The Best Barbecue Restaurants and Carts in Portland | Eater Portland

"From the team behind Laurelhurst Market, this family-friendly Sellwood restaurant takes the generalist approach to barbecue, serving Carolina-style chopped pork shoulder alongside barbecue favorites like St. Louis-style ribs and smoked brisket from Brandt Beef. Aside from smoked meats, the restaurant also fries chicken and hush puppies. Those looking for vegetarian items can find smoked tempeh sandwiches and meatless sides and salads." - Ron Scott

Where to Eat and Drink in Sellwood-Moreland | Eater Portland

"One of the city’s defining barbecue spots, Reverend’s BBQ serves smoked meats and fried chicken in a casual, fast-paced dining room. The chopped pork shoulder is the star of the show here, and while tender and flavorful on its own, it does well with a nice deluge of the many sauces, especially in sandwich form. Meanwhile, the griddled polenta with creamed corn and tasso ham is a sleeper hit — creamy, silky, and rich." - Alex Frane

14 Outstanding Fried Chicken Sandwiches in Portland | Eater Portland

"Sellwood’s Reverend’s BBQ is probably most known for its namesake barbecue food. However, the fried chicken, which is smoked before frying, stands among some of its best menu items. Shredded iceberg, pepperoncini, and spicy mayo top a smoky, tender chicken thigh on a toasted sesame bun. Side options, like mac and cheese or collard greens, are included with the sandwich. While this place can get a little busy, it is a great place to watch a sporting event because there are television screens at nearly every angle."

Google
Great BBQ. Brisket, Mac and cheese, fries, and baked beans were my favorites. Everything tasted great though. Had strawberry shortcake for dessert which was also wonderful. Service was slightly slow with minimal contact, but we still left happy.

Google
Great Job Reverend’s!!! I’m a foodie & I expect my food warm from the source and fresh. I lived close by, but the food was warm and tasty. I called to follow up with the order to what I expected. Fatty brisket and fresh ribs & meat. Reverends delivered ❤️ that! I’m a happy customer!

Google
The people are great and the location is ideal. I really liked the decor, it feels like it's been around a long time.

Google
Third time ordering ribs and brisket; awesome every time; did a taste test with two other places that are highly rated and it was close, but The Reverend BBQ won; meaty ribs (and 1/2 rack is a FULL 7 ribs) and very tender juicy brisket) so, I HIGHLY recommend

Google
Met up with old friends here and really enjoyed our meal. We got for happy hour and enjoyed a good deal on individual ribs (versus a half rack). Fall off the bone tender St Louis style with a nice mop sauce. Other entrees included a fried chicken sandwich and a brisket sandwich. Only heard good things about those sandwiches. Ended the meal with key lime pie and banana pudding served in mason jars. Staff friendly and personable and the high backed booth made it easy to catch up with friends. Definitely recommend.

Google
Great BBQ. Good selection of drinks. The menu is built entirely around bbq, mostly beef and pork. Smoke comes through without overwhelming spice. Plenty of inside seating. Sidewalk and street seating also. The bbq chopped salad is a winner!

Google
Best BBQ I’ve had in a long time. The brisket was GREAT! Service was wonderful too, nice environment as well.

Google
❤️ Chopped bbq salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ - loved the chopped burned ends Smoked chicken salad ⭐⭐✨ - bitter - dry chicken Brisket ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - the thick ones are just ok - a little too salty for me - more fatty than I'm used to, wasn't like the fat was rendered - think I saw it more like fast food style rather than low and slow

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite bbq. Food is awesome and tasty. That said... Beware of the wait if you order takeout or pickup. Whether through a site or over the phone. Arrive 20 minutes AFTER the time your food is meant to be ready. I called today and they said 20 minutes for a salad and some deviled eggs. Showed up 40 minutes later and was told "two minutes more" and the deviled eggs had clearly been sitting out the entire time while the salad got finished. They are runny and melted. The last time I was here, the gal working extended me a $25 gift card because the food was nearly 30 minutes later than I had been told. They're clearly trying to fix this issue. Idk if maybe they're missing some additional help in the kitchen, but either way I think customers would appreciate accurate wait times. Bottom line: eat in the restaurant or show up 30 minutes after they tell you to

