I visited the ballroom under its new ownership on Saturday, May 10th. I appreciated the updated lighting, which created a lovely ambiance, but I wasn’t a fan of the DJ booth’s new location at the back of the ballroom. It disrupted the flow, making it difficult for guests to set cocktail’s. This space also created an areas for coats, bags and seating for guests to switch from street shoes to ballroom shoes. But now the DJ booth in this area takes away from that.
There were sound issues as well, and an apology was made over the microphone. Unfortunately, this came from one of the musicians rather than a professional onsite sound technician.
To top it all off, the music selection was disappointing. It didn’t capture the authentic salsa party atmosphere that Latin communities expect on a Saturday night, nor did it appeal to non-Latinos eager to embrace Latino culture. Instead, the playlist featured mellow salsa tunes. Not the vibrant peak of a Latin music theme social gathering.
