always super friendly and the beers are some of my favorite in the Seattle area. Currently, you can visit and put your name on a waitlist and they will call you when your table is ready. On each of the tables, they have hand sanitizer pumps and QR codes to see the beer list. The tables are very well spread out with ropes dividing some of the areas. They ask to only send 1 person in from your table to order the beers and bring them to your table. They are not using glassware here, only recyclable cups for easy clean up where you should be bussing your own table. They are still dog-friendly and kid-friendly. There is typically a food truck in the front also that serves food, it changes all the time. For to-go beer, you can place an order online ahead of time and it is typically ready for pickup within 5-10 minutes. To pick up beer to-go, it is around the back side of the brewery. Overall, I think that Reuben's has done a great job making changes to serve guests safely and I would highly recommend coming here for beer at the brewery or to-go.
google avatar

Varshini S.

Yelp
Loved the vibe at Reuben's! It made for a great Sunday spent enjoying beer. I know Reuben's is always a safe bet when I go somewhere else and see it on tap or when I see it at the store, but it was so fun to try a pint on draft at the actual brewery. They have a very extensive tap list and everyone is guaranteed to find something they like. I really enjoyed my hazy IPA. The patio also had really good vibes with all the families and dogs around. I can't wait to come back, especially on a nice weather day! This is a brewery worth waiting for.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Fun brewery all around. Nice vibe and good indoor/outdoor spaces. Taps are always good. I happen to like their hazy (along with Fremont's Sky Kraken they are two of my faves in Seattle area). With all the breweries in this area I put Reuben's in top tier.
google avatar

Tabitha H.

Yelp
Solid brewery. My friend and I came here and pleasantly enjoyed everything that was recommended. Normally, I get a little hesitant about trying certain beers, because of previous bad experiences, but that didn't happen here. There's plenty of covered seating outside. Would recommend and visit again!
google avatar

Jack T.

Yelp
During my week long trip to Seattle for holiday, I enjoyed Reuben's the most strictly for the beer. + All types of beer but I particularly enjoyed the hazy IPAs + Love the brand, I bought a hat as it was pretty cool logo + The 9th Anniversary that was going on was a lot of fun + Owners are super nice If you are a craft beer head, definitely give this a try when you bar hop in this area with the other places nearby. I can't wait until they do distro into California!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Lots of outdoors seating at this spot!! It was very nice to sit outside, have a cold one and feel the breeze on your face after walking at crowded Pikes place! We got the hazealicious IPA, mind the gap and triumvirate. Loved the beers! Very dog friendly as well as a lot of people brought their furry friends. Very chill spot to hang out with friends!

Sara W.

Yelp
Two stars for good beers but neighborhood is scary, so many homeless encampments on every corner. The business and city should do something so the area can prosper.
google avatar

Cornelius K.

Yelp
This was a common spot listed among recommendations for our visit to Seattle. I like beer, so had to give it a try! Thank goodness for flights before they had so many good choices on draft. The beertender was helpful, knowledgeable and patient. I'd give this place 5 stars, but I knocked off 1 star because of their food truck they have outside. Not only do I wish they had more options, but even the ones they have are just subpar. The best thing we ordered was the Caesar salad, if that tells you anything. We also got the fried chicken sandwich, to which still looked pink inside when we cut it in half. My boyfriend was just going to throw it away as he owns his own food truck and was disgusted by the fact it was a frozen piece of meat made with no effort. I don't like to waste money on something we're not going to eat. I hardly ever return food, but I felt so compelled to go back outside and told the staff it's pink. The cook defended himself saying he used a thermometer and it was cooked all the way. I flat-out told him it's just not good in general too, and we wanted a refund. Will definitely return on my next visit, but will be bringing my own food!
google avatar

Aileen K.

Yelp
Probably the best brewery in the area in terms of IPA options and crowds. It was also fun being there and the BGM was hip. I enjoyed feeling like I was at a dayclub (minus the pool and the hard alch). Shall be back!

L K.

Yelp
Beers were ok. Got to try things we've never had. Tried the Kim cheese fries from the good truck. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Daisy H.

Yelp
Large patio, seems to be a long term installation vs temporary. Dog friendly. Warm pretzel machine. Communal seating and barrel seating. Nice space for larger groups. Good quality beer. Food truck options for food.

Yelp
It's no secret that Reuben's has some of the best local beers - particularly if you like hazy beer! What I love about Reuben's: - Awesome beer, always. Reuben's has a solid lineup of innovative staples and always seems to be trying new and interesting stuff. I've had more of their beer than I could ever count, and have rarely found something I didn't like. Whether you're a traditionalist when it comes to beer, or like to be on the cutting edge, there's something for everyone. - Great staff and service. I can always count on being warmly received! - Pandemic precautions are observed consistently, which is much appreciated! Other stuff: - Reuben's gets a fair amount of tourist traffic. If you're planning on stopping in, wait times are frequently high, even with the cold weather. Unfortunately, you can only join the waitlist in-person, meaning you'll often have to kill some time by walking around the neighborhood, but there are plenty of spots nearby. I wish they'd add a remote waitlist join option. A couple of times I've joined the waitlist and haven't been notified of space becoming open, so there are some bugs. - While all tables are covered and there's some wind protection, there are no heaters anywhere. If you get cold easily, I'd recommend visiting during daylight hours.

Yelp
Reuben's Brewhouse This review is only on their cider. It was the least desirable cider I have had so far; however, my homie had their port and IPA (dont remember which one) and he was real happy about them. Wish they had sours available.

Yelp
I love this place! It's perfect in summer! It's a great place to just grab a few. The seats aren't terribly comfortable so it's not a place to come if you've been on your feet all day. They are dog friendly! They also are kid friendly..... to friendly if you ask me. They were running around and spilling peoples drinks. Not cool. However I'm not blaiming Reubens. It's totally not their fault. Just be carful. 24 on tap!!!! COME ON! That's insane! This is the place to come if you want to try something not in your normal realm. They also have a food truck around the corner if you get hungry! Great vibes all around. Check this place out if you havnt already!

Yelp
Incredibly friendly staff! This would be a great spot for the IPA lover! I enjoyed the plethora of outdoor seating and would absolutely return when visiting Ballard again!

Yelp
Great beer. But silly that "no flights are done on weekends". As an out of state bartender I get it, but kinda ruined the experience for me. As the only one in line it just sounded like a cop out to me **Updating to a 2 star*** Because it turns out my bartender was LAZY and didn't want to go thru the effort of making a flight. 2 stars only for the Good IPA's

Yelp
Greate brewery with all kinds of little pockets for seating inside and out. Perfect for large or small groups. Great selection of beers and fun/jovial staff ready to service. Very easy to park at.

Yelp
Went there on Thursday night. The place was packed. All we heard all week while in Seattle was to go to Reubens. So we finally made our way over there. Good sized patio. Dog friendly which is nice. Looked like they do a lot of community program booths. I believe there were 24 on tap. That is awesome. The beer was really good. Friendly bartenders. Cheers.

Yelp
The beers were ok not our favorite brewery in Seattle but we wanted to go there and see if they had good beers that you can't get in cans . Honestly the beers didn't taste all different from each other .