Yelp
st. louis cut pork ribs, fried chicken thighs, mac n cheese, slaw and french fries ordered to go. pork ribs were dry rubbed and the meat itself was a bit dry. maybe i should have ordered it mopped? still great flavor though. it's also a bit on the pricey side. fried chicken thighs were ON POINT. so tender and well seasoned. great portion size for a single person. this was the star of the meal. i HIGHLY recommend. it was still crunchy after a 20 min ride home! i wish i had more. sides were as expected in taste and portion. the fries side is way bigger than the other sides by the way. it filled up half a regular square takeout container. overall this is a good QUICK made meal. wish i could try more from the menu!

Yelp
Food is delish, staff are friendly, and vibes are great (we sat outside on the patio in a warm summer evening). For the vegans - the collard greens are the only item that are definitely vegan, the tempeh is nearly vegan but the bbq sauce they're cooked in contains honey (call me a bad vegan), and I took a chance on the fries which the server told us he couldn't confirm were vegan, but said the bag they come in specifically says "contains wheat" on it. All said, I was pleasantly surprised and my fiance loved his meat meal. I know they're not catering to the vegans, but would LOVE to see a solid vegan tempeh sandwich option with vegan Cole slaw or vegan Mac and cheese, even just lettuce and tomato. (As of now, bun isn't vegan).

Yelp
It was Father's Day and it was very busy. We went an hour before we were meeting up with our son and his fiancé and put our name in. We then took a nice walk around the neighborhood. When we came back, our table still wasn't ready and we waited next-door for about 15 minutes longer and enjoyed a beer there. I think our waitresses name was Cynthia and she was fabulous. We started off with the deviled eggs, which were delicious. We had the big house salad, which was also amazing. Then the platter came with the two sides. There were four of us and there was still leftovers. Everything was exceptional except the mac & cheese to me wasn't anything special. I think getting the big meat platter is a great deal . Would definitely come back and would highly recommend if you want some good barbecue.

Yelp
On arrival we were seated immediately and did not have to wait. The place was not very crowded but mostly filled. We ordered a starter , 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees. The coffee was normal. The chicken wings starter was a little sweet for my taste but had the perfect crispness. The fried chicken sandwich was tasty and I had it with a side of some spicy sauces. The beef brisket sandwich was really delicious and would go again just for that.

Yelp
I wanted a quick snack while nearby at a brewery, and I'm so happy I ordered from Reverend's BBQ! The service was quick and the French fries are perfectly crispy with a tasty seasoning. The place was super busy and I can see why! I'll be definitely trying Reverend's BBQ again.

Yelp
Had the chicken sandwich and the Mac & cheese. Above average in taste. Chicken in the sandi was not very big. Dad had a cheeseburger but it was sloppy and a bit rare. Very nice, quick, and diverse staff. Happy hour wings weren't good. Had a strange smoky taste and not particularly crispy.
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
We came for the wings during chicken wing week but stayed for the BBQ and that banana pudding! We ordered the dinner plate with the brisket and fried boneless chicken thigh, polenta and Mac and cheese. The plate is the way to ho. The brisket was tender and super juicy, the seasoning on the fried chicken was unique and the chicken was also very tender. The sides were even 10 out of 10 for me. The polenta, amazing, Mac and cheese so good. The kicker, the Banana pudding! So simple, took me back to my childhood.

Jon F.

Yelp
Had fried chicken breast. You get 3 pieces. Chicken was dry. Also the rub used had a curry flavor. Folks were nice but the meal was disappointing.

Yelp
I wanted this restaurant to be good so bad... I was excited once I finally got it. I ordered it through Uber Eats and it took awhile to get to me. Granted I do live pretty far from the restaurant. I got the rib plate with 4 extra ribs, side of collard greens and baked beans. I then ordered a side of mac&cheese, potatoe salad, deviled eggs, smoked chicken wings, and the banana pudding. Everything lacked flavor all together. It was extremely basic in taste; the ribs were a little too smokey and barely any sauce on it. The sauce had a strange taste to it. It's almost like there was zero sugar in anything. And also barely any salt. The chicken wings were the only item that had some sweetness to it and tasted somewhat good. And the banana pudding was pretty good. The deviled eggs could have been better if they added some sugar and did not put the brisket on top. The brisket was so hard. Now the little relish on the side was the best thing in there. So good, it had that sweetness I was searching for in almost everything. Now I'm not saying an overpowering sugary taste, but sugar is good in a lot of foods to balance out flavor. And also other seasonings. I spent about $75 on this order and I love trying food or trying new food. I have 3 children, so we usually need bigger meals. None of my children were interested in this food and felt the same way. They asked me to re-cook everything with some flavor. By that time I was too tired. Everything did come packaged nicely and warm for the most part. I won't be ordering again.

Yelp
Really glad we were able to sample menu items at Happy Hour prices. Unfortunately our dinner did not leave us happy in the end. The wedge salad was great. BBQ potato chips didn't add enough zing or acid to the creamy mac sauce and is unnecessary IMO. The pork and sauce in the Carolina BBQ clamshell was pretty good but the slaw was too plain. Pickles were nice and sweet but rubbery. The polenta that came with the creamed corn was light and , but the corn was meh. Baked beans were a no for us, texture wise. It wasn't particularly busy during our visit but we had to flag down people for cocktail refills and such. We were able to get a refill after 15 mins (we were seated at the bartop) The rib and pork were ok, but didn't make us want to come back and try it again.

Yelp
Oh my god where to begin! First of all where is the 6th star? The food is PHENOMENAL! I would not care if you get me my favorite or least favorite item on the menu and I'd still be pleased. My point is that for the most part everything here is 27/10. The customer service is pretty chill, I don't really have a problem with it. The vibe is AMAZING. It makes me feel like I'm in the south, well, I've never been to the south, but this is what I imagine southern food to be like! Overall, if you eat meat I recommend this place 100%

Yelp
Cute place in Sellwood for good BBQ! Went for a late lunch and ended up being happy hour! Which was such a fun surprise because the happy hour deals are insane. I got something akin to an open face pulled pork sandwich with so the pickle plate and my partner got the loaded Mac. Our friends got a burger, some ribs, and the open face sandwich. I would go back for sure! Servers seemed a bit disinterested in being there but I get it - still as a guest you don't really want to feel that the staff hate their jobs lol.

Yelp
Drove 20 hours to eat this !!!!! All the way from Los Angeles !!!! The best barbecue that I have ever had in my life !!!! Where ever you are in the country come eat here NOW !!!!

Yelp
I had read several reviews of Reverend's BBQ and was excited about stopping in to place an order to go recently. It's a cute restaurant and I was there between lunch and dinner, so it was relatively slow and quiet when I stopped in. The hostess was friendly and provided me with a menu to look over to place my order. The restaurant was clean and inviting. It had a cute ambiance and a BBQ vibe. When I got home I have to say I was disappointed both with the price, quantity but mostly the quality of the food. My husband and I love BBQ and travel across the US trying out BBQ joints as well cook much of our own. I ordered a rib / chicken combo. It came with three ribs and one piece of fried chicken, a small piece, collard greens and mac-n-cheese side. None of the food had much flavor. In comparison to many other bbq restaurants, I would not go back for either the food or value. Skip it.
google avatar

Chelsea W.

Yelp
Reverend's one of my favorites! My fiancé and I went there a lot when it was still pandemic era takeout style outdoor seating. We're obsessed with the hush puppies, especially the sauce they come with! Once they opened the dining room again, service has been friendly.

Yelp
My wife found this place on Yelp while enjoying our weekend in Portland. I must say, this spot DID NOT disappoint. The bbq was amazing!!! The service was impeccable! Our serve Dave was great! As a southern boy, I absolutely loved his overalls. It reminded me of my paw-paw when I was a boy. The ribs was some of the best I've ever had in the PNW!! The ambiance including the decor was amazing and antique which was so cool. We will definitely be visiting again next time we're in Portland.
google avatar

Yelp
My 2 boys and I were looking for a decent BBQ place to eat during our weekend trip to PDX. Are you kidding me? Matt's was under repair and closed. we were sad. But Reverend's delivered! At first, we were feeling a little uneasy when a group that sat after us was given the menu and water before us. Overall service is very good. The 3 of us ordered the Sampler plate which consisted of all things they had to offer. Short version: best BBQ of our lives Extended version: (overall all the food they had was great) Chicken - I love fried chicken and in 45+ years of my life, I've never had a fried chicken that emitted flavors as I took a bite out of it. Out of this world fantastic. Ribs- not too soft but tender enough and delicious Pork shoulder - I want to say it's their version of pulled pork. very good. not too dry. Brisket - tender, juicy. good enough fat piece and meat balance I don't even like mac and cheese, and their mac n cheese made me want to love all other mac n cheese out there. So good. Slaw was good too I took the advice and not have the food to go. You have to eat it there when it's fresh out of the kitchen. We humbly bow down before you Reverend's BBQ.

Yelp
I travel the works for good barbecue. Growing up in Chicago there were plenty of competition. The great part of the Midwest is the prices are still reasonable. This take out was close to $30. West coast pricing is always higher due to several reasons including the high rent pricing. I can't adjust to it. The staff is nice. The atmosphere is relaxed. The food was decent. The ribs had a strong smoky flavor. You can tell they were cooked with care. Slow and steady. The greens were flavored with some sweetness, I do think it was apple vinegar. They failed on the Mac & Cheese, they put corn flakes on top of it. Never do that again. I'm not sure if I would go back since I thought it was pricey for the amount of food. Give it try and post your review!

Yelp
This is a very interesting place to enjoy bbq pork and fried chicken. We went there for birthdays and we were able to get a family meal for 4. The corn bread side dish was amazing. The salad was delicious. The service was great, we enjoyed the meal and we had lots leftovers for the next day.
google avatar

Adelina D.

Yelp
Great food and good service for the whole family. We had the brisket and pulled pork sandwhich. Our kids enjoyed it as well. The staff seemed a bit rushed, we asked 3 people for ranch before we got some. Otherwise it was a good experience and would be back!

Yelp
Clean, cleverly designed and welcoming atmosphere. The menu provides familiar favorites well executed and options of interest that are easy to say, yes to! Service is friendly and attentive with attention to the kind of details that make you feel both welcome and excited to plan your next visit. For our meal the brisket paired with the Reverend's Ozark sauces were perfect! Thanks and highly recommend

Yelp
Came here on a weekday night during happy hour and it was solid. *VERY* slow service outside. Food was fine for happy hour prices, but I wouldn't pay regular price for their bbq. The outdoor seating area is nice because while it is covered and parts of the sides are blocked, there is still very good air flow, and they have heaters. However, I was basically ignored after I sat down. I could see that they had multiple servers inside who were free, but no one except the host (who I had spoken to about sitting outside) ever acknowledged me. I finally went inside to place my order with the host after waiting for over 15 minutes. I got 3 HH ribs and a smash burger. The ribs were very tender, moist, and had a perfect smoke on them. Not burnt, not too fatty. Cartilage was pretty tender. The dry rub was good. I'm not normally a sauce person but I tried the offerings on the table. The sweet ozark which had a very nice acidity. The Carolina gold was not as good as ones that I've tried at other locations, it was kind of watery. The Spicy Ozark was good, not too spicy, but somehow not as flavorful as the sweet ozark. The smashburger was served on toasted thick cut white bread and came with some tasty pickles. Parking was kind of a headache because the streets in the neighborhood around the restaurant were packed.

Bob S.

Yelp
The food is always superlative. The service attentive but friendly and efficient. The ambiance is perfect. I love the history. All the walls are full of reminders of past years in Portland. I highly recommend the business.
google avatar

Rick W.

Yelp
Pretty dang good Barbecue And super friendly service. The fried chicken is slightly sweet and slightly spicy. For only four bucks you can add a piece of boneless chicken breast or thigh to an entree. Nice! Their collard greens are just vinegary enough. The brisket was nicely done and a tiny bit crisp on the outside. Delicious! The closer for me was their barbecue sauces. One tasted like Macheesmo Mouse's Boss Sauce (for those of you who have been in Portland for more than 20 years.) another was a great mustard based sauce. I was so enthralled with these two I kept alternating between them, saving the third sauce for the next visit. Can't wait to return.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Had the best date night ever at Reverend's bbq! Would recommend it 100% the food was excellent, savory, well cooked and just down right delicious!!! I suggest the Mac n cheese, the ribs and of course that amazing strawberry shortcake!!!! Don't hesitate, go tomorrow!!! I love Reverand's BBQ!!!!!
google avatar

Sabrina H.

Yelp
The place is packed but they made sure we knew they were keeping an eye out for a table. The wait was much less than they said and the seating was awesome! It was loud inside, but in a fun way, and we could still make conversation. The food? All of it was delicious! I washed it down with a good, cool pint, and my boys had everything they wanted. What a great place to stop, especially before heading to Oaks Park for an evening skate!

Yelp
Well unfortunately this was not all I had hoped for for my Fathers Day. First was the online ordering, it was fast and seamless. I was so happy and very excited to pick up my order at 2:15. (ordered at 7:30am) However, stop asking me for a tip online when I have not gotten any service yet. Ugh! Sadly When I got there at 2:15 I was made to wait 16 more minutes for my food. Got home and inspected my meal and it all looked right, except for missing bread. I called to inquire on this, and ask a question about threee sauces. Unfortunately, 25 calls went unanswered as I kept getting a message they were busy and I should try back later. Come on man answer the phone! My order....REVEREND'S BBQ MEAT PLATTER Sides: Mac and cheese bland (tossed), Cole slaw average (kept), BBQ baked beans had absolutle no BBQ flavor and the beans where terrible. Like a fat kidney bean. Is this chili? 2 bites and gone to the trash. Main course, Chicken breast, ribs average. Chopped pork shoulder poor. biggest disappointment was the brisket. It looked amazing and tasted like something I could have got at from a store prepackaged meal. Addtional: My cashier/greeter was very nice and polite. The place looked clean too. Sadly I can not see returning here for a second visit as it was just one disappointment after another. Like everyone else I work hard for my money and sad when it gets wasted on what amounted to low quality food.
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
We needed a cocktail and decided to pop in and get a bite as well. We ordered the brisket combo with Mac and cheese and polenta, the ribs with French fries and beans, house salad, and deviled eggs along with a couple of cocktails. The ribs were savory, the sides were good, the salad was refreshing, the deviled eggs were delish, buttttt the brisket was a bit dry. Service was A+ though! I'd give it a try again.
google avatar

Bexx K.

Yelp
Incredible food! I recommend the chicken. I don't eat red meat but the other people in my party got the brisket and it all looked so amazing. This bbq place knows what they're doing for sure. The servers were quick and friendly and recommended their faves. Great spot for dinner, casual spot.
google avatar

Allison N.

Yelp
Great food, charming ambience! Service was fast and friendly! Definitely try the brisket, and the polenta is a surprisingly wonderful side!
google avatar

Liza S.

Yelp
I'm a big bbq fan, and this wasn't anything noteworthy. Tried 3 different types of meat that were all dry and there were not a lot of side dishes to choose from.

Layne S.

Yelp
I cannot speak to the other foods on the menu, but the BBQ Chopped Salad was terrible. More than boring, the brisket was hard, dry cubes of meat. The salad inadequately dressed.

Nora A.

Yelp
I think my hopes were a little too high for reverends. The service and location were great, but the food and drinks didn't do it for me. I know bbq is a very different for everyone, but the fact that they couldn't add brisket or anything to a salad was a shocker, especially for Portland. Absolutely nothing on the menu could be changed and our drinks were terrible :/ My review might have been different had I not been to Matt's, Botto's and Busters prior to coming here. At least they had a diverse menu, but after my experience here, I don't think we'll be back.
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
Fine place for lunch. I had the boneless chicken thighs which were of a good size, the breading crispy and thin; the meat looked very white and tasted more like breast. mac & cheese creamy and rich. Jeff enjoyed much his brisket sandwich, good sized, bristling with onion crisps, and really loved the polenta. Small but interesting beer selection. Very good service.
google avatar

Rita S.

Yelp
Reverend's is a family friendly bbq restaurant with cornflower blue walls decorated with antlers, a fried chicken sign, a photo of Kenny Rodgers, a crosscut saw, and other miscellaneous pictures. There is a bar with wrap around seating in the middle of the restaurant and tables around the perimeter. There are also televisions to watch games and sporting events. Because it was our first visit, my friends and I decided to order several different items from the menu. My friend had the brisket. It was delicious! Tender, smoky, and flavorful! I had the fried chicken. It was an amazing combination of being both sweet and savory. Another friend ordered the ribs, and said they fell off the bone. Our side dishes of macaroni and cheese, the deviled eggs with brisket, and potato salad were also amazing! Our sever offered recommendations that fulfilled our varied desires and was attentive to our table. We will definitely return the next time we are out in Sellwood!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
The brisket was good and port ribs were average. The macaroni and cheese was good as well. Staff was friendly and service was excellent. It is a great spot to sit down, relax and enjoy friends especially since you don't have to do the cooking. Would I prefer to bbq at home yes. Would I go back? Definitely.

Yelp
I've gone back and forth on Reverends over the years, at times openly giving them cred as one of the best bbq spots in pdx, and I think 5 years or so ago it was warranted. That being said, the food has slipped over time, and the service outside of sitting at the bar has been iffy since the pandemic ended. The drinks have been weak for quite a while, and tonight I ordered a bourbon rocks and it was maybe 1oz of booze, which is pathetic. I gave direct yet polite feedback about this to the manager, who immediately became viscerally offended. He then told me that it's "bad" to complain about pour sizes and that nobody has complained about this in 20 years, which is laughable. I'm done, peace!

Yelp
Great BBQ! I was in the area getting my pup groomed down the street from Reverend's and decided to kill some time and my hangry tummy here. Excellent, friendly service! I love folks that serve good food & an upbeat attitude. The AC was rockin, which I appreciated very much as it was a hot day. I'm 100% Oregonian lifer. Any temps above 83° irritates me. First up was their deviled eggs topped with burnt ends. Money. Creamy, savory, fluffy and fabulous. I also enjoyed their collard greens (I added a little hot sauce because I love vinegar), mac & cheese (nice and creamy), fried chicken (great all spice notes), and brisket (lovely smoke ring). Everything was very tasty and flavorful. What a fantastic food option while in this lovely area! I'll be back! Yum!
google avatar

Felicia R.

Yelp
It's hit or miss. Sometimes the brisket is over cooked. I notice the brisket sandwich and the deviled eggs with brisket are the best way to go for brisket. Flavorful and tender. The fried chicken is absolutely delicious. The batter is well seasoned. The Mac doesn't stand out but the greens are a 7/10 good enough to keep ordering. Hush puppies are a solid 9/10 those babies are gooood.
google avatar

Cyn Q.

Yelp
Smoked chicken salad is amazing!!!! The toppings of smoked feta and pickled cranberries rocketed the salad into the stratosphere. Don't miss the polenta side.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Relatively average BBQ in sellwood with above average pricing. Their wait staff is always a hit or miss--sometimes you get a server that's completely terrible and other time you get a rock star! Pretty inconsistent - i got the brisket which was a super fatty cut--couple of strips with a tiny little cup of coleslaw and another tiny side--for $27-much better options out there folks such as Podnahs or Goldie's in Vancouver - it's worth driving north for much better BBQ - reverends just had a captive audience in south portland
google avatar

Carlee M.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night - this place did not disappoint. The brisket was juicy and flavorful. Pork shoulder was cooked well and had a nice sweet/smokey flavor. Service at the bar was great. The ambience in this place is warm, inviting and fun. Great place to watch NBA games if you sit at the bar. Also our bar tender was rocking a cool shirt with pink flowers. I wish they sold those for my boyfriend!
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
The food tasted good, but the portions were very small for the price. Inside the restaurant was really cold, I wished I'd brought a second jacket. The server was polite and quick. Our food came out way faster than I was expecting. We ate quickly and headed home.

Tamre A.

Yelp
I ordered pick up, the lady at the counter was very nice & very helpful. I ordered the Chicken sandwich, Mac & cheese and deviled eggs. The chicken sandwich: it was really good lightly crispy, good sauce, and very soft bun. Rating (4.5/5) The mac and cheese: it had....I think barbecue chips sprinkled on top which i felt was unnecessary & it was very plain and no cheesy taste at all. Rating (1.5/5) The deviled eggs: it had brisket on top, the brisket was really good it was seasoned and tender but the filling of the deviled egg had absolutely not a lick of seasoning(except paprika but we all know its just for color) i didn't even taste salt...like at all. (2/5) Definitely try the chicken sandwich it's so good! It definitely saved my overall rating!

Yelp
The Reverend is back! How is it the the extremes of Covid could bring back the best salad in the metro area and welcome back great service? I'm grateful--this is my second lunch here after a few terrible experiences 3-4 years ago, and I'm celebrating second chances. Not only is that delicious brisket salad restoring glory days of generous portions and perfectly prepared brisket ends, the friendly, thoughtful service is back--even when it's busy! Personally, I was worried but like most things in rear view mirror, I can see that the worry was unnecessary--The Reverend just needed space and more outdoor seating and a huge plexiglass divider the keep folks safe. My food prayers have been answered!

Yelp
Visiting my son during the record breaking snowstorm. We decided to have lunch. We decided to share our meal so glad we did!!! We ordered deviled eggs with burnt ends sitting on the egg that was sitting in mustard So good reasonably priced enough to share with another person. Very tasty. Quality food. The other good food that we ate was a bbq brisket sandwich. The side we picked were French fries. The meat was melt in your mouth deliciousness. I'm glad we shared because it was so good I would have eaten the whole thing and I would have been stuffed. The fries were made perfect. Not uncooked, not over cooked, and not greasy. Perfectly brown and seasoned and the temperature was great(I hate cold fries). These were freshly made. The service was a 10/10. Great attitudes, happy workers. They came to the table just the right amount as to not interfere our visit. This neighborhood has a gem. Keep up the great work! If you are thinking about coming here or looking for a place to eat. You can not go wrong coming to Reverends BBQ

Yelp
I meant to try this place so many times but I live so far away! I finally did and was so pleased with everything, I'll definitely be back!! Everything we had was full of flavor and not one thing tasted bad or needed anything extra. I wish they added one more slice of brisket instead of just 2 but maybe I'm being greedy lol Highly highly recommend this place. Yum! Oh, and if you like baked beans, GET THEM HERE!!

Yelp
I used to come here all the time before COVID. This is the first time since. I was sad to find out that they no longer do all day happy hour on Monday. That was one of my favorite things about them. I ordered the smoke wings and the fried chicken, which were my favorite things. The smoke wings were good, but a tad too salty. The fried chicken was as good as always. I have tried fried chicken up and down Portland, this is still my favorite. I will have to figure out how to come here between 3-6pm for happy hour now...

Yelp
Ok, so we all know from other reviews that Reverend's BBQ has great BBQ but I was so pleasantly surprised to find that they also have an amazing frozen margarita! As a self-proclaimed frozen margarita aficionado, I know how difficult it is to get the recipe right! Often times frozen margaritas can taste too watered down with not enough tequila and it ends up being a glass of liquid sugar. Well - not at Reverend's BBQ!! The frozen margarita here has just the right amount of alcohol with a nice classic flavor. I believe they have 2 other frozen cocktail options which I will be back again to try. Not to mention the food is great! Overall, highly recommend!
